Mine was a Nintendo 64 when I was about 3, which I played with my dad. I loved that console. Then it just up and died on me. After that it was a Game Boy Colour. I lent it to my friend and he bloody lost it, along with all of my games.
So, Escapists, I ask you; what was your first console/gaming device of any kind?
Holy crap, that makes me feel old.
I had the Atari 5200. Yes, I know the 2600 is the one everybody likes (at least, the people old enough to know of it,) but I didn't have that. I had the 5200. The biggest complaint on the system is the massive controllers. I honestly had no problems with it. I've seen plenty of people try to play with it and massively fail, but I thought it was perfectly fine. Speaking of the 5200...my favorite game on it was Galaxians. I found an internal cheat with the game too. To start a new game, you just push one of the buttons. Any of the buttons...but...if you push Pause to start a new game, the enemies don't shoot at you. First time I did it, I thought I broke the game somehow.
To any people that grew up on the newer systems (N64/PS1 and beyond,) please go play some old school games. It'll make you appreciate more the graphics and such you have now. That, and a lot of the games last longer than the prettier ones that are made presently. Seriously. Stop reading this and go play. NOW.
