Halo. I've seen better shooters that don't get as much credit as they should because it's eclipsed by the mediocrady that is the Halo franchise.

I can think of a few that have left me bewildered by their popularity and one or two that have left me bored regardless of peoples utter devotion.

The obvious one would be the CoD: MW series.
While I can appreciate they are good games well made and certainly play competently enough I'm just left bored by the 'real' world war canvas and the fans who take it far too seriously or just take the piss.

HALO.
No reason, to be honest. Maybe I missed the boat on this one as I do play a lot of FPS or maybe it's a case of buzz overkill and being left disappointed by what turned out to be a pretty mediocre shooter. The shitty driving sections didn't help.

Final Fantasy
walkfightwalkfightwalk....... blah fuckling blah

Gears of War
People are excited by this shit? Seriously?

Bioshock

I've tried a few times to have a crack at this but I just cannot get drawn into the story or atmosphere. All seems a bit trying too hard to be desperately mysterious.
Final Fantasy was released about 20 years ago you know that right?
Of which there have been many in the last decade. I mean FF as a series.

I expected a lot more from Bioshock. The voice acting, art design, writing, and atmosphere were all fantastic, yes, but there was very little in the way of an actual story; the myriad recordings and dialogue just boosted the backstory and atmosphere. Also, the dark, confusing levels and Vita-Chambers combined to ruin the pacing, and the gunplay was uninteresting.

I'd heard great things about Rez as an example of games as art, but I just didn't enjoy it.

I could also cite Need for Speed: Shift, which is touted by some as one of the best NFS games of the past five years. I played the demo and found it as twitchily uncontrollable as fuck all, and I love racing sims.

It could've used a bit more grip to begin with, and the drifting downright fails. If drifting has different physics from the rest, it automatically fails.

Not to mention customization and tuning is...deplorable. Street Legal Racing Redline. A game from 2003 - racing game devs should take note on how tuning and customization is to be properly implemented in a game. They should also learn how not to do stability, resource usage, driving etc. like in that game. I love SLRR just because it's so unfinished - more user created content...mods.

Yeah, modding kind of died off with the release of "NG" consoles. That sucks.

inFamous - I've ranted plenty about that though, so I'll drop the name and leave it at that.
RDR Undead Nightmare - Also explained this one a few times already.
Command and Conquer 4 - Yes I know. People hated this, so it's weird to see it mentioned in a thread of overrated games. But I say it because so far this shit is far worse than people have said. Yeah there is the bullshit always online DRM and the really messed up crawler gameplay, but nobody went into detail about how bad the story was. Mainly, how they keep trying to make me give a shit about this woman who is meant to be your character's wife. There is no backstory there, no history with her, and yet they act like she's the center of your world and think that I should care about her. HINT: I don't. Shut the fuck up about her already! It even makes me dislike Kane to some degree. "Threaten her all you want you stupid bald fuck, I don't care. I'm going to go play something else now."

...That's all for now, I'm getting to angry now.
Okay I have another now.

Uncharted 2 - It's good, but nowhere near good enough for the tasteless 25 PERFECT REVIEW SCORES that is plastered on the front of the box. The story was basically a carbon copy of Uncharted 1 but with new nouns, and too many instances of Drake almost dying but being just fine shortly after. It went from being "One ordinary man, one extraordinary adventure" in Uncharted 1 to "One Superman, one 'been there done that' adventure" in Uncharted 2. And the multiplayer just failed on every level. First off, when I first get my copy of the game and put it in my system to play, it should not pair up my level 1 newbie ass with some level 20-30 opponents. It's called balanced matchmaking, try it sometime. And from there, the Uncharted gameplay style just didn't translate well into a multiplayer game at all. However I did say the game was good, and it is: actually playing the single player you will still have some great third person shooter action to enjoy. Just don't expect a great story this time.

Gears of War 1: Just boring for me, and Marcus Fenix's voice annoyed the hell out of me.
Mass Effect: Gameplay was bad, and the female Shepard's voice was bland as plain oatmeal.
CoD 4:The single layer was fun, but nothing I really wanted to replay, and the multiplayer lost interest after unlocking all the guns.
Hl2: Note, I have only played a demo, so I can't judge it fully. I played Ravenholm, and it was just comical. This was supposed to be immersive? I had to take breaks because of laughing at the head crabs.
Halo 3: I loved the multiplayer, and the single player was okay, but felt like it was missing something.

