My idea is this: Dark Souls and Journey cooked together with the spice that made Shadow of the Colossus one of the best games I've ever played. Someone in this thread remind me in a year or so about this; I'm currently picking up programming now, and this is definitely an idea I want to work on. ;-)

That's going to be a hell of an undertaking after one year of programming. Good luck though.

I've got a couple of ideas I'll hopefully work on with a friend of mine soon:

One is an TBS. The idea is that instead of controlling whole units of archers or spearmen or whatever, you have the equivalent of a fully customisable squad where you control each member individually. Like if you were some kind of WoW God that could control all 5 players in the party at once.

Instead of tiles representing entire forests or fields or mountains or whatever, like they do in Civ and other TBS games, they'd represent things like an individual bush, or patch of grass, or whatever. This, combined with some clever LOS and fog of war and similar stuff, would mean that you could take any number of tactical options. Do you sneak all your guys in, using cover, and then pick people off? Do you charge at the front gate? Do you surround the enemy and attack from all sides? And so on...

Don't know quite how combat will work though. I don't want it to be just bashing away at adjacent tiles for x hitpoints, but I can't think of another way of doing it that isn't largely luck based. I want everything to be skill/strategy, preferably. I was thinking that each individual guy could be very fragile, so you'd have to strategise carefully to make sure they all survive. There'd be some kinda nodes or respawn points if the party does get wiped out...

Anyway, that's quite rambling but you hopefully get the idea. The other idea is for a 2D platformer, but that one's even less fleshed out right now. I keep changing the core ideas, all I've got is an art style for sure...

Haha, thanks! This really isn't something that I'm going to force out, but more of a dream project to say. I'll work on it from time to time as I improve my general programming doing other tasks for other games (those are just simple text adventures and 2D platformers for now). :)
