Well I've been on the receiving and giving end on a rear end collision and I might as well tell both.

On my giving end, I was borrowing my moms car to drive home from school and unfortunately I didn't get enough sleep and dosed off in the freeway (yes I was dumb, and yes I should have gotten more rest before driving my moms car) and rear ended mid sleep an asian dudes car. Fortunately no one was hurt and both cars were driveable but unfortunately both cars were damaged, and our insurance and the police were involved and my mom was rick roaring pissed at me.

On the receiving end I was again borrowing my moms car and this time, I was on my way home after a trip to the mall to get a corndog, Then while going down a step hill a car in front of me takes his sweet time to make a right turn I nearly rear ended him. Keyword being nearly as my brakes saved me just in time to stop yet another at fault accident. But unfortunately for the mother who was texting on her phone and her son sitting next to her, she didn't noticed that I suddenly stopped and rear ended my moms car. Both cars were driveable but after exchanging insurance information my mom and I sued her for the damages to her car and the whiplash I caught and we got $1,500 dollars out of it.

I hit a BMW that was turning left from a stopsign and didn't bother to look.
Much to his misfortune, I was driving a $700 Ford station wagon.

My radiator completely blew; probably with no small part due to how fucking rusty the car was. Airbags thankfully deployed, the car was instantly filled with smoke from the radiator. It happened really suddenly and was pretty scary how fast everything went. We were both fine and I got away with just a small cut on my forehead. Besides that, neither car was driveable.

Luckily he was at fault and I didn't have to pay anything :)

It was my first car and it was a bloody clean and tidy one for the age and small amount I paid for it. I'd barely had it 4 months when I found myself waiting for a gap in traffic at a notoriously busy roundabout. I had just got bored and put my head back against my headrest when an old guy in a Citroen slammed into the back of my car at some speed. Luckily for me I had my handbrake on or I would have been punted right into the busy traffic.

At first the damage didn't look too bad - rear lights smashed and the panel between them was dented inwards. To say it took the brunt of the crash, the bumper was intact but hanging off on one side. Once we'd swapped details and moved out the way, we went our seperate ways. My uncle lived nearby and so he followed me back to his house where we gave my car a better inspection...and found that the whole boot floor was crushed up to the fuel tank and that the rear crossmember had been torn off the chassis at the weld! Add to that buckling of the body shell at the C-Pillar and it added up to a big fat write-off.

My underpants also didn't survive the encounter! ;-)

I was OK but I was checked over anyway - the doctor stated that I was lucky that I'd put my head back or it would have been worse! In the end I got a decent payout from his insurers as he was at fault but it was my first car and a very good one too so I was gutted to lose it!

Last november. Made a bad call when I was driving home from school for the weekend. I knew I was in bad shape, so I'd stopped for a rest at a Tim Horton's about a half hour earlier. A hot chocolate and a twenty minute nap would do me some good. When I got back on the road, I passed out about ten minutes later. Jolted awake when I felt gravel under my tires, over corrected, swerved back into my lane and hit the breaks, spun out and crashed into a hydro pole.

The front of the car was wrecked on the driver's side, I'd hit a power line, so there was a fire and sparks flying all around. It's eleven o'clock at night on an unlit highway, and it's freezing out. Luckily, a road patrol (guys who clean off roadkill or debris) was right behind me, and pulled over to offer help.

Amazingly, I walked away from the whole thing without a scratch. Not that I want to try again.
Wait, did this happen Eastbound 401 between Cambridge and Milton?

No, this was on Highway 7, between Madoc and Peterborough. Where was this crash you're talking about? Somewhere near the Guelph Line?

I forget exactly, cause it was last winter lol. Somewhere in-between Cambridge and Milton :p I just remember seeing the aftermath of a similar crash and the terrible traffic leading up to it. Though come to think of it, I don't think there are actually hydro poles on the 401.

I've never been in a serious crash though I did nearly go off the highway when the hood of the car came unlached an wrapped itself over the roof.

One time however when I was taking the grayhound from Calgary to Vancouver about half way we picked up this girl who had been in a major wreck the night before. She'd been driving home from uni in saskatchewan and she was driving through the mountains with all her stuff in the car and hit a patch of gravel and between that and the ice she lost control of her car. In trying to recover she overcorrected and flipped the car, it rolled six times, her things ended up all over the road and the car was totaled but she managed to walk away with just a broken wrist. She'd had the window down and when the car started to roll she'd grabbed the top of the door and the roof of the car.

My first crash was in charge of a quad bike at the age of four or five, which I got on and promptly rolled. I still have the scars from that particular incident.

I cars, my crashes so far involve scraping somebody in a hospital car park at 4am (having just gone to see my Dad who was in there following a heart attack earlier that very evening), my mind wasn't exactly on the job at that point. On the way home I managed to sail across a frozen junction and down a hill at all of 10mph, all four wheels locked, driving is fun.

Also, putting out a headlight whilst parking next to a wall, oops.

Never been in a crash, but I did get run over if that counts. I was crossing by a corner to get to the bus stop on the other side of the road, and the bus was already there. Looked once and didn't see any cars, so as soon as the other side of the road was clear I stepped out and got knocked on my ass. It was only at about 15mph but it felt like I got dropkicked by a giant. I had no idea what the hell happened at first, there was just this FORCE and then I'm getting up off the pavement. I was lucky though and escaped with bruises and a stiff neck. I think the poor driver was more traumatized about the whole thing.

