A good one.

Want me to go into detail? One where theres lots of classes but not too many so its blinding. Only 4 races but you can completely customize these and all 4 are against each other. You can hire Mercenaries to help you with certain quests if you cant find anyone to quest with and a huge plotline which goes through all the time your playing. Also its got to make you sound like an everyday soldier not a hero. Unless you won some sort of pvp tournament in game.
yes, and this huge underlying plot would just keep going and going...that would make it like a book, you need to keep playing and playing to know the end.

Mine would be a cowboy/Wild West themed setting with an action bent and a quick-draw system. Also, fewer RPG elements. In fact, just make it an MMO action game.

I'm excited about this. Viva la revolution.

I really like Tabula Rasa. Too bad Garriot went all space happy. World of Warcraft is pretty much the standard for MMORPGs, it has a broad appeal, and seems in depth while still being manageable. There are some F2P MMO's out there that I won't mention because I WILL NOT give them free publicity, that would be great if they were P2P and didn't have game unbalancing cash shops (where you can buy in game items with real world money). Personally, I think it would be difficult to do a whole lot better than WoW. Not saying that it's perfect, by any means, but it's a reasonably well made game that's fun to play, and really, what more is there?

Zombie Survival MMO in the vain of World War Z and the Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks or The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman.

That is all.

For an MMO to be ideal by my standards, it would need to:
*Have real-time combat.
*Be an FPS set in the 20th century.
*Lack a leveling system.
*Focus on an ongoing war between two factions rather than any one person's exploits. Also, an extra faction for people that either desert or are kicked out of (somehow) their faction.
*Make the player feel like a cog in the war machine, rather than anyone particularly special.
*Contain stealth elements that focus on a character's ability to stay hidden through camouflage and sticking to the shadows rather than magic spells that make you invisible or whatever.
*Have extremely versatile character creation, but make sure the changes can be noticed. Like City of Heroes.
*Give the option for first or third person gameplay.

Unfortunately, this will probably never happen.
Maybe this is the game:

I also dislike leveling systems. In todays MMOs & RPGs there are always tons of stupid skills to research. Let the player provide the skills instead.
I would also like to see big dragons in an MMO - that players should climb in order to kill it. That would be awesome :)

First one to mention WOW gets my malice and hate.

OP- First person shooter persistant world? Planetide for sure
Open ended sandbox fun with constantly developing content? Ultima Online for sure
The best mmorpg ever made? SWG for sure :p

no need to create a mythical mmo when there are already perfect ones out ther

to be honest I didn't care for SWG. Huge fan of Ultima online though, and I never played Planetide.

Bounty Hunters. Huntin' bounties.
The more bounties a player rakes in, the higher their bounty? Simple, yet it could really work...that game would have an environment just like EVE, 'cept with even more betrayl.

Also...

I'm Captain Kirk!!!

no leveling systems, have it be more like oblivion, were you train the skills you use, the game is set all across europe, asia, and northern africa, in the 14th century, the combat is like oblivion, and character customization (like physical features, is from sr2, and he can run around and jump and shit like from mirrors edge, and no raids, there will be faction for all the countries, and is extremely open ended, each player is a normal person no super hero that can kill 1000000 enemies, a seasoned soldier will destroy a simple peasant, but you could choose to try to become nobility, or a lowly thief that works his way up from petty crimes to a a master thief,(this would take months of even years) or you could join the army and get a paid salary ect, your character would train skills like, acrobatics, agility, swordsmanship, climbing, ect. every character would have voice acting, a very clear voice system(for chatting) NO player made guilds, there would be crafting guilds tho, and a thieves guild. when you die your items are buried in your grave and your next character is an relative to the other character, and they have to rob your grave,

Guild Wars, but with regular content updates, full hero parties, no PvE/PvP split, no consumables, and constant drastic skill rebalancing to keep the meta (both PvE and PvP) healthy. Also, titles and title emotes removed. Tonics removed. New expansions.

For that matter, I'd love to have the engine and dev tools for Guild Wars; it'd be great to make a game using that engine.

One that is easy to get into. User friendly, doesn't have a lot of grinding, but does have a ton of team play involved. One with a lot of side goodies, but not so much as to make you frustrated and consume all of your time. One that wont steal your life away.

EDIT: Not WoW

OOH! I was thinking about this not so long ago (a week ago or so)

Well first of all: -Runescape-type leveling, but MORE skills.
- Free PvP, you can attack anyone anywhere (cities would be no-weapon zones though)
- Free market system. No basic shops, only people who collect stuff, and sell them. You could put them into a weapon shop for example, and name your price.
- You could sneak up behind anyone and assassinate them in one blow. In 3rd person camera, you couldn't see behind you (only the environment would be seen) monsters, other players would fade away. You could however hear the environment (footsteps, branches etc.)
- Assassin's Creed-style freerunning/climbing), although you would fall alot in the beginning.
- No one click-combat, you'd have to learn combos etc. Kinda like Prince of Persia's secondary weapon system though. (speed, power, attack range and such would be variables)
- Bows and such would make YOU actually aim.
- Being able to loot players you've killed, but in normal zones you only get gold, in special PvP-zones, you can loot their equipment. (you don't lose anything in normal zones if you die by another player.)
- When you die, you can get rescued by other players, you'd heal slowly if no-one comes. maybe something like 1 minute to get up on your feet, and unable to use your potions for x minutes, powerful potions being unusable for a longer time. You'd also heal at a more realistic rate, when you're really low on health you heal slower.

Umm I could go on and on... But I'll let it be atleast for now.

One that had more to it than just combat grinding. Think of the potential Star Wars Galaxies had at launch, and then imagine it turned into realized potential. Minus the bugs and crap, too.
