I was playing Fallout: New Vegas. I was getting near to the end of the Blood Money DLC, something that had frustrated me to no end.

My Dog saw a squirrel and went barreling by my desk, got tripped up on the power cord, and my ripped my entire latop off the desk and onto the wooden floor. Destroyed the internal hardrive.

Not only did I lose my chance to complete the blood money DLC, but I lost ever. Single. Save File.

I still haven't been able to replay New Vegas since then.

My gamecube memory card corrupted my Super Mario Sunshine save when I was 3 blue coins short of 120 stars as well as my X-men Legends 2 save at the save point right outside the final boss's door.

Years ago, probably in the ancient time of 2004 or so, I had spent the previous two weeks playing through Neverwinter Nights 2, and I was still getting equipment and such for the final boss, when I saved right by the final area. The next day, as I was all geared up to play it, I found that my grandmother thought that the game on the desktop was a virus of some sort and took it to the computer repair shop to get it fixed. So long story short, I never beat Neverwinter Nights 2.

Also there was the time I spent the entire night before playing through the last few months in Persona 3 FES on hard, and right when I'm midway through the final boss (and if you know this game, you know the final boss is quite a marathon), the whole city has a blackout. When I finally got the power back, I went to play more only to find that some of my game's save data was corrupted, which I assume was because of the power outage. Not only did I lose all my progress in Persona 3 FES, I also lost all my created characters in Soul Calibur 4, and my save file in Just Cause 2.

Oh, that's brutal, I got one like that.
Well, it's not my story, it's not even my friend's story, it's my friend's friend's story but screw it, I'll tell it anyway.
I don't play Pokemon anymore but I knew what the words "Shiny Abra" meant. But unfortunately for this trainer, he had already used his Master Ball. So he throws a whatever ball, it doesn't work.
Shiny Abra flees.
That one made me want to cry.

I too, deleted my saves but because of a stupid, stupid reason: panic D:

I nearly finished Star Ocean The Last Hope International after 80+ hours of gameplay. I decided to finish the game the next day but when i woke up i couldn't start any of my games. I looked everywhere but I couldn't find a solution so I did what every sensible guy does: Delete all the games and saves.
And what was the problem: some glitch with the internal clock of my PS3 and everything fixed itself a day later.

Oh SOTLH forgive me T_T

Not quite a save mishap, but sobby all the same:

Once upon a time I was pretty into runes of magic and met a great guy. We clicked pretty well and were usually on around the same time, doing all sorts of mmo-ish things together. All in all good times. Especially considering that in mmo's I'm usually that guy that joins a mediocre guild and then just quests solo while talking in guild chat. Even the guild took notice, as we quickly gained a reputation as the dynamic duo. With him being the reliable pve tank expert, and me the scampy pvp rogue. One day he left me a message saying he had something important to tell me at 5 pm the next day. Sounded kinda ominous so I said I'd be there, but like the scamp that I am I missed the rendez-vous. When I finally did log in around 6pm, he wasn't there anymore. I asked around the guild but apparantly he only asked me to be there. My bad, but no biggy right? I'll ask about it next time he's on. Except he was never heard from again. All I know is he left me full access to his house... (there's player housing in runes of magic, fyi)

I'm sure everyone here has experienced the horror of accidentally saving over Elder Scrolls/Fallout data. But this Fallout NV story on the Xbox 360 wasn't even my fault.

As we all know, these games are prone to crashing, so when mine kept doing it, I ignored it a soldiered on. But it got more and more frequent, and eventually, the strangest bug occurred (a bug? in Fallout?! Come off it!) in which an area about the width of The Strip and stretching from the top to the bottom of the map straight down the centre was just a huge, blank 100ft drop (although some of the terrain above it remained, but I went straight through it). Naturally,I just thought it was a corrupted save or some such, so I deleted that game and made a new one(I wasn't pleased, but I sucked it up, it was hardly my first ever playthrough) but the new one crashed every time I went out of Goodsprings. Then I realised that the same area of land had the same problem. I tried my brother's disk, which had no problems. Meaning I had deleted my lovely save games FOR NO BLOODY REASON WELL WHAT WAS THE RUDDY POINT IN THAT THEN YOU SILLY BASTARDS AT OBSIDIAN  and that made me very annoyed indeed. After installing my brother's disk it worked fine.

PS. I don't actually blame the Obsidian people fully for this, just quite a lot.

My Pokemon Red internal battery died. I had Mew and all the rest of the 150 in my Pokedex.

Pokemon Yellow. 2003. I had my Gameboy plugged in with the AC cable and during the act of saving the plug popped out. 146 Pokemon instantly gone. That was closest I had ever been to filling the Pokedex and I haven't come that close ever since.

At the time it was heartbreaking. I actually didn't play Pokemon for months after that.

Well, you know those memory card adapters that allow you to back up PS1/PS2 memory cards on your PS3? Just a few days before I got one, two of my three PS1 memory cards died on me.

I still consider myself lucky, since I was kind of saving by genre (black card for platformers, blue card for RPGs, yellow card for miscellaneous) and the blue one survived.

