I was a young child when I had a Gamecube. It had a modest collection of 20 games to go along with it, including some worthy titles like Metroid Prime, Super Mario Sunshine, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and Super Smash Bros. Melee. When I heard news of new game systems coming out, I decided to trade in my old collection of games to get the money for a new system....at Gamestop. Yeah....you can see where I am going at with this, right? Basically: Had awesome games, traded them in at Gamestop, got a crappy return value and I am kicking myself over it ever since.

So Escapists, what gaming regrets do you have?

Started playing a MMO (Scarlet Blade), liked it, decided to actually pay for stuff, then got to the point where the game changes completely from "enjoyable journey into a new place" where everything is new and you journey through new locales fighting new enemies to "grind-tastic" where it's the same daily missions in a PVP and PVE location with no level limit, so you have people freshly arrived attacked by max level players. Yeah, the fun died right there for me and I regretted spending money on the game.

Let my childhood friend hold the controller on the Banjo Kazooie main menu and ended up deleting my save set right before the final boss. My descendents will beat that game in my stead.

Regrets monetary-wise, just about any movie-based game I can think of.

I regret playing Skyrim before Oblivion. I would have probably liked it if I hadn't just come off of Skyrim.
Actually, nearly 2 years on from Skyrim and I can't play Oblivion yet. I dunno.

Weird as this sounds, buying almost any modern day AAA title at launch.

Because right now we live in a world where it seems like the vast majority of big titles

A. will get DLC at some point and
B. will get some sort of special edition that usually costs less AND comes with all the DLC attached.

Like I bought Saints Row 3 at launch, now we have the Full Package edition on the market. It's one of the reasons why I'm not gonna get SR4 right away, I still haven't picked up Skyrim (will probably end up with the Legendary edition at some point) and why I'll be holding off on Arkham Origins.

I spent so much money that I didn't need to. I started saving so much since I basically started waiting for every major title to drop down to 20 bucks at wal-mart or something.

For a friend's birthday I looked at his wish-list and saw the Human Revolution was at the top. 30$ for a good friend sounded like a good deal, so I gifted it to him. The very next day Steam had a random 66% off on DE:HR. Great, I could have saved 20$ if I waited one day. Oh well.

I regret not going out and buying the metroid prime trilogy, later learning it was a limited time offer. q.q

I try looking for it used, but I have lost all hope that I will find it. And no I am not buying it off ebay.

I considered replaying Modern Warfare 3's campaign and did the first two or three missions on Veteran before I realised how awful it was.

Recently,

Although I traded in all of them I kinda regret paying full price and wasting my time and money playing these big "AAA" games on or shortly after release, Homefront, Brink, Rage, Mass Effect 3 and Crysis 3. I'll be honest, I didn't learn the first time nor the second time but finally and ironically (considering it's my favourite series this-gen), Mass Effect 3 was really the... (no pun intended), Catalyst for me... (pun totally intended), because as a Mass Effect fanboy I was really excited for ME3 and I honestly thought they would take all the best elements of ME1 and ME2 and make the final installment the best one... We all know how that one ended, or didn't end.

Anyway after the whole ending debacle ME3 kinda forced me to re-evaluate my role as a consumer. Nowadays I hardly ever buy games Day-1, I'll read 10+ reviews before I make a decision or maybe wait a week or two until any serious game breaking issues arise.

TLDR: I regret buying stuff Day-1

It's funny because Skyrim wishes it was as good as Oblivion, but that's another topic for another day.
I agree, but then again Skyrim did try it's own thing, at least for a little while.

Recently I regretted buying The Last of Us. I also regret not buying the Prime trilogy when I saw it once.

Same as yours, pal. Same as yours. Fortunately, I have a decent paying job, and went on a quest to reacquire those Gamecube titles I foolishly sold. Now, I refuse to ever sell my games or systems.

Borrowed Wind Waker from a friend. Lost a fair amount of progress (including finding the fucking randomly encountered psuedo fast travel system) in a power outage. I was so freaking sick of sailing at that point that I never finished it. Wish I did, that game had one of the coolest to watch combat system of any Zelda game.

Similar strain, I borrowed Skyward Sword from the same friend. Got insanely frustrated fighting the first boss (Ghirahim), all advice I could get was "just be random and wave your mote around" and didn't get anywhere. Gave the game back on a thought that the game was too much of a Wii Motion Plus gimmick (I am still right), wish I could've at least finished it.

Traded my copy of Baulder's Gate Dark Alliance 2 in for the PS2. About two years later, my brother and I played the first game again, with me assuming I still had the second one laying around. Turns out I didn't. Having $15 in my pocket, I figured I could buy the used PS2 game used. Nope. $40 for a used PS2 game, that NO GAMESTOPS IN MY AREA HAVE. The nearest store is almost two states over. Checked a week ago, still don't have any copies in my state, and it's still $40. I guess I could just order it online, but I don't have a job yet, so I don't have the $40 to spend on a used game, and the $15 I mentioned earlier I used for a gift for a friend.

That's gotta hurt. I've been looking for those forever and the few times I've seen them on ebay they may as well have been made of solid silver.

OT:
Buying the Deus Ex collectors pack. I thought HR was a pretty OK game, but I could just not make myself play the first one and that's the one everyone says is really good. I don't have the guts to boot up invisible war.
