Like games. It's easy.

I've been playing games since I was 2-3 so i've never been without games.

EDIT: Since I'm sure you wanted a more comprehensive answer...expand your horizons...find what interests you, oddly to be a gamer you play games

Regardless of what anyone tells you: if you play video games on at least a semi-regular basis, no matter what they are, you are a real gamer.

Duck Hunt. NES.

But that's incorrect. I really became a gamer when I got my N64, my Donkey Kong 64, my GoldenEye 64, and my NHL 99. For about 8 years afterward, gaming was my life!

I started off with the PS1. Loved that console. PS2 has IMO the greatest library. I have since gone back and played super mario bros and all that. I have always been a shooter/adventure gamer.

I think my first gaming experience was Night Stalker on the Intellivision, and that was probably around...1996. Yeah, we weren't on the cutting edge of technology back then. After that I mostly played either Quake or C&C Red Alert on our P.O.S. Packard Bell until my sisters bought a SNES. After that, I gradually moved on to each of the next generation Nintendo consoles as my gaming palette grew exponentially.

I got into gaming from playing Super Mario and Duck Hunt on the NES in preschool. Next came Pokemon which eventually led to me getting a PS1 and discovering Spyro the Dragon. After that my fate was sealed, I was a gamer.

Atari:

Qbert, Missile Command, Space Invaders

When NES came out it was gaming bliss, with Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mega Man. Video games were my life until high school when I started liking girls and social things. I then finished school and got married and figured out that games was still much cooler than all that so I'm right back in it.

That really sounds like you're starting to troll to me.

Because if you wanted it as your passion it'd -be- your passion already. Are you really expecting like...an instruction book?

This comes with time. Play enough video games and you will get immensely bored with mainstream games and hunt down the indie titles. The only suggestion I can make is to expand your horizons by buying games or genres you normally wouldn't and taking risks with your purchases. Coming here a lot won't hurt either.

i remember an NES...batman game? i think i remember seeing batman...idk though
beyond that, i rocked the n64 with zelda OOT, mario kart, turok 2 (one of my faves), and also played some Quake.
that was pre-jr high, in elementary i got my roots in metroid zelda and mario, then picked up Halo in jr high, became more adamant in metroid and zelda, then in HS got to CoD, Halo 3, ODST and Reach, while branching out to katamari, prototype, assassins creed and all sorts of other fun crap in the last couple years...
funfunfun!!

Sorry man, but I haven't been able to afford a PS3 yet. Although Ratchet and Clank is supposed to be good.

My first game was Deluxe Paint on the Amiga. I know not really a game... but I treated it like one! Then there were a lot of games my memories are vague on so I don't know the title. Then came games like SUPERFROG and James Pond 2 and Flashback and street fighter 2 - those are my first real gaming roots, or at least the ones I remember. Sonic and so on came later. :)

I was started with Pokemon for the gameboy advance. My first console game was crash Bandicoot and the Wrath of Cortex, followed closely by Kingdom Hearts (both for the PS2) I consider myslef transforming into a gamer a few hours into Kingdom Hearts.

The N64 and WWF No Mercy. So much of my time well spent and started my fruitful relationship with gaming ever since.

I grew up on Duck Hunt and Super Mario Bros. I also grew up on Doom, Quake, and the original Warcraft games. I remember my first gaming consoles like I played them yesterday. Good times.

Anyway, as some people have said, if you play fairly regularly, you're a gamer. I don't like sports games or racing games because if I wanted to do those, I'd grab some friends and start a real game, but that's mostly preference. I'm not going to knock the people that only play those, just like I don't expect to get knocked for playing non-sports games.
