A slightly-above-average, fairly well put together FPS. The single player campaign was pretty good (I had absolutely no expectations at all for this game when it came out, mind you) and was wholly entertaining and the Spec-Ops missions were fun...for a while. I wish IW would stop being so fucking lazy and implement real cooperative play already.

As for the multiplayer...eugh. Stay away. Stay far, far away from that garbage. MW2 has the worst community of any game I've ever played, hands-down. The multiplayer is horridly unbalanced, the spawns are the most horrid things ever and the perks are stupidly overpowered and (in the case of the Nuke after people figured out how to get it easily) game-breaking.

SP: Decent. But the characters had no personality. There was a tough but loving commander, lots and lots and lots of mooks, and two people whose only trait is evil.

MP: Fuck you.

At first I thought it was meh, campaign was frustrating at first because I haven't played MW 1 in over a year. Then I played the multiplayer, fuck I hated it!!!!!!!!! Being constantly killed by killstreaks led me to believe that the multiplayer was butchered, broken, and completely imbalanced!

Then I played some normal Domination and TD matches with friends and I grew to love it.

I just beat MW 2 on Veteran in one sitting, took me about 7 hours but fuck it was fun despite all the frustration.

So yeah, I do think it's a great game, but it has serious flaws such as those damn killstreaks that I believe ruin the MP, and as so many people stated the campaign is way too fucking short for $60, even if we do keep playing multiplayer. And I also wish it had a conclusive ending rather than a "next time!".

I just think that everything think Infinity Ward was trying to do with Call of Duty MOD 2 was already done so much better by valve. FPS's like counter strike, class-based gameplay like TF2, and co-op play like l4d and l4d2 all just seem so much more fun from good old Valve. Plus, I didn't quite understand why they decided to make the game take itself so seriously and then have such an arcade-like multiplayer. They made a great game, but there are greater games out there (In Gabe we trust).

It was a bit of a cash in on Infinity Ward's part. Yeah, the games fun, but IW killed what made the first game so good--a shocking story that felt all too plausible, a fresh take on multiplayer, the terror of knowing that one or two bullets could and would take you down... I still like MW2, but I hope that the inevitable third installment returns to the CoD4 style, namely removing akimbos, writing a story which makes sense, and not overdoing the shock value (seriously, killing of the player character in CoD4 was brilliant, but how many times can you really do that before it just gets really old and predictable?), and changing up the multiplayer just a little bit more than they did--in my opinion, there really wasn't all that much new stuff except for the maps, and even some of those felt a little bit familiar.

The games unadulterated bit of genius fun is Spec Ops. I love me some coop games, and I also enjoy the bite sized gameplay that favors getting a better time or a cleaner run to trying to decipher the story. It's all of the awesome set piece action we've come to expect from the Call of Duty brand, wrapped up in an easy to access and genuinely fun mode that allows players to only play the good bits of the game as many times as they want.

In summary, multiplayer is the same old stuff it's always been, single player is incoherent, but fun to play, and Spec Ops is really enjoyable.

Most overrated game of all time with an extremely short campaign and unbalanced multiplayer that clearly was never tested during developement. No idea why everyone acts like it's the pinnacle of FPS.

Fun but overhyped
used to play cod 4 alot but i've since grown tired of shooting people 14,473 times mw2 is more of the same but with killstreaks that unbalance the game and f*** it up. campaign a bit of a joke, spec ops good with friend but again get repetitive

MW2 is very good. Finely tuned multiplayer an excellent single player campaign. That being said, it's no surprise that the game is this good. COMPANIES HAVE BEEN MAKING THE SAME DAMN THING FOR OVER A DECADE, so at least someone finally got it right.

when it's fun, it's REALLY fun, but when it's bad, it's REALLY bad

due to campers, noobtubers, akimbo modellers/rangers'. It's usually bad (about 95% of the time)
leaving only 5% of matches being actually fun. considering how quick matches tend to be, the amount of shit games that are played compared to the amount of good games doesn't make playing the game worth it. that's why I bough MAG, much much more fun.

Pros:
-Solid gameplay, as always
-Lovable characters (except Shepherd)
-Amazing online (I feel original with this last pro)
-Veteran difficulty is easier

Cons:
-Campaign is TOO SHORT, I swear, Infinity Ward had better make the next installment in the form of DLC, just to wrap up the whole Makarov affair.

I actually like it. All of it. I enjoyed the campaign, enough to do it again which is very uncommon for me to do. I also like the multiplayer so I think it's a good game. I don't see why nobody else does.

It's extremely unbalanced. In a game where someone can pilot a harrier missile, spawn-rape with a helicopter, and drop a nuke on the enemy, NOTHING is overpowered.

Campaign was confusing and made no sense, on top of not being long enough.

I stay away from Spec Ops because it's not all that great to me although if I have a friend then it can get hilarious.

I only play the multiplayer if a few of my friends are going to play with me. Even then, it's hard to get into a lobby and the more people you have, the harder it gets. I've played on 360, PS3, and PC and all of them take forever to get into a game but the 360 seemed to take twice as long for some reason, the PS3 never has anyone play certain game types (like Ground War, from what I've experienced), and the PC always sticks you into a game that already started giving you no time to get ready and leaving you at a general disadvantage.

It's pretty good.

I may be the only person who like the campaign and the story. Sure, it felt over the top, but it's entertaining. Plus the American levels I've found worth going back to.

Spec-Ops, while a good idea on paper, is shot to hell when you can't join a random lobby. Maybe it's just me, but I can never get a friend to play spec-ops. They always want to play multiplayer.

Multiplayer...well it's really up to how good you are at FPS to judge the fun factor.

(also, to everyone that says MW2 isn't realistic, realistic warfare is driving in a Humvee for awhile and Maybe shooting at some retards that can't shoot a gun, not riding in the back of a truck while a Helicopter shoots missiles at you and the busy freeway...just saying)

Single player:

Meh. It would be fun if it was longer and if Sergeant Foley would shut the fuck up.

Spec Ops:

Meh. Not having someone to play with limits the fun factor.

Multiplayer:

Meh. Overrated, unbalanced, and the true reason why microphones should be banned.
