About a month ago my old WoW account got hacked, and even though I had not played the game for 18 months and have no intentions of ever playing it again, I just HAD to make sure it was safe. When I last logged out on my old main it had logged 100 days of game time, and I could not stand the thought of someone else abusing (or even just using) my creation.

I have lost my most valueable... Dark Cloud 2, 100+hrs in, 98% complete. You have to have the past set up just right so the present will work out just right. And I had 99% of all weapons and built items. All deleted because someone wanted to play the game and they over wrote my save.

I have two PS2 memory cards. My first really small one with all my favorite game data, and a larger one with my data for every game I've played that couldn't fit on the first. The first one had a corrupt data file that I wanted to get rid of but could not do manually so I went to format it. The program formatted the other one and I lost the data from every game I was in the middle of. Most of them were RPGs I had already put 40+ hours into. It also halved the storage capability of my memory card for some reason.

I can't really think of any one item as most games I play push you to get better items later anyway. I did lose a save once. FF2 for the Super Nintendo. I was almost at the end when a power surge reset the system and wiped the save file clean.

Like so many others, I'm going to have to go with saves. Last year I had a hard drive death and it took over 150 hours of Dragon Age, over 100 hours of Mass Effect and ME2, and a load of screenshots for a game that is no longer in operation so they are impossible to recreate.

I lost my Witcher 1 save, totally my own fault too. It was being wierd with it's save location (I have my default documents folder as somewhere other than users/me/my documents). I had the file in the right place, and it wouldn't load so I moved some files around but I guess I moved the wrong one or something because all of a sudden the only save files I have are the brand new ones. Ugh!

As for a particular item... well I don't get too attached to them. I suppose if anything I'd have to refer to Zelda: OoT and the big ass two hander sword just because that was probably one of the first uber items I ever got.

Actually, if I were still playing WoW I think there'd be a few things I would hate to lose. Fortunately I quit years ago and couldn't care less anymore.

I have a story of my own, and one of my brothers.
In the first Pokemon game I ever played (Yellow; yes, I'm young) I got it all the way up to Lv. 100. That was my first ever Lv. 100 Pokemon, and I now make it a tradition to have a Pidgeot in my main 6 team whenever possible. Yes, even in Platinum. It's also in honor, really, because that version passed on just a few years ago. ;(

My brother's story is a much shorter one. He managed to get that one mask in Majora's Mask that you get when you trade over all the other masks or whatever (I can't remember any of it), and he was so proud of that silly little Mega-God-White-Link Mask thing. He hasn't lost the save yet, but if he did he'd probably throw a spit fit.

Don't ever call the Fierce Deity mask silly.

For me, either the ability to craft pickaxes in minecraft, or the Zora mask in Majora's Mask. Damn, that mask be bitchin'.

Well, while not a very unique weapon, my 45. magnum (fully moded) in FV new vegas. As soon as i got that weapon, running from deathclaws as i my sneak attempt failed became a thing of the past. Who's running from who now!!

Yes! Fierce Deity; that was the one. Thanks, and sorry I guess. That game was pretty fun...

I have two more. First, there's my save on Kirby and the Amazing Mirror (far too much fun for its own good) that's at 98%. All the spray paints, beat Dark Mind, that must've taken dozens of hours. Second is my Bioshock 2 achievements (does that even count as in-game?) I got almost all the achievements besides the "get to level x in multiplayer" ones, and if those got wiped I'd be super-bummed.

I cannot comprehend giving value to a virtual item.
Therefore your time is completely worthless? Interesting. I find I quite value my time.

Well, thanks to the first 2 posters I just copy/pasted my Skyrim save to my external HD.
OT:
My Sam&Max TF2 hat is (or atleast was) worth 120$.
Neved did trade that thing. Still get minimun of 1 friend request on steam each month of people
wanting to scam me out of it.
Also I burned down the Minecraft house me and a buddy spent hours building...
I dont like to talk about it...

For me it too would be my Pokemon Red save from after I completed my Pokedex. All the starter Pokemon maxed out, with a Blastoise (I think, or Charizard) hand-reared without any Rare Candy from 1 to 100. The whole thing was the pride and joy of my young little life.

And then, one day, it was just gone. Hell hath no fury like mine...

Second place would be my very first Minecraft structure, which had just vanished after I came back from a spelunking trip. The whole mountaintop was reduced to a hole, like 4 Creepers detonated out of their own volition while I was underground.
