Backwards compatibility would work like on PC if the new system was just an upgrade of the old technology, but more often than not the new system is a whole new technology which requires different type of hardware. Making the PS4 backwards compatible to PS3 would be like making compact disc players backwards compatible with record players. That's why it's much more common to see the game developer make a digital copy or whole new (usually flawed) remake of the games instead.chozo_hybrid said:
With that said, since disc seems not to be disappearing anytime soon, it wouldn't be hard for the reader to at least register an older game disc and let the owner download a digital copy of the game for free (or at least very little.) Course that means more developers need to convert their games into digital, which they're only going to do if that becomes profitable to them. So yeah... insane wish.
I don't want a stupid social media button, I don't want motion control, I want to use a 360 controller on my PS3. I don't want to pay to play my games online and I don't want to be bombarded by ads for shit that I don't care about. Hell, I don't want ads for stuff that's not games. It is nice having Netflix on the PS3, though, because it's convenient and out of the way when I'm not using it so that can stay. And I don't want a friggin screen or touch pad crap on my controller, the traditional controllers have worked fine for decades why change them to something that's no more than gimmicky bullcrap?

Or just drop the whole console thing, and have everything for PC. NO social media stuff built in, I'd like a choice of Keyboard+ Mouse, or gamepad for genres that suit it. (And obviously for specialist gamers, there's various types of Steering Wheels, pedals, flight sticks, fighting game controllers etc) No motion sensors, or 3D please.

I would like, maybe not for this coming generation but the one after it, for all companies to fuck off with the idea that a gaming console should be used for multimedia and social networking. For multimedia, TVs are going to get there first and don't have to worry about playing games on the side, and social networking, I am already annoyed enough about it inflitrating every aspect of the internet slowly and shouldn't have to worry about my PS4 posting things to Facebook. I have Facebook basically as a means of communication. I want nothing else to do with it, and I don't want anything else to be connected to it. It would be nice if I can just opt out of Facebook integration, but I'm betting you'll have to do some sort of similar bullshit to take screenshots or video.
Like many of you, I wish for JUST A GAMING CONSOLE, and not a smartphone-toaster-cablebox with useless motion controls attached. I didn't mind these things when I could ignore them, now i am being told the console won't work unless I use Kinect/Move/Eyetoy nonsense? Screw that shit. But that's how it is, which is why my wish is impossible.
The worse part is this is a clear sign of desperation. The industry is a fat, spoiled, bloated child that cannot support itself under it's own weight. It needs the tablet/casual crowd; it needs grandmother and the family dog playing the games to in order just to break even now. All of which is basically spelling out the crash we all know is coming.

Well, I want a pure gaming console, like the rest of you. Likewise, I want it to be fucking cheap right out the pen.

As for the consoles themselves, I still kinda want an "omni-console" that can play any game ever as long as you have a ROM or the original game itself. Also, full digital downloads for every game ever.

More processing power, and maybe mod support assuming the mods go through some sort of minor easy certification.
Maybe also add mouse and keyboard support so there'd be no reason to bother with PCs at all. It will mostly kill piracy while we're at it.

After reading this thread, I want a world where gamers can talk about gaming without whining and complaining over every little thing.

"I'm so jealous game X you have for ps2" "are you kidding? You have game Y for game cube!" "super smash bros. 4 player. No weapons" "Halo 2. Human weapons only. No shields.