Bioshock is a huge title that belongs in the over-rated section, as is Borderlands.

Can you believe the latter won game of the year? I can't...I just...can't... :/

All of the call of duty and halo games. Very, VERY overated series of games. They aren't godlike as the thousands of fans say they are, they're just average.

Halo Reach, Batman Arkham Asylum, GTA4, Uncharted 2, MAG, and LittleBigPlanet.
How are the bolded overrated. They are praised for being different and exciting. Uncharted 2 did indeed have the best graphics in 09 as well as great dialogue (I love the lip syncing in the game, they mouth the words nearly perfectly). The gunplay is all right but the playable cinematic experiences in the game really made the game shine.

Arkham Asylum was praised for finally not being a shitty batman game.
Remember, the main reasons its so popular is because
1. You are Batman
2. The game isn't ass
3. Mark Hamil is an amazing Joker.

IDK what is so overrated about LBP. Its a platformer that allows usrs to create their own levels and stuff. Not much to overhype about in the game.
I just didnt like Uncharted 2. To me, it felt like the game the last Tomb Raider games shoulda been. And i HATE Nathan Drake. He feels like a cheap James Bond. Gears of War was more intense, and had a better multiplayer, and when it boils down to it, games the revolve around a storymode tend to get old fast.

And the thing about LBP, is that, you have all the creativity in the world, and the ability to do whatever you want. But when it boils down to it, all it really is, is platforming.
Its freedom is limited to "How good you can re-create" something. And if i want to play bioshock, id play the real Bioshock. Not Little Big Bioshock. Or, on the other hand, if i wanted to construct a world all my own, id play minecraft.

Batman Arkham Asylum. Its the best Batman game ever. But there havent been a massive ammount of Batman games, and the ones that were made, absolutely suck. Yes, it was fun, but lets disect the game further. All the boss battles revolve around you eather,
A: Dodging an attack getting 1 hit in, and then dodging again.
or
B: wading through a sea of henchman.
You can walk around in "Detective mode" all you want, giving you wall hacks and knowing the location of everyone within half a mile.

Batman: AA is by no means a bad game. But it was raved about in a way that makes it seem like it revolutionized videogaming as a whole.

Uncharted 2. It was dull and felt like a chore to finish. I don't understand why anyone found it enjoyable really, as the only memorable and genuinely entertaining moment was the truck chase.

In my humble opinion, of course.

I may be missing something here, but when was MAG ever considered to be a good game?
It was always made out to be the worlds greatest shooter game, with 128 multiplayer, and all these customization options.

And even after it came out, it got dozens of "Amazing" reviews, talking about how it rivaled halo and everything.

Where? Are you sure?
Yes. On the cover of any new Borderland boxes, you can find (at least here in NC) a Game of the Year sticker on it.

I was so disappointed with my gaming brethren...and I still am.

Little Big Planet. I really do not like that game and yet nearly everyone I meet talks about how good it is and act shocked and annoy me when I tell them that I don't like it. The gameplay was boring and was really just bad plat forming. The whole thing about the user made content didn't grasp me either. When I buy a game I don't want to build the levels myself because it is boring, tedious takes all the fun out of exploring it and I get no satisfaction out of making things in that game. Then people say oh but you can build things from other games and dress sackboy up like the characters whereas I could just play that game in the first place.

Well, since it is 2011, Fable 2, Dragon Age: Origins, and WoW. I'm mostly just saying WoW just because of how much I loved the original story.......and then they crushed it, then mangled it, then steamrolled it, then threw it into a vat of acid and said "okay, here's what were're going to do....Pterodactyls!!

I think that's a bit of a niche title for car junkies (like myself), but even I admit the new one is horribly confusing and overly complicated. Though the biggest problem is boasting about 1000 cars, then making the vast majority nearly impossible to obtain!

Also, I would say that Mass Effect was overrated. I tried about 20 minutes. Maybe it is good, maybe it's great, but it just didn't click with me. It was too confusing and slow paced, and I could not figure out where to go because of the dim lighting in the first level.