Also, my data of Soul Calibur II, lost my "100% complete" save two times. Why? Because the game NEVER STOPS SAVING. So, yeah, never just shut down your PS2 after playing a versus match in SC II.

Welcome to the Escapist!

Okay, I got a good one. I had bought the Playstation (That's Playstation One) and several games for it. But I needed a memory card. Being the all too intelligent and cheap little bastard that I was, I opted for a used memory card. But not just any memory card, one that was about 24 memory cards in one. You simply had to switch between the cards using a display on the card.

Now, obviously this wasn't an official Sony product. But I figured this would still work and save me from having to purchase a dozen memory cards, or more precisely, beg my parents to buy extra cards.

Well fast forward a few months. I had games like Final Fantasy 7, Pitfall, Final Fantasy Tactics, and some others. All with many hours (in the case of the FF games, dozens likely multiple times over) saved on each card. I was playing Final Fantasy 7 and got to the Final Boss. Now, I created the Save Point just before the boss and went on to battle him. I crushed Jenova with Knights of the Round. Destroyed Bizarro Sephiroth with it as well. And obviously went on to beat the game.

After all was said and done, I turned off the system and went to spend some time with my parents in the living room. But after a while, I got bitten by the bug to hear Sephiroth's boss theme, One Winged Angel, again. Realizing that I saved just before getting to him, I went back to my room and booted it up.

There was no save data. I'm not just talking about for FF7. No, I'm talking about for any of the games. It was all deleted.

After that, I returned the memory card and asked what happened. The clerk told me that was an issue with products that weren't official Sony products. I then got a new Official Sony Memory Card. I think my parents generally gave me memory cards as a sort of stocking stuffer from then on.

TL:DR Version: I bought a memory card for my PS1 that was many cards in one and it deleted all my save data.

Back in the 90s my dad had brought home a PC from work where he was training in programming. He offered for me to install X-Wing on it, and I played for a few weeks, reaching the Death Star missions.

One day I came home from school to find the PC missing; he had to format the hard drive and return it to work. Absolutely gutted.

Icewind Dale for the PC.

I put so much time into this game when I first got it, it was unreal. I loved the story, loved how everything worked, it was a blast to play. But, I kept wondering why I was getting this really good gear for a bard class, of all things, the closer to the end of the game I got. Now, if you know anything about Dungeons and Dragons, there's one fact no one will ever sugarcoat: Bards Suck. I was mowing through content like no tomorrow with a ranger, paladin, 2 mages and 2 druids. Stuff was hard in places, yes, but I felt confident going up against the final boss.

So, I get to him. Saved outside, so all is good. And I proceed to try to beat this ever-loving bastard for THREE SOLID DAYS. Getting nowhere. So, what am I doing wrong? I get curious, hop on the net to see how I need to beat this guy....

You need a bard. No ifs ands or buts about it. You need a glove that drops for the bard that is enchanted with some kind of +20 Smite of Holy Nap, or some kind of shit like that. Anyway, I was pissed beyond belief and never even tried to run through with a bard on the group. It was like being told by an actual DM 'Oh, sorry, you can't play anything but a semi-nude human female barbarian! Mwahaha!!!'

Using local save files since Steam have on more than one occasion decided to nullify my latest save and revert back to an older one.

Played through The Walking Dead season 1 (like so many others) last year. When I updated my hardware I decided for a clean install, so I did backups of everything that I wanted to keep. Except this one save file.

I am still at a loss if I should bother going through the feels again, and will they be the same? Will they be real or will I simply play it to get my save data, feeling nothing for her in season 2?

I have tried searching the web for a program that allows me to make a savefile based on my decisions on the game, without going through it again. Sadly, with no luck.

I used to have a Hacked PS2 and an imported copy of Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix and I used to play it all the time. I was addicted. A few years ago (with my boyfriend at the time) I went to show him it because he was a huge fan of Kingdom Hearts like myself.

He looked at my PS2 and though it was broken, and kept telling me he could fix it. I kept telling him it wasn't, and I went up from my basement to get us snacks. When I came downstairs, he was sitting in front of the PS2, so of course I asked what he was doing.

He turned around and was holding the top to my PS2 snapped off and this guilty face that said 'shit'. So I asked what he did and he said 'Well I was trying to fix it.' and suddenly I could not clip it back on. My PS2 broke and it only worked when I put it under something dark.

Flash forward a few years and I tried to get it to work, but my dad switched the TV table and it had no bottom big enough to fit the PS2 under. So basically its useless.

That's why I thank Square Enix for re-releasing the Final Mix of KHII here.

Yesterday I accidentally deleted some of my progress in my replay of Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies because the power button on the 3DS is EXACTLY where the Start button was on the old DS. Didn't lose that much but damn was it annoying.

Also pretty sure Fallout: New Vegas crashed on me and lost a few hours of data before but really, who hasn't had an Obsidian game crash and burn on them before?
I've done this a few times in Animal crossing and it pissed me off every time lol.
What was Nintendo thinking with that troll design?
