List some games that you always hear are great, but for some reason or another you haven't finished them or even played them at all.

Here's mine:
Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne
Tactics Ogre Let Us Cling Together
Planescape Torment
The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask.

So, I get it, I need to get over my own preferences apparently. I need to start getting into this whole "Narrative" thing because narrative is the most important thing now.

But SCREW MAFIA II. Ok fine, games are not strictly toys anymore, I got that. But no one has given me one good reason why I should change my opinion and my interpretation of this game. Because I played it, and it had a narrative that was padded to hell, often with things that were often no fun to do. And it ended with a cliffhanger of all things.

But I guess people are right. Games are not toys. Toys have the balls to be what they are and not be completely ashamed. The toy industry gives no fucks about seeming mature or deep. All it cares about is providing something fun to play with. Something cool to mess with. Ever watch toy story? I think that was the first movie I ever saw. I also saw the second and third, both of which got heavy, but it all lead back to one thing. Making a child happy.

Meanwhile, over here in gaming town, we've got people calling themselves "Directors" instead of game designers, throwing in shock scenes right and left, or in mafia II's case, including chores for no reason except to pad out the narrative and highlight that vito's life was boring. Well congrats, you've made a game boring to play to service a story. Well done. I guess the fanbase got what they wanted. Hell, I hope there's a sequel so that fanbase doesn't start shitting on other game series with "WHURR IS TEH REALIZM?!"

I don't know, maybe I would have cared more if vito was in any way interesting. But he wasn't. The GTA III guy had more personality, I mean, at least he had a revenge angle to his story and he wants to get back at a woman who betrayed him. That's something. Vito is like "I want money, therefore I will commit crimes because I want to get rich quick." and that's it. He has a family, but they abandon him by chapter six and then it's back to just "I want money". If the game was at least more fun, I could have forgiven that. But a boring game and a basically uninteresting character that ruins any story the game might have? No. No, I will not forgive it. Waste of time.

I think I have a copy of Portal because Steam gave away free copies once, but it doesn't interest me in the slightest. Also, I know I'm completely stretching the question but this entire site fell in love with Katawa Shoujo and while I forced myself to complete it because I'm open minded to new genres like that, I thought it was the most boring piece of crap I've ever had the misfortune of struggling through.

Final Fantasy VI. No real shame though. And Chrono Trigger. I get that these are supposedly the pinnacle of 16 bit RPGs, according to quite a few people, but they just put me to sleep.

My list would be like 200 games long lol.
My backlog has become so insurmountable I've basically just given up on it.

Damnit completely misread the thread.
Yeah for me currently this would be a long long list containg stuff like Icewind Dale 1 and 2, Kotor 2 and a lot of other older RPGs.

Edit:
Thinking about it a bit more.

Not played at all:
Any Silent Hill game. Always wanted to but never got around to playing them.
Legend of Grimrock: A friend always tells me how awesome this game is and that I have to play it but still haven't got around to actually start it. I even have it installed but...

Not finished:
Freelancer, I remember I really liked it but somehow never finished it. Now I can't seem to find it anywhere for sale (for a reasonable price that is).
Thief 3: Got 3/4 through it and then my save game broke. But since I'm just about to finish Thief 2 I guess Thief 3 will be my next game to play.
Supreme Commander: I played a few games but somehow I don't like the game. Can't even point to anything in particular that makes me not like it. I loved Total Annihilation to pieces but SC is not giving me the same feeling.

Final Fantasy IX - Couldn't beat Gizamaluke so I decided to take a short break from the game. Sometime later I lost my save file.

GTA San Andreas - I managed to get halfway through the final mission, at which point my old crappy computer started having massive framerate problems due to all the smoke. I'd try again now I have a better PC but I've since lost the save file.

Deus Ex - Got pretty close to the endgame, then I lost the save file.

Fire Emblem Sacred Stones - Hey guess what happened.

Loads more actually, these are just the ones I regret the most. Although I might try FFIX again since Gizamaluke's Grotto is pretty close the start.

Older GTA's + Fallouts, older RPG's like Chrino Trigger, I'll get on that soon cuz Earthbound was amazing. DayZ, Morrowind, Sleeping Dogs, etc. I own Sleeping Dogs and Fallout 1 + 2, but haven't really given either of them a chance yet.

Never played

Secret of mana
Suikoden 2

Never finished

Silent hill 2.

To be fair i was too young to buy my own games when those came out. And suikoden 2 is not an easy/cheap game to find. As for silenthill2 while i own a copy of that game, i'm too scared to finish it.

Dragon Age Origins - Disliked the gameplay and setting very much initially, haven't gotten back around to it yet
Borderlands - Could never hold together a group for long enough to beat the game
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West - I actually really like this one, I just was very busy that month and it kind of got brushed to the wayside.
Thief 1+2 - Bought in a bundle a ways back, haven't played yet.
Braid - got stuck on one of the puzzles, too proud to cheat.
Hitman series - same situation as the thief games.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown - love this game, but never had the drive to actually finish it.
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines - bought on sale becuase I heard it was like Deus EX, haven't played yet.
Planescape Torment - Really liked the story and setting, but found the UI arduous and poorly aged.
Ultima VII - Same as above.

