The end of the Holly Summers boss fight in No More Heroes.
You get to see her and Travis build up an emotional bond in the short time that they know each other, she gives a sweet smile and then... I was stunned for days. I couldn't play the game.

The time my sister, brother, and I worked together to beat Metroid back when we were kids. We freaked out when the countdown started but man did we celebrate when we made it out alive with less than a second to go.

Breakdown has a few moments in the plot that made the whole experience 1000% worth it.

Edit: Oh yeah and this time I was playing Team Deathmatch (deathmatch gets spell-checked?) on Grand Theft Auto 4. I ducked into an alley to pick up a machine gun, and my radar shows someone coming up fast on my six. Turned around to see a muscle car headed straight at me. I freeze, but then my right thumb twitches and hits the jump button. I leave the ground straight up just in time for his car to hit the wall behind me and I land on the hood, stumbling slightly. He takes a second to realize he didn't just turn me into modern art, and I point the gun between my feet and give him the whole clip through the windshield, laughing so hard I lost my voice.

As far as I can remember I've cried at the end of every game, especially Heavenly Sword. I even got tear-y eyed at the end of the Uncharteds. I was too pumped to cry after I beat inFamous. I felt like a straight up G.

Most Emotional Gaming Experience.

Happiest - When I got my first wild pokemon, I felt like a God. I love you Caterpie.
Saddest - Entering Lavender Town and discovering Pokemon can die. Didn't feel like a god anymore :_(

Maybe it's the fact that real life has made me dead inside, but I can't really connect with any video game character for the past 3 years.

But, back in the day I gotta say I enjoyed the ending to FFX, just because of the time and effort it took to complete it. I loved the characters and loved how it all wrapped up nicely.
Same here. No other recent game in the decade has solicited a strong emotional response, aside from my first Pokemon game and FFX's fatalistic/mindblowing ending. Shadow of the Colossus was also mindblowing, however the ending made me rage after the epic fight. >-(

This comes from pure fan-ness--

The first Marvel Ultimate Alliance...it was a moment of utter fangasm to hear UATU prattle off all my amazing achievements in the first game I ever beat in a current gen in my life. (PC, then PS2, then PSP, then 360) (Cube was already out when I beat Spider-Man 64, which was also awesome.)

I had never played a 30+ hour game before, and I get so easily emotionally sucked into a story that my mind was blown at every character cameo, unlock, reference, and location.

Runner up:
I know this sounds crazy, but Guitar Hero 2. Until this game, I merely followed game news but didn't play it--couldn't afford it.
But suddenly being able to fall this in love with gaming, working my little gnarled fingers for hours to some of my favourite classic songs in various states of sobriety was so very rewarding. When I finally beat it, it was a hell of an achievement even if it was only on medium.
(shit got real when I made the jump from med to hard. ;) )

Now I own a 360 and play much of the same games as my fellow members.

It just shows--the passion for gaming can exist even on the lowest level of skill or uncool taste.

When I first played FFX (which I really enjoyed, though I know many don't), I got very emotional. Not really because I was sad about the ending per se, but I think the entire atmosphere of the ending (particularly the music) was so fitting, it was haunting.

To this day, though, I always get irrationally sad/happy at the end of FF9

when I realize Vivi has died (CRY!!), but then Zidane makes his big reveal.
It's a great moment for me.

The ending of Red Dead Redemption
-emotion: a core of sadness wrapped in a confused sense of injustice and hopelessness

The "turning point" of Portal where you finish the last formal testing chamber
-emotion: startled fear for my life

The moment in Portal when I realized that all the offices were empty
-emotion: the overwhelming sense of fear when you realize you're completely alone

Many of the "insanity effect" moments from Eternal Darkness
-emotion: paranoid anxious fear (I will never play that game alone at night ever again)

The ending of Final Fantasy X
-emotion: bittersweet sadness

Several of the "Thousand Years of Dreams" sequences from Lost Odyssey
-emotion: it depends on the sequence, some were sad, some were hopeful, some were bittersweet, some were profound commentary on the human condition...some of the best writing I've seen ANYWHERE, books included

I don't care what any of you say... Final Fantasy VIII during the scene on the Ragnarok when you first hear the lyrical version of "Eyes on Me" along with FFX, the scene in Macelania Woods between Tidus and Yuna.

Yea yea, screw you all. I tore up my Man Card years ago! :p
This. I d'awwed and shed many un-manly tears.

Plenty, but two in particular come to mind.

Trying to say goodbye to my friends in Persona 4. I knew it was coming, but fuck..that broke my heart like you have no idea.

Getting Morrigan to admit that she fell in love with me, and then further, when she left me at the end. Probably my favorite video game character.

Mine was RDR too, but not the 'end'.
It was when I finally caught Dutch and was told I could have my family back.

Another one was in GTAIV when Roman died on his wedding day and then Malory phoned me and said she was pregnant. Sorry of spoilers but it's an old game.
Wow. Really? Wow...

I was just reading... and then... wow... without warning or anything...

Really?

It's old sure but really? Really? Really?
I don't even....

Wow....

In the mission where Hawke's mother is kidnapped and we are supposed to be out rescuing her, my heart was thumping all along the trail. And I was incredibly, incredibly pissed when I found out she was dead. I had never spammed aoe spells like I did that time. Burn, ************, burn.
There's just no love for spoiler tags here is there?

The end of Deadly Premonition, a bit of a curve ball for such an odd game.

No spoilers, just go and play it.

The ending of RDR and the real ending of RDR
The ending of L.A. Noire
The ending of Portal 2
The nuke scene in Cod4
Too many moments to count in Kingdom Hearts 2 (The music right after *SPOILER* Goofy looks like he dies *SPOILER* is a perfect example)
Cod 3 when *SPOILER*Sgt. McCullun dies and when Sgt. Dixon dies*SPOILER*.

Can someone please tell me how to do the spoiler box please? (or refer me to a guide or something)
Type [ spoiler ] text [ / spoiler ] without all the spaces

and you get this

I feel obliged to mention Red Dead. That was one of the few games that got me emotional.

The other one that got me was Gears of War 2, when Dom finds Maria in the hollow. I'm surprised nobody's mentioned that yet. When I first saw that scene it hit me like a tonne of bricks.

The intro cutscene thingy to "You're The Inspiration" in Elite Beat Agents.

Happy, lighthearted game about saving lost puppies and low-budget films then BAM! Little girl crying because daddy's not coming home for Christmas.
Because he's dead.
You just mentioning it gave me goosebumps. I get a lump in my throat everytime I play that level.

Also the RDR ending and also
chosing who dies on Virmire
