A Hermit's Cave
Quick thought came to me:

If you could participate in a (historical) war, which one would it be, which side would you be on, why and why (respectively)?

(You may take the place of historical figures if you reckon you could do a better job... though in many cases you probably could.)

And now that I think on it... I honestly don't know:

Second Punic War - Roman (kinda my thing, that)
German Wars of Unification - Prussian (doubt I'd be any better than von Blumenthal, but I can dream)
War of Spanish Succession - British/HRE (being aide-de-camp to Churchill/von Savoy would be kinda cool)

Battle of Thermopylae, on the Greek/Spartan side. Sure its a losing battle, but using good defensive tactics to give one last F*** YOU to a massive enemy army while your buddies prepare to get revenge elsewhere would be glorious.

As for things I'd do different. They had the supplies nearby to build a few crude catapults, raining grapeshot down on their heads would have been desirable.

Battle of Britain- England 1940- Commonwealth side. Preferrably a Spitfire squadron so I get to focus on the German escort fighters.

Spanish Civil War - Republican Army, they did after all hire thousands of foreign volunteers. Plus, I'd get to fight fascists... even if they did win the war eventually.

Historically speaking, I'd likely join the Americans in the first 'Gulf War'. Why? Because I wouldn't die, and F15-E Strike Eagles are like waffles.

Second Punic War, Carthage, to have served under Hannibal at Trebia, Lake Trasimene and Cannae.

Second Sino-Japanese War, Japan, to participate in both the Battle of Nanjing and what followed. I'm of Chinese descent and a big Japanophile yet neither country has ever really faced up to the Rape of Nanjing.

St. Nazaire Raid, Allies, c'mon. Tell me, with a straight face, you wouldn't want to take part in the greatest raid of them all, given the chance.

The War of 1812. Sure we weren't technically "Canada" yet, but we still won a war against the United States. :p

Being a musketeer on the Oda side at the Battle of Nagashino.

Or being on the Allied forces side of the Battle of Chi Bi and seeing Cao Cao's fleet ablaze!

...yeh I play a lot of Koei games.

I guess the first thing that comes to mind would be Operation Overlord on the US side in WWII. It's pretty much the only battle I've seen in movies that spoke for itself.

Battle of Stalingrad, Russian side (but not in the Russian army)

Urban combat in a ruined city? Fuck yeah.

EDIT: If a whole war, clearly WWII. Give me a BAR and constant supply of ammo, I don't care which Allied power I'm fighting for. But I'd prefer to be at the Battle of Stalingrad.

I'd fight the Anglo-Zanzibar war.
As a Royal Marine on the side of the British, obviously.

Everyone else gets to spend time enjoying the mud and starvation and death, with next to no training.

I get to sit on a boat watching us shell the shit out of an Island for fourty minutes.
War's over after that.

The Cold War. The best kind of fight is the one that never happened.

...plus I'd get to be a super spy, and that's awesome.

The Keyblade War
The more keyblade wielders there are in one area fight against each other, the more choatic the battle would seem. Seriously, it only took 5 of them (2 against 3)and I was jumping up and down waiting for the next game.
