Red! Although I then started with Squirtle, whilst my brother got blue and picked Charmander.
(then Silver - Cyndaquil
Diamond - Piplup
Platinum - Turtwig
Soul Silver - Cyndaquil again)

And one of my housemates has pre-ordered me white, and paid for it. Apparently that cancels out the money he owes me, despite the fact I didn't ask for it. I guess he wanted someone to trade with. OK, come on Oshawott!

Red. Anyone remember that trick you were supposed to do to get Mew? Yeah right. My friends keep telling me how to do it but as it turn out you couldn't get Mew...

I've owned, in order,

Blue, Yellow, Gold, Crystal, Ruby, Leaf Green, Emerald, Diamond, Platinum, Blue (again, it was that good) and Heart Gold on handhelds.

As well as Stadium, Snap, Colosseum, XD: Gale of Darkness and Battle Revolution on the home consoles.

I always have, and still do, enjoy the pokemon series :)

It is possible, through an odd series of actions you have to perform :p

Pokémon Red! ^_^

I remember being in complete awe of Pokémon red, and the Charizard on the cover. I kept him too, and played the hell out of him. He was way farther ahead then any of my other Pokémon.

He was my ace in the hole. I was never very good at equal Pokémon leveling. XD

Yellow. How I loved that talking mouse. Followed that with Blue, Gold and Crystal. Tried Sapphire and Pearl, hated both of them and played HG merely for nostalgia's sake.

Yeah you can tell I'm a first/second gen Pokemon guy.

I got really hardcore in HeartGold and Platinum getting really good teams on those. the rest are just innocent children.
I got really deep into training awhile back on my Diamond. A friend with permission, hijacked another friend's Diamond, and started training a team to face me. We agreed that we would train them to level 75. Well, I ended up getting a little carried away. Before he had the time to get his up to 75, I had 14 up to 75:

Absol
Arcanine
Camerupt
Garchomp
Gyarados
Luxray
Mamoswine
Ninetales
Poliwrath
Salamence
Scizor
Staraptor
Starmie
Torterra

The honorable mentions for being close to 75 during that time are:

Abomasnow
Dusknoir
Gengar
Golem
Pidgeot
Tyranitar
Victreebel

The sad thing is that me and my friend never ended up fighting. He said he ended up not having the time, though I think he was just scared.

I got Pokemon Blue, and ended up using Blastoise because I thought that if you had Blue version you HAD to use the water type...

I started with Blue and adored my Squirtle! Gold was a headf*ck but I managed.
What was wrong with Gold? Was it too big or something? I personally like the Gold and Silver and their remake counterparts the most because there is so much to do compared to the other games.

I finally beat the second go-round with the Elite Four in Heart Gold with my team that consists of:

Typhlosion
Golduck
Butterfree
Exeggutor
Noctowl
Dragonite

They are around levels 65 and 66 at the moment, I need to do some level grinding to get them up to the needed level for the final battle with Red.
If you manage your potions and revives correctly you could do it right now. I managed to beat him when only 2 of my pokémon were above sixty and the rest between 50-57

My first game was Gold, then it was red, Saphire, Diamond, Platinum and then finally HeartGold.

I had Blue, and got every Pokemon except Electabuzz because my friend with Red couldn't be bothered to catch one.

I ended up getting Mew from a young and not so bright cousin. At the time I had Red, Blue, and Yellow. Apparently my cousin got a Mew from a friend at his school. I didn't know this, until one day I was taking to him about how I had 150 of the pokemon, and I told him since I had all three versions, I had triplets of some of them like the legendary birds. Well, he was begging me to give him an Articuno. He had barely played his version of the game, and I told him that he should actually play the game instead of whining that he didn't have any of them he wanted.

(He hadn't even gotten to the first gym.)

I caved and told him I would trade one of my Articuno, but I remarked that he really wouldn't have anything I wanted. Then he said he would trade me his Mew. I didn't believe him until he showed it to me. The I said of course, who needs three Articuno anyway? I got Mew and completed one of my games, while my cousin complained because he was mad that the Articuno wouldn't listen and follow commands. I told him that he had to play the game to get more badges so that high level and traded pokemon would listen to him, that he wouldn't be able to use it till then. Then he told me that that was dumb and stopped playing his game for good.

That is why I always pointed out that pokemon games are too complicated for the average young person. My cousin at the time was 8. He always said that he was always lost and got mad when I told him to pay attention and read to find out where he was going.

It's no like it was maze of a game, it was practically a straight line that made a few turns until the end.
