Let's see. I can't remember which game it was (I know it had to be 4th gen) but I was in the cave in which Heatran was located. As anyone who's played it will know, in the cave, you team up with some guy who uses a Claydol, and go through the cave with them.

So as we were going through the cave, we had a double encounter, and there it was. A shiny Macargo. My first shiny encounter ever.

You'll remember that you can't catch Pokemon in double encounters until you take out one of the two, so I attacked the other regular Macargo, who had a little sliver of health left, ready for my partner to take care of it.

The asshole uses Ancientpower on the shiny Macargo, which winds up being a critical hit.
It's a one hit KO.

Every battle after that, I immediately attacked my partner's Claydol before turning on our opponents.
Thats a tragic tale :'(

I've found a fair few shinies in my time. All of them Zubat but one. Which was a Golbat ¬_¬ Where's my shiny Groudon nintendo?

Oh, I have plenty of failures in League of Legends... I can't even blame my team for most of them XD

Several times I just sit there going "dafaq is going on?!" during team fights... So much shit is just happening I get a bit dazed. And having my fingers on 2345 instead of 1234 gets me fucking owned... Yes I rebound the keys from qwer because I play too much TF2.

I try to run when i've already commited and I don't help the guy who is counting on me to burst the second guy down because i'm always thinking full health = unkillable

Oh the proper most amazing fail was when I misclicked about 50 times on a low health Ashe and just stood there getting arrow'd to death waiting for auto attacks that weren't coming DX

Well, looks like i've found a Champion I like now. Come on, Katarina has a teleport and breaks the Fourth Wall? DO WANT!

Evelynn you will be missed... If only your Hate Spike prioritised Champions, we'd still be together. Alas, fuck you.

It was during a scrim and in one of the rounds I move my mouse of the mat when I was using a ball point so I couldn't kill the guy defusing so we lost that round. I think we may have lost the scrim but not sure on that one.

I loved Heaven and Hell mode in DMC4, when do you get it in 3? I'm just finishing Dante Must Die on the HD collection, do I get it then?

Also, try Hell and Hell mode in DMC4, all enemies on the Must Die difficulty and you die in one hit.
I'm not sure I haven't played it in like 5 years I think it's after son of sparta? But it might be different on the HD collection since it's the special edition(?).

Hell or Hell was fucking insane xD I did it, with much swearing and controller throwing I bloody did it.

The bit with the falling floor and enemies everytime you fall. With those cheap ghosty things. Fuck that bit. It was alot easier once you could play as Dante and use Royal Guard; the style of people who live for SSS.

My biggest fail, getting trapped in the Burned out building that had the key to get into Blain's Gym. Had to faint all my Pokemon to get out.... That was sad.

I was playing a nuzlocke run (If a pokemon faints, it's dead) on FireRed. Recently caught a Snorlax. I was gonna make it so awesome. Body Slam, Brick Break, Shadowball, Earthquake, that was the plan.

There I was in Silph Co. when the guy sends out Machop lv. 28. "Easy," I thought, "Snorlax is lv. 35." Oh, how wrong I was. Used Body Slam, sliver of HP left. Machop uses Revenge. For those that don't know, Revenge is Fighting type which is double damage against Snorlax's Normal type, and also does double damage if the user takes damage on the same turn. QUADRUPLE DAMAGE. Snorlax dies, I mourn, and have to find a new mon to fight Sabrina.
Yeah, I've ran into trouble before. In my current Nuzlocke run in Leafgreen, I breezed through Sabrina's entire team. Then she tosses out Alakazam.

He proceeds to one shot critical my Blastoise.
He proceeds to nearly one shot my Kadabra.
He proceeds to one shot my Graveler, as I despreately try to heal Kadabra.
He proceeds to one shot my Pidgeot.

The only thing that saved me from a wipe was my Kadabra managing a lucky crit on him.

That wasn't a fun day.

Get yourself a MewTwo, a Zapdos, a Scizor, a Charizard, a Blastoise, and an Alakazam, all level 60 at least, and you'll do just fine. That's what I beat the game with last time I played through Sapphire. :p

But in all seriousness, as I bet most of the above mentioned pokemon will be out of your grasp, 44 is just way too low to try and beat the game. Go at least to 55. And even then it'll likely still be pretty tough.
I found out how to destroy the elite four in sapphire. Just use kyogre and blaziken/breloom with sky uppercut. Switch them out on each elite four member starting with kyogre, against Phoebe, blaziken against Sidney, blaziken against the ice one and kyogre against drake and both against whatshisname. Although it's key that kyogre knows ice beam hydro pump/surf and Thunder. Teach blaziken overheat too. I pretty much did this every time, got them both up to 99 while doing this.
Yeah, from what I've heard, in Sapphire really all you need is a good Blaziken and it can pretty much solo the Pokemon League.

