It has to be either Half-Life 2 or Mirror's Edge. When I just don't feel like playing anything in particular, I can always start either of those up and just loose a couple of hours no problem. Recently I started playing Mount & Blade Warband again, so maybe that'll be one as well. I also do dabble in Kerbal Space Program a bit, but I think I might be one of the worst players of that game ever. My usual solution to any problem is to strap more solid fuel boosters on my rocket. The results tend to get... messy...

Hard to really say, since I almost always have a particular game or two that I'm working on. I don't think I've ever experienced something like "I want to play a video game, but I don't know what."

That said, I'll twist the question just a little bit. One game I could put on at any given time no matter my mood is Katamari Forever.

Right now? TERA Rising

I think my go-to game in general would be Assassin's Creed 2 or Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

Those two are the ones that come to mind.

Honestly?

Most of the time I end up flicking through my collection, and then not playing anything. At those times it probably wasn't meant to be.

PC Monkey Island Series (just so darn replayable)

and Delta Force Black Hawk Down.

On PS3 I change more, currently it's Playstation All-Stars. Big Daddy-ing the hell outta people. :)

I pretty consistently stick with Shogun 2 and Just Cause 2. I never get bored, so many ways to play and so much to do.

CoD 4 or Black Ops 2 depending on what I feel like that day and who's playing.
Been playing Kerbal Space Program with a few friends recently as well. Still hoping for a multiplayer mod so we can have a proper space race, then build our own version of the ISS.

Final fantasy VII, Tactics, or VIII or a speed run of Starcraft and Starcraft: Brood war. Also Star Wars Knights of the Old republic 2, or any of the Legacy of Kain series

fall of cybertron usually because the multiplayer is still alive and good and singleplayer is still fun to play regardless of no co-op.

I should go back to playing Red Alert 2+3 sometime and see if they brought RA1 back online on the PC.

Team Fortress 2 or Left 4 Dead 2. Which one depends on whether I'm in the mood too get repeatedly backstabbed/headshotted or get beaten to death by zombies while my teammates are busy examining the floor.

I'm not sure I have a go-to game. Back in the day, it was likely StarCraft or Rainbow Six. My roommate and I would play against 6 AI in SC for fun, and for R6, I could get through nearly any level with just one operative and a pistol. I don't play games on my computer much anymore, don't really care for multiplayer in any game (though I enjoyed the Assassin's Creed multiplayer for it's innovation) and I've got a decent backlog of PS3 games to finish. I can always load up Batman: Arkham Asylum for some quick beat-em-up fun, so I guess that.

Star Wars KOTOR 1 and 2. Quite simply two of the best RPG's ever made. Even today the 2003 graphics don't bother me, because of the sheer awesomeness of the game underneath.

(admittedly, 2 is basically unfinished, but mods can fix that)

Age of Empires II.

Got it a few weeks after the release and have been playing that same copy since.
And now recently I also bought the one from Steam with "HD" just to be able to play it with friends and randoms.
Longbowmen ftw <3

If I am at my 360 it's always the newest Halo released for the multiplayer with friends.

And when I have some projects in my mind, Minecraft.

My go-to game when I want to play a game but don't have any strong feelings as to which game is usually something with no real end-point.

So something like Torchlight, Diablo, Borderlands, or endless rounds of team death match in one of IW's Call of Duty games. Something that I can kill time with, and never really finish, so that I can kill time with it again on another day when I'm indecisive about what to play.

My go to is Dishonored or the Portal series. It used to be Age of Mythology but meh, changing times

Dragon Age: Origins, and to a lesser extent Halo: the Latest One. I don't think I'll ever stop playing DA:O until I've exhausted every possible gender/race/origin/class combination twice.

Ultimately, Railworks. Good mindless play for when I'm between games or don't necessarily feel like playing any particular one. Also good for when I want to watch stuff on my computer, but don't want to give it my full attention.

Dragon Age: Origins, as of right now. The series in general, I've been playing it over and over the past two months -- the DLC is a bit of an incentive and changes the pace somewhat.