I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting, but those are the ones that immediately come to mind.

Kingdom Hearts 1 (started the first one but I can't simply continue due to it's campyness)
Braid
Silent Hill series
FF IX
No Mario game past Super Mario Bros (on Gameboy)
No Pokemon game
No Zelda game
No Metroid game

Those are the ones that spring to mind.

Honestly, I've taken up the policy of a guilt-free reset whenever I upgrade my console.

So my current Wall of Shame is Killzone: Shadow Fall, Outlast, Dead Nation, Resogun, Don't Starve and Child of Light.

So now I've got a PS4, I'm allowed to ignore PS3 games.

And with strategy games, I've taken up the policy of completing a single campaign and then moving on. With story games, I just finish the story and move on. Is a game shit? Move on, guilt free.

On my Steam Wall of Shame, currently have installed Dark Souls, Far Cry 3, Europa Universalis IV, Beyond Good and Evil, Deus Ex (the old one), FEAR, L.A. Noire, Long Live the Queen, One Finger Death Punch, Saint's Row 2, Sleeping Dogs, To the Moon, Tropico 4, the Witcher, the Wolf Among Us and Walking Dead Season 2.
I've also got Civ 5, but me and my girlfriend play that together; probably where 90% of my gaming time goes. I have about another 200 games, but I'll install them as I finish these games. I am lucky enough, I believe, to have so many fantastic games to play.

Wait a minute, so, you're saying: "List some games that you always hear are great, but for some reason or another you haven't finished them or even played them at all."

So, do you mean games that got good scores and people are always bragging about how good they are?

Or do you mean only the fraction of said selection of games that actually spark your own interest?

If it's the first, too much to start summing up. You can start when every game that has appeared for a platform I don't own, work your way down to every genre I don't care for and then end at 90% of the first/second party titles Nintendo has released after the SNES era.

If it's the second... I think there's isn't much to talk about except for some handheld-exclusive JRPGs (never had a handheld, probably never will).

Red Dead Redemption - Started, got half way through while enjoying every moment, then had to put down while I was out on a long house sitting job. By the time I got home, I just never picked it up again. Not sure why, but the impulse still hasn't hit me.

The Entire Thief Series - Own the whole series (except for the most recent installment) and all my friends and half the internet insist they're the best things ever, but I couldn't get into the first one and that made me indifferent to even try the rest.

Dragon Age: Inquisition - Someone got this for me expressly because they thought I'd love it and I did, right up until the moment my save was locked in a completely unwinnable random battle that sees half or more of my party being instant killed by a fireball within the first few seconds of the battle. Have yet to bring myself to play through from the beginning all over again.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series (outside of SoC) - Loved the first one, but found Clear Sky annoying as heck and just could not get into Call of Pripyat. Modding the games actually made it worse, since all the mods that people were telling me were great (like Misery) I found made the game a joyless slough (shocking I know. A mod named Misery isn't fun?).

Witcher 1+2: I'm a fan of RPG, I own both titles, but I never played them for a really long time.

Some old classics: Growing up with Nintendo, I missed some classic titles not released on there. Kotor, Deus Ex, Baldur's Gate, Fallout 1+2... I own all of these titles, but never played them.

Final Fantasy X-2, XII, XII-2 & 3: I loved the old Final Fantasy titles, but never played anything after X. Except FF XIII (probably my biggest gaming sin: I thought the game was alright...?)

Any horror title: Amnesia, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Fear, ... Too scared, to play them Q.Q I actually love watching horror movies, but games make me freak out

Persona 4: Loved the title. Played until that 8bit dungeon. Lost my savefile. Never touched the game again.

My backlog is immense. I've played maybe a quarter of the games in my steam library, and finished perhaps a quarter of those. Notable ones that spring to mind are KOTOR 1+2, Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite, Metro 2033, Batman AA, Cave Story, Prototype, AssCreed 2, Darksiders and every Dawn of War game.
I am also ashamed to admit that of the games in my GoG library I have not finished a single one. Planescape Torment, Neverwinter Nights, Baldurs Gate 1 and 2, Icewind Dale 1 and 2, Beyond good and evil, The Witcher 2... I could go on.

Dark Soul. I deeply regret I did not give this game another try, and that's all. I could have played Witcher 2 on Xbox 360 but it's not shame more a small regret.

The Last of Us, Chrono Trigger(tried it, but never stuck with the game) and Baldur's Gate. The list could be endless.
One somewhat related shame I got, which is a title I have played, is Dark Souls. I got to the Capra Demon, got beaten up over and over again and eventually decided to use the Dragonhead glitch to get past him. My plans were just to make me strong enough for him, then never again.
I ended up maxing most stats, maxing my humanity and cloning gear upgrade items. Got a platinum for that game. :$
Plan on playing it as it's supposed to soon, but I'll probably use the firebomb cheat on Capra Demon. Fuck him and his dogs.
