My hero is a Broadway actor named Hugh Panaro. He's a much, MUCH better actor than about 90% of Hollywood (except for Christian Bale, who is facking oresome), and most people have never heard of him because he's never been in "Bang Bang Shoot 'Em Up Explosion Fiesta XXVI", or something like that. I first discovered him while browsing videos on YouTube of "The Phantom of the Opera"(my life's obsession), and discovered that he had played the Phantom for quite awhile. Every aspect of his performance was so jaw-droppingly amazing; he had the most beautiful voice I'd ever heard, and he packed so much emotion into his performance that I was in tears watching it on YouTube.

Last night, after flying 1,200 miles, I saw him star in a production of "Les Miserables" in Philadelphia and, once again, I was moved to tears by nearly every song he sang. Afterwards, I waited at the stage door for him, having left a message at intermission. When he finally comes out, he's swamped by fans while I'm waiting in the background. Shortly after, it gets quiet and I hear him say "Excuse me, are you Warren?" I almost crapped my pants. My hero recognized me, and broke past many other people to come talk to me. And talk we did. HE pulled ME into a hug, he signed all my stuff(personalizing it with a message instead of just scribbling his name). He willingly stayed behind after everyone else had left just to talk to me, and he never tried to edge away, or make excuses. It was almost like he was as enthralled to talk to me as I was to talk to him. He was just the most genuinely kind, talented, amazing person I had ever met.

My heroes:

Individual person: Joss Whedon. (attention: If you think that all Joss Whedon can write is one-liners, go out and rent season 5 of Buffy, and watch episode 16 ("The Body"). You don't have to see any other episodes, just watch that episode. Period.)

Group: Pixar. (the team that saved Disney from the scrap heap. Also, John Lasseter oversaw the English release of most of Miyazaki's movies, and ensured there was no editing, no Macekring, and a good degree of quality in the voice acting for the dubs, so he earns definite points.)

Fictional: Sylar... just kidding. Detective Robert Goren... also kidding... jeez, there are so many to choose from... ah, what the heck, I'll choose The Imp. The ZP mascot. Throughout the archive of Yahtzee's videos, the Imp has had a thousand different jobs (even an action movie career), some of which looked nasty but some of which were awesome, he can take a lot of punishment, beat up stuff (he bit Jill Valentine's head off, and he's swallowed several other characters whole, if I remember), and he's adorable to boot. I'd love to be the Imp, although it means putting up with Yahtzee face to face.

Gonna have to also say Hunter S. Thompson, as he taught me to not only question different things, but to blatantly tell it like it is, no filter, no editing, just flat out Gonzo

Individual: Either Warren Spector or John Romero. I respect both to no end, the latter did make Daikatana but I just brush that away and point at Doom and Quake.

Group: JAM Project. A band dedicated to creating bombastic and over the top anime theme songs. How they can take their jobs so darn seriously is beyond me when they sing about how awesome a giant robot is.

Fictional: Beyond the Grave. Come on people, he's a Mobster Zombie Cowboy with a Coffin filled with military grade weapons. Plus he does anime poses in the middle of gunfights. Too damn awesome.

Well, Rambo has always been my hero, since I was a little child. I was 2 years old, and I used to imitate him.

But out of real people, I'd say my grandfather, who was Lieutenant-Colonel in the Russian army, during WWII. He was my most beloved relative, even compared to my mother and father. I miss him.

Rock Lee. I don't watch the show anymore, but when I was undergoing chemotherapy I would think of him when times were tough and I would draw strength from him.

Tanthalos Half Elven form the Dragonlance series, I can relate to him a great deal even when he becomes a colossal moron in the later section of the series.
Amen. (It's Tanthalas, but I'm just picking nits.)

Also - Serj Tankian, former frontman for System of a Down. I don't know of anyone else who speaks out so eloquently through music on political issues in this day and age.

My dad just came back from my grandfather's house. The amazing thing about this is, it's my mom's dad that he went to help. The old guy just got back from the hospital and has been told to take it easy. Dad did the whole 3 1/2 hour drive all the way there and did some yard work and helped grandma out a bit too, then drove all the way back. I think dad was actually called to work around there, but he still took time out of his busy schedule today and tired himself all the way until about 11:30pm just to take a load of of grandpa.