Can't remember which year it was? around 10 years ago or so? I helped my brother moving in the winter. Used my car a lot since back then I had an estate and he only had a compact car.
We had about 10 cm of new snow that day and the snow ploughing service wasn't thru our area yet.
We loaded my and his car full of stuff then went off to his new destination. Wasn't far, about 8km at best. I was driving in front and he was behind me.
At about ¾ of the way an accident happened in front of me on the snow covered road. So I of course had to hit the brakes, well a fully loaded estate of course won't stop right away under these conditions but since we weren't suicidal we weren't that fast anyway so I in fact came to a hold with quite some clearance to the accident in front of me.
I was basically already talking to myself "disaster avoided" when I checked the rear mirror just to see the last glance of my brother hitting my back?
I had about 2000? of damage he had about 7000? of damage. Additionally the insurance company gave him a little bit of a run for the money?

My second car crash was on a red light about 3 years ago. Very simple: I stopped on a "fresh" red light and the truck driver behind me though since I had pretty new sport car that I would not stop and just run thru... of course he then noticed too late that I was in fact not that much in a hurry.
I had about 9000? of damage he probably just had to replace the lenses of his left lights?

I've never been in a collision yet. I have slid off the road 3 times last winter. Winter in Saskatchewan is bad enough but last year it went from almost melting point to freezing temperatures several times so ice was EVERYWHERE.

Boss wasn't amused. Doesn't matter, I'm not going to be on time if I'm in the ditch. She had to deal with it.
Where the hell did your boss grow up and how come she doesn't know what a Saskatchewan winter entails? Lol

Last winter, I pulled my boss out of the ditch 3 times and he pulled me out once. It's just so common in this province it should be expected.

OT: Deer. Twice. Same exact spot (200 m from my laneway) seperated by 2 years. Once with my truck and fucked up my grill. The next with the parents' truck and the deer ran into the side of the truck. Rocked the truck enough to set off the airbags.

I've never personally crashed a vehicle, but I was in one when I was, oh, say, 8 years old? Maybe a little younger, now that I think of it.

A group of family and friends, going to the zoo. Our friends' van was ahead of us. An older woman wasn't paying attention or somesuch and slammed into us from behind, which sent us crashing into the van in front of us. The car was in pretty terrible shape. My mother was driving and I was in the front, and we both ended up with back issues that persist to this day, but no truly critical injuries at the time for anyone.

Only once and I wasn't the one behind the wheel, wasn't that bad, just reared into a bar and scratched the paint a bit. I've come close but no wreckage cigar.

Since I don't drive, technically, I haven't had any car crashes. However, I have been in many, thanks to the fact that the people I'm related to are horrible drivers. As such, it's hard for me to remember the first one I was in.

I'm never getting a car, and I'm never driving. I work in a parking lot and I see too much shit done at 15 mph that would get me killed on the road when people are going faster.

Plus they cost too fucking much. WAY too fucking much.

The first car crash I was in was actually pretty extreme. I don't have a license, I was just sitting in the car when it happened.

It was rainy on the Autobahn. We were driving on the leftmost line and wanted to change back to the middle one. My driver had overseen a car there, so when she pulled into the middle lane, she suddenly noticed him and got back into the left - but that was way to hard, and by then counteracting it, she completely sent us speeding to the right. While we were in the middle lane, someone hit the back of the car, making us spin (and it was really lucky it hit the back, if we had been half a second slower, it would have been the passenger seat with my legs) - we spun a few times and ended up in the rightmost lane, the one mostly used by trucks. I couldn't tell you how often we spun, I just know it was more than once. When the guy in the middle hit us, be banged our heads pretty hard.
Well, she immediately broke down crying, but I got her to put up the emergency sign while I tried to find the closest kilometer-mark while phoning the emergency services. And elderly couple thankfully stopped to give me a signal vest, since we only had one. I checked on the guys that hit our back in the middle lane, and they seemed fine, the driver just banged is knees a little and had almost no damage on the car itself. Then I had to put the signal sign further away, since my driver had only put it about 5m away from the car.

The car had to be crushed into a little cube that very day, but we got away with just a tap on the head.
It could have been so much worse. Just a little slower and the guys from the middle lane would have hit right where I sat.
And we were very lucky that no trucks were driving on the right side at that moment.

EDIT: I also remember thinking right before we started spinning "you should say something. This could be your last moment." The driver was, at the time, my girlfriend.

I yelled "FUCK SHIT FUCK FUCK FUCK!".
I'm such a romantic.

My first, and so far only, accident was about a month and a have or so ago. I was taking my brother to school for a football game(he's in the band) and one of the cars in front of me fucking died in the middle of the road. Unfortunately it was the afternoon rush hour so the road between our house and the school was super busy. When I finally saw an opening behind a large truck and just as I was taking it someone who was coming off the exit also tried to take it and we ended up hitting each other. The damage to the car I was driving was fairly minimal with only the right headlight being slightly broken and a little bit of damage to the fender. Her car, however, had damage from the driver side door to the rear fender. We went over to the school parking lot since it was close, quiet, and I was heading there anyway and gave each other our information and went about our business.

The only accident i've ever had when I've been driving is when I was waiting to turn right into my student house street and BAM a nurse got her foot stuck and went straight into the back of me at full throttle... Not so bad she admitted it was her fault instantly to the insurance crooks.

...I feel sorry for her more, the car was her boyfriends brand new Audi with only 50mile on the clock and that thing was smashed....engine running funny, mounts failed so it was tilting to one side, in need of a complete new front. My car might have been written off but it took a lot less damage than hers, 10 year old Peugeot trumps 0 year old Audi. At least no one was hurt other than a light bit of whiplash and back ache from a new laser printer going flying into the back of my seat.
