My mom isn't into video games, but she can still kick my a** at Pac-Man, the only game she's ever really liked.

For the most part my mom does stuff like Farmville, but in the days of DOS she would play a game called Magic Pockets, as well as Loom and Tetris. That's all I know her to play.

I dunno, my mum sometimes takes it in turns (Deaths or levels) with me on Battlefield 3 or Halo Reach. She can't contend with online opponents or anything more than easy bots.
Funny story on my mate's mum, though, I was round at my mate's house and I heard her growling angrily in the kitchen. I went in and she was playing secret of monkey island, the first one. She was stuck on the part on the island where you have to get down the canyon, and was like: "I CAN'T FUCKING DO IT!" So I meekly came in and was like: "You, um, have to go get the rope from the cannon to get down to the ledge." She gave me £3 for that. So that was nice.

My mom played a mean lui kang on mortal kombat, plus she figured out how you can beat shoa khan by hitting him with those fireballs nonstop. She also got really good at gran turismo 2. Those were good times.. :)

My ***** of a mother (who I've been trying to get OUT of my life for the past 8 years) is so bland and boring she only plays Freecell, Solitare or Mahjong...

I'm not sure my mum gets my gaming habit. She sure as hell doesn't try. Same with my dad. I suppose it's cause my parents were pretty well already grown up by the time computer games started to get big.

Still, its a bit of a bugger . . .

My mom never got into gaming, but I've tried to introduce it to her. The first time she held my controller a few minutes into a game the controller vibrated. My mom screamed and dropped it. I laughed very hard.

My mom bought a Nintendo for my cousin ... And, really, she lived in the basement until a few years ago when she started laptop gaming. My cousin never got the Nintendo... Neither did I, she wouldn't even let us kids have turns. We had to watch. We had Pong and a couple others before it, as well.

+1 To the person who said their mom's been gaming since before many posters were born. Same.

My mum isn't particularly into gaming though she's apparently a Bioshock fangirl like me even if she doesn't really understand what the story is.
"Is that the one with the underwater city and the Daddies and you save the little girls? And there's that insufferable blonde ***** in the second one?"

She loves how Portal plays too, even though GlaDos seems to grate on her and she calls her Gladys instead... but she made a replica of the infamous cake once, so~
Nonetheless, it's always nice for her to kinda get it, it's not the same as my dad who genuinely loved gaming but it's the thought that counts, right?

Oh and watching me play Saints Row: The Third was apparently one of the funniest things she'd seen, so. Awesome.

I played EQ, EQ2 and WoW with my mom, and soon TOR. We've been playing together (my brother included) through various MMOs for about 11 years now. We were lucky enough to find ourselves some good raiding guilds through EQ and WoW.

She's a good enough healer, but anything that requires coordination quickly became an issue for her. In Naxx, for instance, I would have to 2 box the "Safety Dance." She was just all around incapable of doing it. After seeing gameplay of the space combat in TOR, she immediately said that she would have to either let me do it for her, or just crew with me in my ship, if at all possible. I really want to watch her give it a go, personally. Now that would just be good entertainment.

My mom got me into gaming. When we got our first system (NES), she would play The Little Mermaid for hours. I would feel like playing too, except she was so obsessed with it, she would never let me play at all. She would throw a fit whenever she hit the Game Over screen. Then she realized how wrong this look and stopped playing...forever.

However, she used to give me games as X mas gifts, the best one she gave me was my first FF: FFVIII. I had never heard of the series and I suppose it was my first official RPG (I don't count Pokemon, I don't know why). Ironically, I loved it so much, it was the first game I became obsessed about...much to her regret.

Yep, she created the monster.

I don't have any funny stories with my mom, but I still remember dad in total awe when he saw how realistic the waves looked in Age of Mythology (to be fair, it was when the game was still new).

My mother cannot tell the difference between Call of Duty, Minecraft, or The Elder Scrolls. She played a little bit of Angry Birds on her phone, but never really enjoyed it, just used it to pass time when there was nothing else to do. The one game she did like was Portal. She loved GLaDOS, and after beating the first game she beat the second of her own accord. However, she holds Portal as the single exception to gaming as a medium in which "all you do is run around shooting people." And despite her many hours playing Portal (and they were many, she was fairly slow at solving puzzles) she never got the hang of using the two 360 analog sticks. They take time for most people to get used to, but I have yet to see any person over 40 get used to using them.

Anyways, that's my mother and gaming. It was kind of long, but I'm supposed to be doing a Social Studies paper right now.

My mum plays ravenholm on Facebook nowadays. She talks my ear off about how she thought games were mindless but your really thinking a lot, and how she read online games relieve stress yada yada yada...

This is the same woman who threw my ps2 into the backyard in a fit of rage when I was a boy.

My mom hardly plays games. Certain Wii games like Wii Fit or Just Dance every once in a while, but rarely anything else.

I guess our best was when we got her to play Wii Goldeneye, and she couldn't do anything but stare at the ground and walk in circles, since FPSs were that hard for her.

My little brother convinced our mom to try MW2 and Halo. She thought the controls were confusing and called it "stupid." Classic mom...
You should probably try some other games, then. If the first thing you try to introduce someone into gaming with is a shooter, you're most definitely doing it wrong.

OT: My mother refuses to even touch a video game. I have no idea why, but eh, doesn't bother me.

To be honest, my mum had a 1970's superhoover blow up in her face in first use (in the 70's), so she's a bit wary of technology. But she bought me a pc at age 11 because I had crap handwriting and she thought I could type up school reports on it at the time and use the internet for homework (not chatting to chicks on MSN that weren't interested in me lol). This was like 1997 so she bought a machine (p166 with 16 megabytes of ram) that could handle most games. So although I had played Sonic and Mario, really my mum got me into gaming by accident. Much as that may annoy her lol.
