What have been your most memorable "epic failings" while playing video games?

I have two that really stand out:

1) Legend of Zelda : Ocarina of Time - Queen Gohma Won't Die!
Now, granted, the N64 was my first actual console; I had only played PC before then. This was also my third game for the series after Star Wars Podracer and Super Mario 64. Even so, this is truly my most embarrassing moment in gaming. I was facing off against Queen Gohma, the game's very first boss; Navi told me "slash her eye" and I did. This process repeated many times and I couldn't figure out why she just wouldn't die! Finally, I figured out the problem: I need to slash her eye MORE THAN ONCE! *headdesk* Yep. It took me five attempts to realize that. Five attempts to beat QUEEN GOHMA!

2) Earth 2150: The Moon Project - "You've already resurfaced, haven't you?"
I've never been that good at strategy games; the only reason I've ever played them is because that's all my older brother enjoyed / wanted to play. As such, I always tended to lose, except when we played a team match against the computer. However, this time, I had the upper hand! I destroyed his entire base and army to one single constructor, which fled into some tunnels he dug. Confident in my victory, I sent my entire army down after him. The problem was that I couldn't find him anywhere. I searched for almost an hour of non-stop searching through an intricate tunnel network when I realized... "You've resurfaced already, haven't you?" And he laughed. He laughed hard. The whole network was an elaborate trap long since prepared. His constructor had escaped through another exit, destroyed said exit, and rebuilt his entire base and army. By the time I realized this, a massive force was just about to crush my own base. I could not help but laugh at my own stupidity as he wiped the map clear of my civilization.

I'm sure I've had worse, but most of mine come from Nethack. I was on the Plane of Fire (the second-to-last level from the end), had two amulets of life saving but wasn't wearing them because I had to find the damned portal using the Amulet of Yendor. My only source of levitation (a spell) failed, dropping me in lava that I was protected from the heat of but I struggled for one too many turns before I realized that I could zap it with a wand of cold then dig my way out of. I fell in and drowned.

Nethack manufactures these by the score. They're semi-affectionately known as YASD (Yet Another Stupid Death.)

No no no, you misunderstand. I'm not bashing on the game; I'm saying that I epically failed at it once.

FFX - Everyone had zombie and regen against a boss, i got out Rikku and used her mix overdrive.. I was hoping to form some sort of bomb (i can't remeber what i mixed), but whatever i did mix with happened to give everyone 9999 health, which in turn with the zombie and regen, killed all my team. (It was along them lines, i can't remeber what i done exactly, all fights are the same in that game really).

Many a time i thrown a grenade only to have it bounce back at me off some unseen surface.

Others ifailures include: Crashing into the last fucking corner on NFS. Falling off surfaces to death. Airstriking myself. Killing vital teammates. Forgetting to save. Exposing a glitch with in turn fucks everything up (NFS, yanno when you do into slow-mo when in the air.. well i was going slow-mo, the other racers wernt). etc etc. [EXCUSE MY SPELLING ERRORS, IN A RUSH]

I only just started playing Nethack, so I'm still learning a lot. The last few attempts have improved and I've even reached the minetown level a few times.(minetown being a goal I set myself, dungeon levels are relatively easy to get) Of course, reaching minetown and actually getting IN the town are two completely different things as a recent valkyrie found out. Spawning on a bones minetown level with an opened zoo on top of the stairs in front of a ghost of one of my earlier characters. I survived because the ghost blocked the door and a wand of fire murdered all monsters. I then somehow failed to find the actual minetown entrance(searching failed a lot and the cursed stethoscope didn't help), getting killed when I accidentally hit a floating eye(the eye was at "4" when the orc I was trying to hit was at "7", I move with numpad)

Here are some other great failures.

Playing a healer -one of two classes I'm able to play- I died to a Grid Bug. I was level 1 so it's a bit less embarrassing.(not really) After a fight with a dog I had no magic left and was low on health. Not a huge problem, my cat is able to slaughter nearly everything for me at that point and usually does. It IS a problem when my cat then falls in a pit and dies and I find myself unable to escape a grid bug with only 1 health left :(
I completely forgot healers start with multiple potions which would have saved me.

I've also made the beginner mistake thinking this [http://i35.tinypic.com/nwhoc7.jpg] made me invincible. That same character later died when I found myself surrounded, nearly dead and zapping a wand I found. Turned out to be a wand of wishing and the Sceptre of Might I wished for(don't know why I didn't wish for a scroll of teleport or some form of healing first...) killed me.

Legend of Zelda Windwaker Redeads used to terrify me, so I'd try out all the different weapons, trying to kill them without getting too close. I thought I'd use the hookshot to pull the Redead over towards me and kill it before it could react.

...It worked the other way around. In hindsight, Link's terrified screams were hilarious. I'm sure mine were too.

EDIT: Oh yeah, Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine. My retarded Hua Po drew a mob of ten level one pixies who proceded to kill me. I was level thirteen.
