Your insane next-gen console wish?

This seems more than likely to never happen. I know that.

All the same, I wish the new generation of video game consoles coming out were dedicated solely to single-player, on-screen multiplayer or local area network multiplayer. Like the old Super NES or PS1, but with the processing power and HD graphics capability and whatnot from the current generation. One where online multiplayer and DLC were non-existent. Just a box that does nothing but play the video game discs (or cards or flash drives or whatever) designed for it. Or, at most, just video games and current-popular-format movies.

I would be perfectly happy if that were a thing that could happen these days. I don't know when or why this became an insane wish. Yet, right now my Xbox 360 feels like an awesome flashlight that's also a swell can-opener.

Anyway, what's your insane next-gen wish?

Personally, I want them to fuck off with all this socializing and this idea that the console is now a multimedia centre.

I play games 'cos I don't like being around people, so my social skills aren't exactly great but Sony and Microsoft want me to be all buddy buddy with every Tom, Dick and Harry in a 500 mile radius?

yes, I actually get connected with people in France and I live near Liverpool in the UK ... Liverpool is near Ireland, for those who aren't so knowledgeable about the UK cities.

As for the multimedia aspect, if I wanted to watch youtube I would go on my computer or phone. If I wanted netflix ... I would never want nextflix, hulu or any other similar service. If I wanted to upload pics, music or video it certainly wouldn't be to my console.

I also don't want a touch screen on my PS4 with a huge blue bar on it ... I'd rather have the battery life.

For the WiiU to not be a total dead duck but be something akin to the Wii, IE for western AAAs to no port their FPS/3rdPS meaning other genres get a chance to come to the forefront.

If that rumor about EA not porting their frostbyte 3 games to the WiiU is true then we are half there, only now we need Ninty / niche 3rd parties to put out some games.

My dream for the WiiU or any console is for Rail Shooters to make a comeback, as modern shooters including Rail shooters like Child of Eden are mostly about shooting with while the gameplay that Sin & Punishment 2/ Panzer Dragoon Orta has is crying out to be revisited.

Also for all the handheld Japanese genres come to the console, like TRPG, Dungeon Crawlers, Persona, oh and for CAVE to make shmups that utilizes the touchpad like their iphone shmups do.

I'd rather have a pad with a wire like the 360 pad gives us the option of buying, that way it isn't useless for any fast paced games like fighters and other genres that need zero lag.

Infact the PS4 with it's cloud has me worried that all those genres I mentioned above will be unplayable.

For Microsoft to stop all of the stupid bullshit they've been doing with the 360 and make a consumer and developer friendly system. No more subscription for basic online functionality, no more ridiculous and expensive certification process for patches, no more fucking ads, no more marketplace that's extremely unfriendly towards indie developers, and no more requiring developers to pay obscene amounts for advertising to get any promotion on your service.

I'm not worried that Microsoft is going to introduce some radical new bullshit like an always-on console. I'm just worried that Microsoft is going to do all the same bullshit that they've been doing.

Also, although this one is actually pretty reasonable, I want Nintendo to give me a reason to own a WiiU. There's not a single game on the system that actually makes me want to buy the thing. My fingers are crossed for E3, and let's hope they can deliver.

For the next Xbox or PS4, let us import mods onto the console! Maybe like the steam system, you can upload mods onto a profile on PSN or XBL and then people can download them from PS store or XBL for the game. That'd sell a system for me.
And (for PS4 at least) make it easier to write a message. The current system is annoying, especially when mid-game (for multiplayer when you can't pause)

The ability to be able to play all my old X-box and 360 games on the new X-box, and all my old PlayStation (every model PlayStation) games on the PS4. One can dream, I suppose.

-For region-locking to be totally abandoned and all consoles made region-free. Kindof a stretch, since the WiiU already goes against that practice, but it's still something I'd really like to see.

-For Nintendo to stop making "Super Mario 2,330: New One that's Just Like the Old Ones" or "Legend of Zelda 1,547: Electric Triforce Boogaloo" and make a new Star Fox or F-Zero or *insert criminally forgotten Nintendo franchise here* game. Ya' know, something that would genuinely make me want a WiiU.

-More emphasis on gaming consoles being, well, gaming consoles. I don't need Netflix and Hulu and Facebook and all that guff on my video game console. I mean, okay, I don't mind that they're there... as long as I have a reason to use my console (like, say, actual games I'd like to play) over just using my laptop, which is usually much easier to use and has more actual games I like to play right now.

For the Microsoft and Sony stores to better implement sales. They don't need to be on Steam's level, but something approaching that would be nice. It's stupid that a game I can buy for twenty at retail still costs 50-60 online.

I really hate social media these days. Not so much because it's bad in itself, but because everyone I know will stop in the midst of something to check their SMS messages, facebook wall, and Twitter feed no matter what. I think this is only going to make it worse. The last thing I want in the middle of a fast-paced game is people pulling up their social media.

When you plug in a PS3 controller to the USB port, it IS a wired controller. Does it still lag?

Also agreed. All I want is what I'm sure most gamers want: to be able to play some fucking games! If I wanna network or what the fuck ever, I have a PC, a laptop, a tablet, a media player (that's capable of nothing short of making me dinner), and a phone to take care of all that. I just wanna come home after a day at the office, slap a game in my system, and play it. Is that really too much to ask these days?

Although I will admit, Xbox Live and its ilk has allowed me make many an awesome friend.

Backwards compatibility is probably the only thing actually (particularly PS2!). As long as prices aren't insane the PS4 is looking pretty sweet at the moment. The worst thing people complain about is it has an ultimately optional feature that they're not interested in

High prices combined with pure gaming focus.

A $700 console designed to just play games in a traditional fashion would be much more attractive to me (if executed properly) than a $350 console that follows the normal trend.

My insane wish would be that all consoles from now on are backwards compatible -or at least emulate- every single game their predecessors could play. Not all that difficult, but insane by the console maker's ideals so it counts.

Same here, I get the hardware can have issues, but in this day and age, I don't buy that it couldn't emulate off the disc or something. A PC can do it, mine in particular can and it's nowhere near as powerful as the PS4 will be.

Like others, I wish they had backwards compatibility, but I think that's too insane ^.^
