To put it simply, There were some very sad moments, very great moments, and some moments that i felt like i really was in the game myself. Along with mine, let us share our best moments, our worst moments. How you ask? Got a memory? How about a list? Share with everyone who posts here all the times you cheered on that dude who was going for the Pacman perfect high score. Or the time Aerith was murdered by Sepiroth. Share the times you weeped or the moments you felt like a god!

1.)
{Advisor Kills Eli Vance in Half-Life 2: Episode two.}
2.)Completing Doom 3 Cyberdemon boss fight to the song "Quiet Place" By Inflames, down to the last second.
3.)Managing to completely remove the floor section of Installation XJ-5 on Red Faction.
4.)Me and a friend of mine managing to get a Warthog(with Skippy) all the way down to the Cartographers room in Halo(This took more than two hours!)
5.)Playing Star Wars Battlefront 2, my character gets stuck doing tuck and rolls, and continues to do so until he his finally killed.
6.)Flying up off a man cannon and knocking a friend of mine out of a Hornet with the Gravity Hammer in Halo 3
7.)Watching Dog take on a Strider for the first time in half Life 2: Episode 2
8.)Beating the Master Hand with Mario's weakest move in Super Smash bros. 64.
9.)Blowing up my first Marauder in Eve Online.
10.)Beating the current Half-Life series two seconds. before the New years Ball dropped fully.*

*A frequent, annual goal for me, to try and beat each of the Half-Life games consecutively before the Ball drops fully on New Years Eve, so far, i achieved this twice, episode three will hopefully test my skill.

*EDIT: Gordon Freeman would be ashamed of me! D:

I guess I'll break it down into the three suggested categories.

Crono's death in Chrono Trigger.
Not only was this the first time where I'd played a game where the main character was killed (REAL, storyline death, not that "ran out of HP" stuff), I'd become quite attached to Crono. Watching him get blown away hit me hard.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Bear in mind, this was the first GTA game I ever played (yes, I was late to the party). I played it for hours on end, completely blown away. When I finally stopped for a break, I continued to think GTA mechanics for a while after. It was something else.

Duel with RED in Pokemon Gold. I think I've mentioned it on these forums before. For a twelve year old kid, it represents the pinnacle of achievement. I mean, what greater challenge is there than to face Ash (Pkmn Trainer RED) himself?

Immersive; Final Fantasy XI. For six dark months that was all there was. Thank Christ I woke up. Pokemon Blue comes close second - a young child can be consumed very easily.

Saddest; Majora's Mask - Kafei and Anju side quest finale. The music with the setting and tone is perfection.

Greatest; Jet Force Gemini - Finally getting to Mizar. Some games have a load of content to do after you get to the final boss. JFG literally made you do EVERYTHING in the game prior to getting to him. For someone of 12 that was quite evil, but I perservered and managed to do it.

Thinking about it, I can think of no games that have had a lasting impression of the last five years at least. Makes you wonder really, either the market or my interest is fading.

Agh, my memory sucks, but I'll just tell you a few that come to mind off the top of my head. In no particular order.

Immersive/Greatest: Having an absolutely perfect run down from the top of the big mountain in SSX3. I have never felt more Zen.

Greatest: The first time I was invited to team with a really respected group of players in Imperian and managing to take down a much higher ranked player during the defence of the city.

Emotional/Saddest: One word: Aeris.

Immersive: Sneaking through a cave on a Dark Brotherhood quest in Oblivion at night. I'm not allowed to be seen, so I take it really slow. Suddenly, the wind picks up and my door swings open. For a split second, I swore I had been caught by the guards - in real life!

Memorable: Playing King's Quest VI with my cousin as a little kid.

Memorable: My first online multiplayer FPS - Socom US Navy Seals. It was great being able to co-op and work as a team, even in a less-than-memorable game.

Emotional: The end of FFX.

Greatest: Fallout 3, defeating a Super Mutant Behemoth on maximum difficulty with nothing but a Chinese Assault rifle. (Sorry, Jericho...)

Memorable: Spending a whole day with friends just wasting each other in Goldeneye 64.

Emotional: The end of Kessen in the Tokugawa campaign where the lovers commit suicide in the castle.

(In No Particular order)

Memorable moment:

-Emerging from the vault for the first time in Fallout 3. There's something so daunting and thrilling about that moment. It pushes you to explore in a way that a game like Oblivion never did.

Emotional:

-Beating Earthbound. In addition to everything that the game had made me feel and the wonderfully triumphant final lap across the game world you get, I was filled with optimism for the future of video games and felt like their was no limit to their possibilities.

Sad:

-Watching Robo's robotic brethren reject his painfully heartfelt desire to reunite with them in Chrono Trigger. Having to watch them beat him down and throw him in the trash while he refuses to even fight back filled me with sadness and rage. I don't think I ever got so angry for a boss fight.

