I tend to buy alot of games on XBLA aswell so that may be the reason for my lack of games on the shelf. I probably buy them because my mums paying for it, I get it instantly (well near instant with my internet ¬_¬) AND I don't have to walk to town to buy it. :D

Yes, your habit of trading in games bothers me.

I stopped trading in games a while ago. I'd rather have my old copy of Okami than 5 dollars, thanks.
This, I once took in 20 PS2 games and got £15 for them in total, and that was when PS2 games were all the rage or whatever...I've never traded in since.
that wouldn't at game or gamestation or something would it? they rip people off incredibly. playtrade at play.com is pretty good, i actually managed to sell a year old copy of oblivion for £23 and various other games for equally decent prices.

although i will never trade in my favourite games; Shadow of the Colossus, Ico, Tekken 2, Oblivion (game of the Year edition), Bioshock and Okami because i love thme too much.

I've gradually started keeping the games I buy, to the point where I now have a game collection which is a foot taller than me when stacked.

I only trade in games that I never ever play.
I let the others sit on the shelf, waiting for the day when I finally decide to play them again.

Yer because I'm an achievement whore I don't like to keep the games that I have all 1000 points on or will never be able to get those achievements.

I was really talking about 3rd Gen games and how people don't seem to keep them for as long as they used to :/

It's not just games for me - it's movies, old magazines, and especially books (I take after my dad - our collection of books we've amassed over the years would put most libraries to shame). It's just that everything has some emotional value for me and it just doesn't feel right to trade it away. About the only exceptions are games that I just know I will never, ever play again - and then I prefer to give them away than trade'em in.

Now it's even easier - I just don't have as much time for gaming as I used to, so I get a new game every 3 months at the very least and it takes me a looooong time to finish one. And then, I like to go back to my old games every now and then (I don't think there's been a single month in the past decade when I didn't play "Baldur's Gate" for at least a weekend).

I've only ever traded in 3 games that i can think of: Two Worlds, Too Human and Bomberman Act Zero *shudder*

It takes a special kind of crapness to make me trade in a game, but those three all fell into that category.

I've kept all my old games, going as far back as the PS1 (yeah, i know it's not that impressive, but it was my first console, and i got it when it was as expensive as a modern day next gen one :p and it STILL WORKS)
The crazy thing is I actually still play them. I mean games like Abe's Oddysee, the original Rayman and Worms just can't be reproduced by today's modern game producers, because they've got to be more complex in terms of graphics and gameplay. When you peel that away and just play a 2D simple game, you can still have loads of fun, sometimes more :)

i never trade in games, as what i normally get back is not worth it. although my game collection is small (about 50), i have a ton of PC games living on the city limits of perfection.

PERFECTION CITY:

Population: Heroes of Might and Magic 3, 4 and 5.

I keep EVERY game I own, no matter how much I hated it.

So, yes, that does bother me.

And call me crazy, but this is also the reason I don't like Steam or buying song's on the internet... Everything you buy doesn't even have a possible re-sale value...
You're crazy...

But in all honesty, the only time I buy games on steam is if i know they're going to rock (orange box) or they've come so far down in price I won't feel cheated if they suck (mirror's edge... and orange box).

Though there obviously is no inherent resale value to downloaded content... there is a nice built in back up element to them.

If i get sick of a game and wipe it from my hard drive, i don't have to go searching for a scratched, unusable disk under my couch every time i want to play the game again, i can just download the thing.

Also, automated patching is a evolutionary step towards Godhood.

I keep the ones that might play again or are so good that I just can't let them go. I've traded in the rest.

I only ever trade in games i don't enjoy. If i beat it and enjoyed it it still doesn't get traded in. I buy a lot of cheap used games cause there is NOTHING better to do in the wilderness that is my college, so i run into games that suck once in a while.

cept i cant trade in Dead Rising (really hated it, the whole 72 hours thing was an awful idea) cause every shop has 20 copies and doesn't want anymore...
