In the arcade, it was either Tetris, or an old table top shooter (like 1942 or Raiden) that was at a pizza place I frequented as a kid.

On console, I can't remember if it was Ninja Turtles or Super Mario Bros for NES.

The first games I ever played where Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt and the first game I actually owned (aside from some educational shareware crap on floppy disks) has to be Pokémon Yellow for my tenth birthday.

Damn, I feel old!

My was Manic Minder for the Spectrum! I'm sure most of you have never heard of this machine, it had a beastly 48 kb of memory - madness!

Sonic 1 for the Megadrive (or Genesis, whatever). It could also have been Commander Keen 4 for DOS, not completely sure.

You were this little 2D miner guy, and you had to get crystals. It's been over 10 years since I played it last, so details are foggy ._.

Oh yeah, must be Crystal Caves by Apogee Software.
One of their countless 2D shareware platformers with acid 16-color graphics.

ooh ooh good thread! The original Sonic the Hedgehog on the Megadrive. I cried at the end boss so my brother had to do it for me (i was quite young at the time).
