Well, here we go.

Got to have that speed if you want 'em torrents.
Net speed certainly helps, but your torrent d/l time isn't entirely dependent on it. A well built machine can make up for quite a bit. My current net is crap, compared to the high speed cable I had before I moved. I can still d/l 1gig or more fairly quickly.

A slow 120kb/sec download rate. Which is about 1/10th of what my ADSL connection should provide. Probably time to see whether a 4G mobile broadband connection can provide greater speeds and equal stability. I doubt it.
Are you sure you're not just confusing bits and bytes?

There are 8 bits (b) to a byte (B).
If your ADSL gives you 1 mbps (they always measure in bits), that means your maximum download speed (always measured in Bytes) will be 125KB/s (1000/8 = 125).
Yep, I nominally have a 10Mbps connection (it's not even possible to get a 1Mbps connection here any more, the lowest one can go is 2 Mbps). In spite of living in a larger city, I must be very far from the central or something, which is why I'm looking to go wireless.

Ping is a bit inaccurate, given I get less to game servers nearby, but this is my result:

Speed is generally unstable as all hell, I'll frequently get 500+ downloading from Steam. :/
Connection is usually fine, unless it's raining. I think there's an exposed cable somewhere along the line.

I'm with Kingston Communications, a company that runs the monopoly on Hull's internet service. It is the only city in the UK with this system, and it fucking sucks. KCom is notoriously unreliable, the internet tends to slow right down, the phone lines are occasionally really faint, and the router they send you is fucking broken (I've received three in my life time, and they all have had some kind of fault that necessitated buying a better router).

Well, time to go to speedtest again I guess.

That's my internet speed, slower than 56% of my country. But compared to what I've seen in this thread, I think it's pretty good.

I don't think that BT is the problem OP tbh, normal broadband is shit in most areas outside the cities in all of the UK regardless of ISP. (used to be with sky and had similar shitty speeds)

Its likely more to do with the quality and age of the phone lines going to our houses as well as the relative distance between you and the street and main exchanges.

If you are lucky enough to be in a infinity area then you get speeds like this, I struck lucky on a couple of accounts as my house is literally 200m away from the street exchange and less than a mile from the main BT exchange for the whole area.

Gotta love my quality speeds maxes out at around 350kb/s. Its usable though for most basic internet needs though if i do want to download a game over steam it usually means leaving the computer on overnight.

I'm using BT, and we have to reset our router about half a dozen times a day. BT are officially the worst ISP ever.
