What have been your most memorable "epic failings" while playing video games?
I have two that really stand out:
1) Legend of Zelda : Ocarina of Time - Queen Gohma Won't Die!
Now, granted, the N64 was my first actual console; I had only played PC before then. This was also my third game for the series after Star Wars Podracer and Super Mario 64. Even so, this is truly my most embarrassing moment in gaming. I was facing off against Queen Gohma, the game's very first boss; Navi told me "slash her eye" and I did. This process repeated many times and I couldn't figure out why she just wouldn't die! Finally, I figured out the problem: I need to slash her eye MORE THAN ONCE! *headdesk* Yep. It took me five attempts to realize that. Five attempts to beat QUEEN GOHMA!
2) Earth 2150: The Moon Project - "You've already resurfaced, haven't you?"
I've never been that good at strategy games; the only reason I've ever played them is because that's all my older brother enjoyed / wanted to play. As such, I always tended to lose, except when we played a team match against the computer. However, this time, I had the upper hand! I destroyed his entire base and army to one single constructor, which fled into some tunnels he dug. Confident in my victory, I sent my entire army down after him. The problem was that I couldn't find him anywhere. I searched for almost an hour of non-stop searching through an intricate tunnel network when I realized... "You've resurfaced already, haven't you?" And he laughed. He laughed hard. The whole network was an elaborate trap long since prepared. His constructor had escaped through another exit, destroyed said exit, and rebuilt his entire base and army. By the time I realized this, a massive force was just about to crush my own base. I could not help but laugh at my own stupidity as he wiped the map clear of my civilization.
