A while ago now I remember someone talking about analog sticks and how we ever gamed before them and it got me thinking, now I'm just old enough to have played games on the older gen consoles, Sega Saturn, Megadrive things like that and I spent a large amount of my time playing them and destroying my thumbs now when the PS1 came out a game called Ape Escape was released, the first game to use the dual shock controller I remember sitting there trying to play this game and being very bad at it.

I was extremly confused by how analog sticks function and it took me around 3 days of constant playing to get good at it by around the mid point of the game I was shocked by how easy the sticks were to use and how they were so much more fluid than the buttons.

So, my first game that used analog sticks was Ape Escape and I had great fun playing that game. What was the first game that you used analog sticks with?

I remember the first game I ever played using an analog stick was that Star Wars Podracing game for the N64. It was such a new and exciting experience as all my prior game history up to that point had been on the SNES.

Probably Metal Gear Solid on PS1. It was the first game I remember using the Dual Shock, back when analog sticks and rumble features were first introduced.

First game I played was probably Mario 64.

But when I first read the title, all I could really think was Ape Escape. That damned Hoola Hoop, and crazy net.

...this is kind of embarassing.

Tekken 5 for the PS2. I, uh, swore to PCs for the longest time.

That is easy as the first time I even touched a console was when I got a Nintendo 64 with Mario Party, before that my entire gaming history had been in Arcades in which I spent all the all seven days of the week, I still have no Idea on how did I always have change but according to my brothers I used to steal it, but even then ¿did I really stole that much change? well I guess I'll never know

Halo: Combat Evolved. Nothing is quite like sitting there with the controller, knowing in your hands is control over the most powerful killing machine you've seen.

Actually...I believe I also played Ape Escape with the analog sticks before anything else. Those were some wonky controls, but I enjoyed it.

Dual analogue sticks or an analogue stick?

The first game I played with a Dual Analogue control pad would be something on the PS1, lets say Syphon Filter for the sake of argument.

However, the first game I played using an analogue joystick was probably FA/18 Interceptor on my Amiga... I remember back in the day there was a big distinction between analogue and micro-switch joysticks. Analogue joysticks were generally considered to be far superior, but were a lot more expensive. I had to save up and combine a Christmas present to get my first analogue joystick, a Gravis if I recall correctly.
