I got into the whole concert thing fairly late, and by late I mean last night. I went to Bullet for My Valentine's Fever Tour at Thebarton Theatre in Adelaide, and let me just say that it was amazing.
So, fellow 'pists. Tell me: what was your first concert experience like? Who played? Did you enjoy it? Or did it turn you off of going to concerts ever again?
The first supporting band to play were the Cancer Bats, who I looked up before the concert and really got into. The mosh didn't really start then, as most people were like "Who the hell are these guys? Are they good?" However, by the end of their setlist, and with some great songs like Hail Destroyer and Lucifer's Rocking Chair, they really got the crowd going, as well as an epic cover of the Beastie Boys' Sabotage. That, and I got to touch Liam Cormier's hair, which made my night. ^.^
Just in time, unfortunately, for Bring Me the Horizon. This isn't an attack on anyone who likes them, but I personally cannot stand them. To me, they all sound exactly the same. Some of their songs have really great and promising intros, before devolving into shredding for the hell of it. They have no song structure. Their riffs do not lead anywhere. However, if anyone thinks otherwise, I'd gladly have them show me. I'd much rather like a band then dislike it. By the end of BMTH my left ear had turned itself off due to being right underneath the left speakers. For all that I'll say about BMTH's music, I will compliment on their interaction with the crowd.
And then, on came the main act, Bullet for My Valentine, to loud cheers and chants of "Bullet! Bullet! Bullet!". I don't care what anyone thinks of them, they put on a great live show, with the entire crowd singing along to every one of their songs. Unfortunately at this time, I had to leave the mosh. Due to the massive surge towards the stage, creating a lack of oxygen to breathe, my girlfriend was about to pass out. And, I got elbowed in the face and got a blood nose. Not like that bothered me. We watched the rest of the show from the back of the mosh, and it was still epic.
All three bands were amazingly good at interacting with the crowd, and all had such great energy on stage.
According to my friends, the mosh was oddly brutal that night. And even it didn't turn me off. I had the best time of my life, and would gladly do it again.
