My first was the Commodore 64. Apparently I loved playing Wheel of Fortune, Action Biker and Lemmings. (Fuck yeah, Lemmings).

My first console was a Playstation, which I got for Christmas when I had just turned seven years old(iirc). Played tons and tons of NES/SNES at my friends places before that though.
Was an intresting time since I didn't speak English yet and even my mothers abilities with the language were poor at the time. The game I got with it was a demo disc and I couldn't figure why the games just ended all of sudden. Got Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot soon after and made progress in the games, but I still didn't understand shit.

Over time, a lot thanks to TV as well, it taught me English... which is why I pronounce melee as mee-lee.

My first console that I can remember having is the Dreamcast when I was about 5. That shit was fun. Used to play Hydro Thunder all the time.

The first console I remember would be the NES, though according to my mom I used to play the ever loving crap out of pitfall on the Atari 2600.

I've since owned the SNES, Genesis (with the 32X), Gameboy, Gamegear, PS1, N64, PS2, Gamecube, Original Xbox, Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, PSP and the DS, and at least 300 games between them all.

Yeah I don't have much of a social life. C'est la vie, I guess.

Super Nintendo.

And I was still playing Super Mario World when the PS2 came out!

My first console was the NES,and I bought it with my own hard earned savings money back in 1990 (if I remember correctly..). My first game was of course Super Mario Bros., and I still remember vividly how much me and my mates struggled in beating it.

I don't think I built up much of a collection of games for the NES, as I was quite young back then and my parents weren't exactly thrilled with me buying it in the first place. I can remember conservatists in the media were trying to convince parents that videogames could be dangerous to your health. My poor neighbours were limited to 5 hour gaming a week or something like that, although if they wanted to watch sports all day on TV, that was perfectly fine!

Ultimately though, I remember getting Super Mario Bros. 3 and Batman 2 myself, while over at my mates we played Turtles 2, Nintendo World Cup, Ninja Gaiden (I never could finish the last boss, sooo frustrating!!) Duck Tales and Chip 'n Dale till our fingers bled (the NES controller was not exactly comfortable). After one especially crazy gaming night with basically no sleep, my friend got an epileptic attack during breakfast and flipped the whole table upside down! Scary moment.

The First console I ever owned was the Master System II, donated to us by our Piano Teacher. The first console game I ever played was Alex Kid in Miracle World.

Techinically it was my sisters Gameboy that she gave me, but if you want to talk about actual consoles it was the PS1. I played a ton or Tomb Raider as a kid, although I don't think I got very far in it. I think that is the key reason why I don't enjoy Nintendo franchises as much as most people, my first Nintendo console was the Gamecube years later, and even then I didn't have many more games on it that Sonic and Pokemon stuff.

I guess that would be the Play Station 2 my family and I rented from Blockbuster for two weeks. I got a Jak and Daxter game with it too.

Now THAT is a duo of sentences that kids these days wouldn't get.

It was either travel-sized PS One or one of those controller-things with loads of minigames. I still got that Playstation back at home.

Yeah, but you have got to remember that home computers where sold more or less as consoles back in the 80's in Europe, not that I could say Blunderboy is from Europe (but his user name could be connected to the Russ Abbot show :D).

I do remember, I had the exact same setup back when I was a wee lad ;)

Yeah I was expecting that. :p
I am from the UK.
To me as a child it was purely used for gaming. Even my parents only ever used it for playing on. So I always considered it a console.

My brother and I were (collectively) given an Atari 2600, 27 years ago. I still have it, and it still works. Most of my nostalgia is for the NES, though... I acquired it only a couple of years later.

We are indeed a dying breed.

Well I am sure there are a lot of people who use the PCs for just gaming, doesn't mean you can't do quantum chemistry calculations on it with your own program :p

Quasi-joking aside, I know what you mean.

My first console was the NES, for similar reasons to OP.

We never got an SNES. The only games I've played on it have been through emulation and the Wiiware stuff.

I... think it was a NES, SNES, or Playstation. I can't remember for the life of me.

I do remember finding a really old Oddysey in our cupboard that was there for some weird reason. I thought it was a toaster.
