I never got past the last level of Supermario, atleast i think is was the last level, you had to jump between som pillars and if you failed you fell into some lava and died.
I didn't have my own Nintendo at the time and beeing the younger friend of the friends of my friend, who owned a Nintendo, it was rearly my turn to play.

In Lufia II there is a mountain with the most horrid puzzle in it. Every step you take in the rooms causes plants to grow. The plants can be cut with your sword or burned with fire arrows. You need to remove all the plants in the room to go to the next room. Just because a plant is cut/burned doesn't mean it won't grow back. There is a set schedule that the plants grow. You NEED to change directions by holding the R button and then turning, otherwise you will count as taking a step, and it will grow again.

Figured it out by pulling my hair out, and then figuring out the pattern of growth. Then I plotted every move I would make on paper.

All and all, way too much work for a simple rpg puzzle, especially one not in an optional dungeon.

The first Really Big challenge was getting Strike Commander CD to play on my brand-new Pentium 90. I ended up on the phone with Sierra tech support, and some kind man walked me through making a boot disk. Bless his heart.
If he'd told me about the full-size PDF manuals on the CD, and what Acrobat was, he might have saved even more trouble.

trying to get pong in color. J/K. Yes, I did technically own a pong console. Other than that, getting games to load on a Vic 20 tape drive.

Strike Commander!? That was a fun game. Best cover for a game at the time and I like the mercenary missions and the fact that the IRS was the only surviving part of the US government left. As an adult, I can appreciate the hatred of the IRS.

Mario Bros 1 for the NES...couldn't get past the Hammer Brothers near the end. Eventually I got frustrated and just sprinted through them and happened to luck out with the timing.

IIRC Mario Bros. was my very first dosage of gaming, but as for challenges Super Mario Land (Gameboy) is the one I actually got first and played long enough to come against the more challenging worlds, Easton Kingdom and beyond. I would still consider World 4-2's tunnel of evil one of the most challenging levels ever put in a Mario game, harder than anything in the 3D games. Given that I was 5 years old, I 'solved' this by having the biggest gaming-related breakdown I've ever had... and then went and beat it a few days later.

Nowadays they both seem so simple, especially Tatanga, but for anyone who's played both, which of those would you consider the more difficult game- Mario Bros. or Mario Land? Close call for me, but Land has a far more challenging 2nd Quest than Bros.

Learning to aim in Scorched Earth. I got pretty good that I could reliably get a direct hit on my 2nd shot.

The first boss in mario 64, kept throwing him off the edge for hours until I accidently threw him next to me.

Banjo-Tooie, After a couple of worlds I could no longer complete Jiggy-Wiggy's puzzles in time to unlock the worlds, so I used cheats, never could figure out how to beat the boss Welder.

I had the exact same issue. I thought that you had to throw him off and the way I found out was when I accidently pressed the throw button early and then realized "Hey, that sounded good when he hit the ground."
