So I recently finished Dead Island. Pretty okay game despite it's faults. At least until you get to the ending...

-SPOILERS-

It's a complete mess gameplay wise. I get into a shootout with a guy on the roof despite having a meelee weapon character. At one point zombies just swarm your ass while you're trying to line up shoots against the boss. Then you have to fight a Zombie that straight up ignores when it's damaged and slaps the shit out of you.

This last 10 minutes of the game devolved into rage fueled random button mashing. By the time I saw the ending credits, all my sense of accomplishment had been taken away and I just yelled "Glad that shit's over" before tossing my controller aside and turning off the console.

Here's my question. Have you ever beaten a game or accomplished something in game then were just glad it was over rather than feel good about it?

Borderlands. The second half of the game is shit.

I actually shouted a bit at my monitor during the mountain climb at the end, I haven't done that in many many many years. It was just so shit...
The sheer length and lack of any sort of vendor really made that section a real slog for me.

The Circle Tower and Fade portions in Dragon Age.

My answer shall forever be Sonic '06. By god, pretty much that whole game was one hell of an annoying slog to force myself through.

I don't generally have games that cause exasperations like this or react to them like that anyway. My reaction to finishing up enemies and finding suddenly more would be the frantic Bruce Campbell-ism of back-pedding fast and shooting them.

Perhaps Doom is guilty of this? Nobody has more complicated and lengthy demon deathtraps, I think.

Oh, god. This. So much this. Why the hell did BioWare fail so miserably with the Fade? They could have made it anything they wanted, a dream realm beyond our wildest imaginations, and instead it was just a bunch of floating rocks with a washed out filter. Oh, and then they love to separate you from your party, which causes a genre shift to a shitty action game. And it's long. And the circle tower is just a bunch of purple/blue stone.

In fact, that section is largely why I haven't replayed Dragon Age: Origins approximately 5 times as much.

The whole Poseidon stage in God of War I, especially the water areas.

I was so done by the time I got to the Hades part, that part was way more fun, and the swimming was stupid and frustrating as hell.

And the part where you had to drag a cage up an incline with a soldier in it, I wanted to kill him by the time I got to the room.

I have to agree, this is probably THE most boring section in the entire game. At least they give you craploads of stat increases to compensate.

This is also probably the biggest reason that I do not play fps games. Every single time get to playing an fps, I keep getting to section after section of "goddamn, about time I made it through that." It just isn't fun to keep doing that again and again and again. The only fps I ever have and probably ever will enjoy is Halo, because I never actually had that problem. Even when I played on Legendary.

But yeah. Fps games. Fuck those.

Dear God this. Nothing but an irritating slog that I'd usually try and get through first so it was out of the way and I could go and find me a paragon in peace.

OT: In Skyrim any of the missions that involved Dwarven ruins often just felt like a slow slog. But that's just me.

Those were the ONLY reason I didn't use the Skip Fade mod. Those bonuses by themselves made that section ALMOST bearable.

This wasn't the first time they pulled something like this, there was a similar section in their Hordes of the Underdark near the end but it didn't drag out as long as the fade did. And yes the separating of the party was so much fun with my (very) squishy archers/mages.

At least you have the option to skip it. :p Being a ps3 user, I have to slog through the fade whether I like it or not. °?°

That bloody Pac Man bit in Jak 3. Great game, except for that mission (and a few others that I'm probably forgetting. The pac man one was the big one though.)
Another would be the torture sequences in MGS one and Peace Walker. They don't even classify as gameplay, it's just a ploy to make you hand cramp up and have Playstations smashed.

I would probably have felt that way about Mindjack, if I actually bothered finishing the last stages before getting rid of it. It wasn't even fun; I had already forced myself through most of it, but the final parts were so ungodly frustrating that I gave up; not because of the games difficulty, but rather because of how horribly flawed it is. The game mechanics (especially mindhacking) and even regular cover-shooting is so poorly done that it makes it near-impossible to sit through, especially when the player is always put at a huge disadvantage in every stage; enemies are put in extremely hard-to-hit places, and generally placed in areas where you can't use your mindhacking powers on them, so you can't use them for any help to recover, and you barely get any cover to hide behind, constantly being held under fire from gun-turrets and missile launchers while you're armed with the starting pistol and...

... just... No. There is so much wrong with the general mechanics of the game, I could go on for hours. You really have to play it yourself to understand how it works. Or doesn't work, rather.

Trauma Center: Under the knife. Oh, I didn't finish the game, I doubt I was even close at all. I just decided to finish one operation that was kicking my ass and then I just stopped.

OH GOD, Trauma Center... The titular mission just had me go "Nope, fuck this. I'm done!"

Found it for £9 and decided to go for it. The very limited gameplay videos of the game looked like it was pretty fun.

It wasn't.
Every damn minute of the game I just wanted it to end. Never been so happy about getting a platinum trophy so I could turn off the game for good.
