Just now I got to Sector 7 on hard with the Simo-H, had just finished tooling up my beautiful 'stealth' cruiser (yeah, thanks for the no cloaking guys) with two ion blast mk.2s but had only a few points of hull left. I'm whaling away at this slug cruiser and we're both on death's door when he offers a truly crap surrender proposal (he has two hull bars at this point, I have three). His shields are ioned up the wazoo so I refuse and wait for my mini-beam to get lined up. Suddenly my ions go on the worst missing streak in the world, so much so that the jammy git's shields go back up to full (four bubbles) long enough for me to eat two artemis missiles and explode in a blast of decompressing air and deflated dreams :(

I got the super secret crew member and was on my way to the super secret location to get the super secret ship.

Then I noticed that the super secret crew member had some kind of super secret ability.

So I used it.

And ended up locking my super secret crew member in a room with no oxygen.
Ive done that two, not knowing what it did. Locked my self in a room with two enemies

I also had a run where I revived 3 secret crew members but couldn't get lucky with the location. After playing for a year I still haven't unlocked the ship

Is that the one that starts with 1 engi and no sensors?

My friend and I call that "the national lampoon's ship"

cause it just seems like one guy on a road trip

I got boarded two times in a row and they wrecked my ship and killed three of my crew members so I decided that I'd just upgrade my doors and vent all the rooms I wasn't using to space so any boarders would hopefully suffocate.

I got boarded three more times and it worked nearly flawlessly. I made it out of the system and picked up another couple of crew members and was thinking of closing the airlocks when...when I met an encounter with a ship that took out my oxygen and door controls with its first volley and ended with two nearly dead crew members, stuck in the oxygen room, in a ship mostly open to the vacuum of space, and the parts that actually had oxygen, burning brightly.

I think that was one of the worst ending for my crew. Stuck in a room, badly burned from fighting fires, and nothing they could do about anything.

I love boarding crews so of course I've had some 'accidents' with them not up to but including:

Teleporting them into a room that I had set a breach bomb to auto-attack.

Having them destroy a enemy subsystem, on a ship with one hull point remaining.

Have a ship jump away, with my boarding party (which at that point was my entire crew) inside.

Have the end-boss jump away with my boarding party inside.

That said, I have also found out that with level 2 teleporters you can beam a mantis duo onto a drone-ship and beam them out with a tiny sliver of health if you time it carefully.

Jump into a solar flare, get boarded by intruders and fire all over the ship. No problem, I vent the air to smother the flames and kill the intruders inside the med bay. Jump.

Engage enemy ship after next jump and die to asphyxiation. How? I forgot to close the doors after the fires were smothered. The maddening part is this happens much too frequently.

First time playing [yesterday]

First sector right a warm up area
Second unfriendly sector, second node a bomber... erp okay don't try to attack a bomber in the begin of the game. And running away of course not, after all my drive was down, then bombarded..

Still yes enjoyable. yes you will die. It is all part of the game next time you know NOT to attack a bomber.

Started a game with the Zoltan Cruiser, the very first jump led me to an event where my ship was boarded by pirates. Two of my crew died pretty much instantly, my pilot only managed to survive by barricading himself in the medbay and venting the oxygen from every other room in the ship.

I managed to survive five more jumps after that (mostly by running from fights as soon as the engines were charged), but there's only so much you can achieve with a solitary crew member, especially one who has to keep running backwards and forwards between various systems to power them up.

I accidentally turned down the Oxygen.

Battle comes.
I'm low on O.
Enemy ship destroys O.
Enemy ship destroys doors.

Everyone dies.
That reminds me of a costly lesson I learned, namely, "If a plasma storm depowers your oxygen system, don't assume it'll power back up once you're out of there. In fact, reroute power to it immediately, you fool."
That happened to me... I lost my Zoltan crew member and my preferred pilot before I figured it out.

I still got to the rebel flagship, but I got totaled.

Just for funzies I decided to try the Vortex, the Type B Engi ship. It starts with only one crew and in the first sector I ran into a slaver demanding I send over a crew member. Just to see what would happened, I picked the "draw straws and send a crew member over" option. I mean he didn't die, I imagine, but it was still a game over.

Another time I made some really shitty jump decisions and had a bit of an unlucky sector generation and could not outrun the rebel fleet, I had to fight to escape from the rebels every jump for 7 beacons. I finally beat my way out with 3 hull left, feeling the world's biggest badass, and get to the event where you have the option to search an asteroid field. Somehow I misclicked on the option to search the asteroid field and got the bad outcome, ie, 5 points of hull damage. And then died. And then didn't play FTL for two weeks.

fuck hull missiles, fuck them, fuck them, fuck them, fuck them, fuck them, fuck them, fuck them, fuck them, fuck them, fuck them, fuck them, fuck them

the most fucking annoying weapon an enemy ship can have, it ignores shields, it deals tons of damage to the crew and the hull and it can even cause a breach

I can just imagine the engi sitting there, drawing straws with his anti-personal drone and a system repair.

Oh god, that is a scary picture. I could not run for the bug spray fast enough or, failing that, a lighter and a can of hair spray. Now I know what I'll picture when one of my crew gets killed by giant space spiders.

I know that feeling, but I've recently found a great use for them. I focus on beams and lasers most of the time, but I'll pick up two hull missile launchers and a defense scrambler along the way if I get lucky. Equip that stuff and use some defense drones and the end boss won't know what hit it. Serves that stupid flag ship right.

My first fail was watching Commander Shepard die to say the Normandy.

I know what that sounds like so let me explain:

Get FTL, download it, play it. Worst I heard was that "random events rule the game" Took the Kestrel, renamed the Normandy, named the Pilot Joker. Weapons was Ash. Engines were Shepard.

Played on Normal because "I've played these games before, Can't do it on easy."

Got to the third system, pirate boarders. They appear in the engine room. Shepard tries to fight them off, and she dies.

RAGE QUIT! Restart on Easy

GIT GUD CASUL!

FTL, is a game where each death you learn a little more, i suggest the next time you face a similar situation, you vent the air out of every single room on the ship, except the med bay, turn the med bay on and place your crew there, the enemy will be forced to fight you in the med bay, where you can heal while you fight

Oh god... there are so many of those stories ( I just recently beat the Boss the first time - i refuse to play on "easy"- after 50 hours of gameplay)

Let's see: Like the OP having a blast with my juiced up enter-crew (Mind-Control, Boarding Drone, 2 Trained Mantis-Crew), just efficiently murdering the crew left and right, keeping their shield and weapons down - when i heard people dying i didn't kill -> looking back to my ship: Forgot to turn O2 back on, after jumping from the last point, turned it off for a bit more juice... ARGS.

Third stage of the Boss: going from like 25 HP down to zero, while the Boss has just 3 HP left. Everything burning, me just screaming at the monitor: "GET THE DAMN WEAPONS ONLINE... just need ONE SHOT - TESLA, get your ass into the Weapons bay, i don't care about the flames and the breaches."

Or after a particular cakewalk you sometimes just meet the ONE build of ship which will just seriously MURDER YOU, and does exactly the right thing. Like jumping to a auto-rigger with some laser drones and neutron star in the back which will ionize your drive and shield, when you are specced out for boarding.

Or the time when my Door-Control was destroyed and had a massively-breached vacuum-filled void in my back and a raging inferno in the front and all three crew-members holed up in the med-bay (vaccum) with less than 5 HP.
