I remember my mom told me I could only get a GBC if I had enough money to buy it myself, which was basically a "no" seeing as I was 9 and penniless. Then, three days later, I won a radio contest for $100. I have never since seen my dad laugh so loud. Retrospectively, I guess that's when I learned about irony.

The first system I REALLY started playing on was PC. And first real console for me was and still is my beloved Dreamcast, this console should not have ended the way it did *cry*.

If you're including PCs, then I got one of those when I was 8, back in 1988. It was awesome. Somewhat technically inferior by today's standards (512KB of RAM, no video card obviously, no hard drive, 16 colour display or four colour if you ran it at a resolution high enough for anything to actually look like something). But man I had fun. Hero's Quest, Space Quest, King's Quest, Zak McKracken, weird budget games that were terrible but made me so happy. Prince of Persia! Brilliant.

My first console was a Sega Genesis that my dad ended up stealing from me and pawning. My first handheld was a Indigo Gameboy Color that I had from the age 5 to 12. Then it got ran over after I gave it to my sister after I got a Gameboy Advance.

That damn thing survived being rained on, dropped, stepped on, drowned, smacked and getting lost in the woods, and it gets taken out by a semi.

An NES back when I was about 5 or 6. I'm pretty sure the SNES was around then (96 or 97), but that doesn't matter. The point is, me and my friends poured hours into Super Mario Bros 3, and every so often I wish I still had it, just for that game (Tetris and Dr. Mario pissed me off with little of the enjoyment found in SMB3).