Immersive: the beggining to bioshock, that plane crash is so well made and then that dark/light trek up the stairs and down to the bathsophere is so erie. Then the movie that plays and just hearing andrew ryan shout "RAPTURE!" as the slide shoots open to reveal this hidden city while squids and sharks swim by, then the entrance as the splicer rips apart the outside of the bathosphere....god I was literally shaking, wich isn't something I usualy do, it was terrifying and exciting, so amazing.

Saddest: When dogmeat was killed in fallout 3 I was like "Oh nooo! Noo please not dogmeant" and frowned....of course I just reloaded and he was okay, but still it was hard.

Great: Defeating the final collossus, on shadow of the collossus, the long ride through the gorgeous terrain, walking to the final area, and watching that mamoth beast rise from the ground, and knowing I would need to best it, despite my miniscule size, and pin of a weapon. Climbing up it with it shaking and lurching, gripping as hard as I can praying I don't fall, through the rain and black muck, slaming my sword in it's weak points, as hard as I can, and then as I slammed into the last, watching it fall to the ground like a mediore.
Okay, maybe that was a bit over the top for me just playing the game, but thats how gripping it was to me, I felt like I was actually doing it, I'd clench my teeth and grip my controller every time I'd grap onto the monster, and I kept shouting and wincing. It was pretty frekain amazing.

Immersive?

The Thief series tops this easily. I have yet to have played a single other game that has managed to suck me in like the Thief series has. Most recently there was 'Shalebridge Cradle', a level in Thief 3 that became almost as famous as the game itself for just how insanely horrifying of a concept it is and the absolutely perfect way the developers pulled it off. There have been studies done on the level (No, seriously: http://gillen.cream.org/thecradle.pdf ) analyzing every detail, there have been people who've gone through the levels audio for clues and tidbits... With interesting results too:

You know a game is immersive when even once you've turned it off and pushed it aside, you're still thinking it over, analyzing the details and pondering just what you just went through. Damn fine game series. Thief.

Saddest?

Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. I wont say why, too many spoilers. I can link the music though.

Try listening to that and not feeling a bit down.

Immersive:

Fallout 3 on Very Hard difficulty and the Heads-Up Display turned-off.

Emotional (If happy counts):

Various. If I had to pick one it would be the cheesetastic ending to Mass Effect. I won't spoil the ending, but suffice to say it is so cliche I didn't see it coming.

Greatest:

Most hard-fought victories. Fallout 3 springs to mind. As does Civilization, SoulCalibur, Left 4 Dead, and any other game I've played on the hardest difficulty setting.

Emotional

"A man chooses; a slave obeys..... Kill."
I can't remember a game where I actually yelled at the screen in utter horrified frustration other than the moments directly after this dialogue.

Saddest

Probably the
death of Carlos
in Saints Row 2. Just beautifully done in complete contrast to the slick over the top nature of the game, it's wonderfully underplayed and very touching.

Ace Combat 5, despite it's massively pretentious story, was an incredibly immersive game for me, and also pretty sad at one point, specifically when Chopper died (yeah, it's a spoiler, but who here's really gonna run out and buy a game that's already been replaced twice?)

And a great moment was TimeSplitters Future Perfect, when Crow gets away, and Cortez shouts "Dammit!" so loud in 2052 it's heard in 1968 by a previous sidekick. Or when Cortez' voice goes really high because Jo-Beth Casey kicked him in the junk.

These will destory any shreds of manhood I cling to.

Saddest

Final Fantasy X ending. I sniffled.

Immersive

Great Naval Battles of the North Atlantic, trying to save the Hood and Prince of Wales during the Battle of Denmark Straight. I was about two seconds from screaming out commands to Engineering, Guns and Helm. Odd how this game is actually ridiculously ancient but still provided the most immersive naval combat I've ever gone through.

Emotional

Sam and Max. More or less throughout the whole thing. I was laughing my ass off and there were tears in my eyes. When going to the bathroom raises the terror alert level, it's gotta be good.

Greatest (Tie)

1) Mass Effect ending. After that ending, Shepard was like Conan, Kirk, Han Solo, Johnny Rico and Duke Nukem.

2) Free flight in Hawx with my beloved F-15E while having "Voices" from Macross Plus or "Aimo" from Macross Frontier playing in the background.

I don't cry at games that much (I cry a lot in movies though) but there's one moment that will be burned in my mind forever:

So, there was I, ten years old. Always started games, but never finsihed none (except for some short, unnimportant games here and there like Dynamite Dux [does anyone remembers this??????????]).

Then, I got me a Nintendo 64. And Yoshi's Story. I played it for hours and hours, until I finally beat it.

I beat my first 'big game'. When the credits started rolling and that 'music-box' song came up, man, I cried. I cried tears of frigging JOY!

And, let's not forget all of the second half of MGS4. Thankx a lot Otacon and Naomi! Thankx a lot!!!!! >.<

Oh yeah, and the ending of MGS3. I mean, really??? Argh TT.TT
