Whats that one thing that will instantly get you interested in a game? The thing which makes you buy games just for having them?

Mine is a good zombie enemy. Flood in halo, zerg in starcraft, scourge in WoW. I love me some zombie menace :D.

I'd have to say, a dark, deppressing atmosphere. I loved Bioshock, and Stalker. But sometimes I'll get games like Myst or Amnesia, just because they have this really cool world that sorta creeps you out, but I never finish them.

Anything that is an RTS on Epic proportions. Lotr ones especially. That and Multiplayer games that are hugely team based.

Oh and anything that is a sequel to a game I really liked.

A game where a revolution takes place. Though, admittedly it doesn't make the game good (see Fable 3)

Come on, it wasn't that bad. You would have liked it if it wasn't for Peter Molyneux...

I'm drawn in by a good story. If it's got that, then I'm almost guaranteed to like it.

Skill trees and experience points. Bethesda's approach is different, but I love leveling individual skills as well. That and giant, giant game worlds. I want to explore the hell out of everything. This is why Minecraft rocks.

Super powers. Not super strength or acrobatics or shit like that, those don't count in gaming anymore unless you're Batman. I'm talking throwing fire from your hands, teleportation, flight, shooting lazers, summoning demons, anything that lets me do something I couldn't in reality with more umph than shoot a gun (laser guns do not count, I can pull a trigger in reality). It's the only reason Prototype stands as one of my favourite games, and the second reason besides Mark Hammil why I like DCUO.

Also, Halo. But Halo's never let me down before.

A one inch thick, three inch diameter, frozen rubber disc. I buy every game that has one.

Intrigue. If I even have one question that I care about I'll play until it's answered.

It has to be backed by some good character or plot point, otherwise I'll stop caring.

Heh, no I pretty much disliked everything about #3, no menus, (actually there were, they just took forever to use because they were in 3d...) forced plot, everything, the game treated me like I was an idiot.

OT: also, another thing that usually gets me is a unique art style. I like it a lot when they mix it up. Which is kinda sad since "not muddy brown" shouldn't be asking for all that much.

Gameplay elements that allow you more than one option to get past an enemy. In Bioshock, when I see or hear a nearby enemy, I either kill it, sneak past it, us a distraction plasmid and sneak past it, place a trap for it, or sneak up from behind and smack it with a wrench. Variety is always nice.

Simply the variety of killing the enemy alone requires it's own spreadsheet of options.

Good story/good dialogue and/or a dark setting

Also Zombies... Slow zombies in particular, fast Zom's are just unfair

Exp, leveling up, skill trees. Making my character stronger and more specialized really gets me into a game. The more customization the better.