Non Pokemon related, I played Super Ghouls and Ghosts for the Game Boy Advance on my Nintendo DS. I avoided the "infinite lives" cheat if you quit when you die a lot, going for as legit a victory as possible. I had played the game several times repeatedly, but never finished it. The time that i finally did decide that I was going to win, I had a lot of trouble. I died, and died and died, (as to be expected, of course) and it grew really frustrating. Realizing that i was not having any fun, i considered giving up on the game forever. (that would be a first, by the way) But then I finally beat the first final boss with a single life left, had to start from the beginning (You have to go through the game twice), and then I was suddenly doing a lot better. I restocked up on my lives, reached the second final boss again, and beat him with just a few lives remaining. I fought the final boss, and, although he is easy, I lost my last few lives. I had to start the entire game over again. (both rounds)

Although in my next attempt that day I was able to succeed, my Nintendo DS that i played on must have overheated, and now the bottom screen always shakes and has lines going across it. I won, but at a price. However, the end-game picture is now my cell phone background. That is not changing for a long, long time.

As for Pokemon, I always took my time with the game, so i never really had to much trouble in the elite 4. However, I have taken up Shiny pokemon hunting in Pearl. Losing a chain at 40? man, that is lame. you know what is worse? You SEE the shiny patch of grass, you swap to the Raltz with Syncronize to hopefully get a good nature, you take one step down BOOM. Chain ends.
- Note to all you Shiny hunters out there. You may have a lv 65 tentacruel in your team, but if you have a lv. 7 raltz up front, the Max repel isn't going to due squat in an area where the enemies are level 15. ... I didn't want that psyduck anyway... stupid duck...

Odin Sphere. To get the best ending you have to do the following:
-Beat the final bosses in the incorrect order 3 times (to unlock all the scene variations).
-Beat them in the correct order one last time.

I got the correct order first, and was working on the incorrect orders but Velvet is fucking impossible to use in some stages and the 2nd final boss takes at least 15 minutes to beat.

As a result, I never had enough time to get the last ending, despite it being my favorite PS2 game.

What was your biggest failure in a game?

For me, I have just experienced my greatest defeat in Pokemon Ruby, at the Pokemon League, to the champion.

I have just got out of Victory Road and I was eager to take on the Elite Four. My Pokemon were all around lv. 40 by the time we got the Pokemon League. After I did some rather hasty training, all of my Pokemon were at lv. 44 and we were ready to take on Elite Four and the Champion.

Or so we thought...

After fighting through the Elite Four, burning through many Full Restores and Revives, we finally made it to the end. After climbing a long staircase, we entered the next room to find our friend Steven there. Apparently he has been waiting for us, and wants to see what brought me all the way to this point. So we did battle, whoever wins becomes the champion.

Steven was an incredible trainer. While I was able to take out his Skarmory with my Torkoal no problem, it was when he brought out his Metagross did things took a turn for the worse. His Metagross was able to one or two shot all of my Pokemon no matter what I did to prepare for it. I tried using the Quick Claw on Swampert so he can use Earthquakes faster than he could hit me, I tried maxing out both my Torkoals physical and special defense using Iron Defense and Amnesia repsectively, I even tried outlasting it by constantly healing my Pokemon.

Alas, no matter what I did, Steven kept besting me.

A few reloads later, I attempted the Torkoal defense strategy I mentioned before. This time however I used my Gardevoir to take Skarmory after Torkoal was finished. That way I could save his Overheat attack for Metagross. (In case you're wondering why, it's because his special attack goes down every time he uses Overheat)

After Skarmory was finished, Steven decided to do something he never did before up until this point. Instead of switching to Metagross, he brings out his Cradily instead. I wasn't sure what he was planning, but I was able to take it out with my Makuhitta after exchanging blows for a while. Then he brought out his Armaldo, which I took out relatively easily using my Swampert's surf.

It was at this point I was starting to gain hope. Perhaps I can win this after all! Then the moment of truth came, he brought out his Metagross, and I brought out my Torkoal, who's defenses were all maxed out. I prepared to use Overheat, and then Metagross used Earthquake.

Torkoal fainted...

My last hope was gone. Without Torkoal, there was nothing I could do against Metagross. It was at this point I realized I was clearly outclassed by Steven and didn't have the means to defeat him yet. So, I sent out my entire team after Metagross. One by one they were all KO'd. Until there was nothing left.

Next thing I knew, I was outside the Pokemon League. I was riding high all the way up to this point. Only to fall back into the dirt from whence I came.

This is not the end though. I'll go back and train my Pokemon some more. I'll rematch trainers and earn me some cash to buy me some more healing items for the next time I take on the Pokemon League. We'll become even stronger than we are now!

I will rise from the ashes...

...AND I WILL BECOME THE CHAMPION!!!

...

...yeah.

So what was your greatest defeat at the hands of a game? Whether it be through single player or multiplayer? Share your stories.
Cynthia in pokemon diamond was ridiculous, she rehealed her pokemon way too often and in the newer games even gym leaders do it which pisses me off.

I was grinding for Maghar rep on my level 80 enhance shaman in WOW (in Tier 7 PVE gear)and somehow managed to get killed by a level 68 death knight TWICE! I wasn't even at low health when it happened, and I STARTED THE FIGHT!

I have no clue how I failed so hard lmao!
