Let's face it, we've all done some REALLY stupid things when playing games. Some make you angry, some make you facepalm, and with others still, all you can do is laugh at your own failure. That is the topic of our discussion: tell the story of a gaming blunder of yours where you couldn't help but laugh at afterwards.

For me, it was during a LAN multiplayer match with my older brother. The game was a fairly obscure RTS game called "Earth 2150: The Moon Project". Now, I've never been very good in RTS games, but I was doing surprisingly well this match. I had a massive army that stormed into his base, destroying everything they could find. Only one of my brother's units escaped: a construction unit, fleeing into artificial tunnels he had dug out. Feeling confident, I sent my entire army in hot pursuit.

Problem was, I couldn't FIND it! He had already dug out an intricate network of tunnels that covered the entire map. No matter where I send my army, this tiny little rover was nowhere to be seen. I spend somewhere around twenty minutes before it dawned on me. "You've already resurfaced, haven't you?"

He bursts out laughing. Within seconds, my base's alarms blare as a swarm of bombers level it to the ground. In the time I spent on a wild goose chase, he had resurfaced, destroyed the entrance by which he had resurfaced, rebuilt his entire base, and constructed an army even stronger than before. I couldn't help but join in my brother in laughing over my stupidity.

So what about you people? Ever have an instance where you've laughed over your own gaming stupidity?

Too many to keep count of, though I generally attempt to resign my stupidity to the Lethian Fields. Or just learn and adapt. As such, Dark Souls provides ample opportunities for idiocy and foolheartedness. Pretty much went from the Undead Burg bonfire to the Gargoyles without dying (using extreme caution) , before jumping off the roof before I landed a hit. Anyone who has played this game will understand my frustration (my axe probably would have to have had 30 odd backstabs, but still). Perfection is overrated. It is these mistakes that makes our run throughs memorable and unique D.

-sigh-

This is probably not too original of a blunder... but... I recall using hi jump kick on a ghost type Pokemon. Anyone who has used that move and missed is aware of the pain it can cause... xP.

NB...on my first playthrough. As far as online games are concerned..there will always be a circa 12 year old out there who will own us, take time to let us know about it, then annihiate us with their limited, but specific vacab. I have accepted this as a fact of life

Oh, that reminds me of another funny moment. It was when my brother and I were playing the demo for Battlefield 2. My brother watched as I attempted to fly a helicopter for the first time. I don't know how I managed it, but as I lifted off, I drifted and pitched backward until my helicopter completely flipped upside-down and exploded. We had a good laugh over that one.

I've had so many, missing open goals in Pro Clubs on Fifa, losing 30,000 souls on Dark Souls after falling off a ledge.

One of the most memorable though was when I accidentally crashed the only truck left in a match of Project Reality (A BF2 mod) and killed my entire squad, causing us to make the [del]5 minute drive[/del] 15 minute hike on foot back to the next flag. Everyone found it pretty funny apart from the squad leader who nearly had a breakdown on Teamspeak. I'm usually a good driver!

Actually, I had a similar experience to the OP. It was a multiplayer LAN of Dawn of War, 2v2. I destroyed one of my enemies bases early on, so it seemed an easy win from that point. Me and my ally eventually overcame the final enemy (though my ally got destroyed in the process). However, unfortunately the original foe whose base I razed was playing Eldar, and had camped out in his allies base. He led my whole army on a wild goose chase trying to find his last units and buildings, however during this time he managed to teleport behind my base via a hidden warp gate, and as this realisation dawned on me (his scattered 'last units' seemed to be increasing) he leapt out from the shadows and destroyed my base. My army had been scattered by the hunt and as his unified army marched out suddenly the hunter became the hunted! The moral of the story I guess is to never take it for granted a foe is down until the game announces he is out.

On BF3 a few days ago, Kharg Island, the enemy had docks and I was racing there to recap it in a jeep. I saw a lone man crouched in the corner outside the building so I floored it thinking he had no chance. The front of the jeep hit both of the walls, forming a perfect equilateral triangle with him left safely in the middle, literally by millimeters, to gun me down.

my mate and i were playing battlefield online. He jumped in a tank and I got in gunner. He then drove out of the map and that whole 'ten seconds to re enter battlefield' thing popped up. Im like reverse dude, reverse, REVERSE!' instead he tried to turn around and drive out. We blew up and both of us just started laughing our heads off.

Battlefield 1942, I was driving a tank and blowing up everything that got within range of my main gun. A few hits came my way, but I didn't seem to lose much health. Then i noticed a "tink...tink...tink..." sound from behind me. "aha", I thought, "some enemy is throwing a grenade at me!". I turn my main gun around and spot the offending Nazi. I drill him in the forehead with my cannon. He was an engineer. On MY team...and he was FIXING my tank. DOH! :D

Turning my Game Boy off a millisecond too soon when saving my Pokemon Red game, thus corrupting my save file. After I realised what I'd done I broke down and cried like a girl...

While this one technically isn't mine, I must share it with the internets!
During an Uncharted 2 co-op match me, my friend and his brother dicked around and tried to kill eachother in between waves of bad guys after blasting my friend in the face with a SPAS-12 he, in good kindness, threw a grenade at me after his brother resurrected him.
The problem was that he ended up throwing the grenade at me just as both me and his brother were running into a doorway and got stuck on eachother and then we all ended up getting stuck in the doorway all getting insta-killed by the grenade he threw and we failed the match!

We were all pissing ourselves with laughter by the end of it

If you've ever raided in World of Warcraft you're bound to have a list of silly blunders a mile long.

My personal favorite is chasing a Valkyr off the edge on the Litch King fight. Very "Wile E. Cyote" style, DPS DPS DPS... hey wait a second I just walked off the cliff and am now standing in mid-air... character hangs there for a second, then drops *cue falling sound*.
