So I should probably wait for june to post anything but damnit there are allot of games out right now so figured I'd ask. Biggest reason I'm asking though is Nier Automata is amazing and you should play it if you haven't already.

Easily my pick for game of the year, so what are yours?

Most likely Nioh followed closely by Resident Evil 7. I agree Nier Automata is really good as well. The game has heartfelt themes that it communicates very well and I love it's mash up of different genres but for some reason I was never as 'immersed' as I was with Nioh and RE7. Those games I literally couldn't put down. I also really enjoyed Horizon as well. Anyways the first few months was off to a particularly strong start. :p

Yeah, NieR: Automata was amazing and currently holds that title for me so far.

Persona 5 is currently showing me what its got, and I'm looking forward to see what it has to offer. The other major competitors I imagine will be Nioh (which I intend to play at later) and Ace Combat 7, which has a lot to make up for considering the last two shitshows.

Haven't tried Nier yet but am really liking Horizon: ZD even though it's currently on hiatus while I clear some backlog. The gameplay is so smooth, the machine fights haven't gotten old yet, and the world is fun to explore. Story is typical for open world gaminess but it's competent. Strong contender for what little I play anymore, especially if the new God of War doesn't release this year.

Resident Evil 7 blew my socks off and surpassed my expectations. Brilliant horror game and quite the triumphant return for a franchise near and dear to my heart. That shit's the clear winner so far for me.

Well, if we're talking games I PLAYED this year, I think I'd nominate Bloodborne, with Nioh close behind. Still, I haven't purchased Persona 5, yet, and that's probably a contender. Opinions of it have sounded pretty positive, and I loved Persona 4.

I'm also eyeing Breath of the Wild, but I don't have a Switch and with my current backlog, I can easily wait until Nintendo fixes the console's numerous problems, if they do. Maybe that'll end up being my personal GOTY for 2018.

I don't even remember what's come OUT this year so far.

How about Long War 2? Does that count? I dumped like 200 hours into it.

I would have to go with Nioh

I freaking love learning folklore from other countries, and Japan is no exception. A excellent combat system, based on the real historical figure, also including monsters from the legends, and an amazing soundtrack to top it all off.

Truly worthy of 10/10

Been a really good year so far so many good games and I dont have enough time to play them.

Nioh takes it for me absolutely could not put it down story was terrible but the gameplay and theme was great. Its going to be hard to have any game overtake it as my game of the year Nier is great but its unlikely to do it.

Persona 5 may if I get chance to play it this year (and it somehow even better than 4). Still need to play Zelda, Horizon and Shantae then there are games like Tekken 7 coming out damn its gonna be a good year for games.

Ive barely played anything this year, but Ghost Recon Wildlands. Yay yah, the Zero Punctuation review was brutal, but I think Yahtzee is both burned out on sand boxes and didn't play co-op.

I love it to if not no end, at least a far off end.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Nier, holy shit, I just beat it, fucken awesome game. The difficulty curve is a bit wonky. Gets a bit easy but really good and heavy story and likable characters. Plus a ton of replay, I think this is one I'll be 100%ing.

After a short look at na release list for this year it seems as if the only new complete game I played this year was Torment: Tides of NumaNuma and no just NO.
It seems as if I need to play another new game until the end of the year. Or yet better 10. Just to make sure that it doesn't appear in my end of the year Top 10.

Nioh is a personal favorite of mine this year, hits a good balance of dark souls and bloodborne with its own twist, horizon is not far behind, and persona might be a contender don't have much experience with the series but 5 is just leaking style from the two hours I've played so far. BOTW has too many small annoyances to be top but will almost assuredly end up in my personal top 10 for the year unless all the fall releases turn out phenomenal.

All in all it's been a really good start of the year.

A few weeks ago I would've said Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but my enthusiasm for it has kind of dried up. I've explored most of the world, and with the characters and story being rather shit there's little for me to care about anymore. Still a fantastic game, just not one that lingers in my mind beyond the initial razzle dazzle of the open-world exploration.

Horizon: Zero Dawn was great, but just as with BotW, its stellar gameplay mechanics only go so far without an engaging story and characters.

I'm currently making my way through Yakuza 0 and Persona 5, the former of which is presenting me with some quality, over-the-top crime drama madness, and the latter showing a lot of promise.

Despite the fact that I have bought Resident Evil 7 and drunkenly ordered Nier: Automata at the weekend, the only game that I have actually played that was released this year is, unsurprisingly, Horizon: Zero Dawn. I still love it, I wish I had more time to play it, yes, the shine has worn off a bit. But having had epic fights with some of the bigger machines recently, have kept my interest. I might not actually play anything else this year. Though I seem to be adding to my backlog. This is not good:)

I wish I could say Nier: Automata. :(
The game is definitely sitting in my steam wishlist, but it's going to be a loooooong time before I can buy that one. (Medical expenses really put a damper on things.) From what I've seen though, it's everything I want from a gameplay and aesthetic perspective, especially since character action games come around once in a blue moon. Hearing that it's got a story dealing with themes of existentialism is just the icing on the cake.

...

My personal game of the year so far: Hollow Knight [http://store.steampowered.com/app/367520/]
An absolutely beautiful metroidvania 2D side-scroller! With a somber atmosphere, those rays of hope seem all the more brighter. While the story is told in a cryptic fashion with snippets of dialogue hinting at various events from an NPC's limited perspective, there's enough environmental storytelling going on for those interested in the lore. The combat is fast, with a focus on precision, so there's incentive for those that like a challenge. From an artistic standpoint, the game is very charming with a melancholic soundtrack.
There are tons of secrets to find and it's nice to feel properly rewarded for exploration. Plus it's decently priced for an indie game that can easily go 30+ hours for the completionists.
