Are you deliberately misinterpreting what I am saying? You conclusion is flawed, you have never made the claim that Perry is edgy 'till now, so you cannot suddenly conclude that she is, and even if you decide that Perry is edgy I never said that a stick was as sharp as a razor, so your conclusion that Perry is as edgy as Pink is also flawed.
I'm using your reasoning. If I'm wrong, then you must be, too. If I'm right, then you're wrong again. Either way, there has been a miscarriage of logic on your part.

No you are not using my logic, I have already shown you were your logic fails, and if you don't want to see it then that is your failing. Either way continued "debating" with you is a waste of my time, so I am done.

That's an odd way of admitting defeat, but I'll take it.

And, even though this spans practically all genres, there are people out there who are also like that about Deadmau5. Don't get me wrong, I think his music is ok, but the artist himself is a real dick.

These may not be his exact words, but what he basically said was that "DJs are not necessary". You can imagine how fast his customer base dropped because of that comment.
I think it hurt his image more his wallet, but yeah, that sentiment ruffled feathers, abroad. Joel subsequently apologized and it seemed sincere. He is still rather outspoken, however, continuing to cause friction.

I actually 'got' his attack on DJ's, though I grew out of that way of thinking. There is the sense that DJ's are glorified stereo operators, worshiped as heroes for propping themselves up on other people's music, making a name and money for themselves without requiring any real talent. This toxic caricature is derived from a kernel of truth: some ARE like that and see a disgusting degree of success doing so.

In a less petulant and skewed view, most DJ's are passionate music lovers who possess a very different skillset than musicians and producers, swimming in the waters of hosts, promoters, networking to continue expanding a listener base, diligently seek out and new music for the benefit of more casual listeners and party goers. Like musicians themselves, their freedom with what they play is bottlenecked by the financial responsibilities they carry. The more successful they become, typically the more conservative or set in their ways they are.

It's easy to remember a few assholes and make them seem like the total sum, but most DJ's I've dealt with love music, people, events and have good intentions.

While looking through this thread, I thought of another pet peeve of mine.

People who reject whole genre's because they simply didn't like one, or two songs, or just hate the genre's out of principal. Those guys are idiots, pure and simple, because It's just limiting yourself at the end of the day, and what your ears can hear.

Yes, we all have our own preferences, but when there is such a treasure trove of great music, and with the advent of the great interwebs making it easier than ever before to find new music, there's going to be at least one song, or artist that you enjoy in the genre's that you don't normally listen to. For example, I never thought I would like Punk Rock, but I have found a few artists, and songs that I like from that kind of music, after exploring the genre, and what it can offer me.

Anthony Fantano (of the Needledrop) has also touched up on this subject in a recent vid.

So yeah, expand your horizons kiddies, go out of your comfort zone. Ignore stereotypes, and Listen to rap, even if you hate the genre, or listen to some hard hitting electronica if you think electronic music isn't talented. There's bound to be something you would like, even if it does require a little digging around.

So yeah, explore your dislikes, and maybe you can appreciate music a lot more, and then who knows, maybe you might find your favourite artist in those genres.

I like what you say, however, I find the power of the internet also overwhelming. Frankly the market is rather oversaturated. Thought I´m just as to blame for this as the next guy that wants too make music. But I digress.

My point is that it´s already hard enough te scout through my comfort zone for stuff I like. I am guilty of denying whole genres, jazz and rap big examples, simply because I don´t know where to look in combination with other priorities in my tastes.

I do feel obliged to check out every song my acquiantances recommend me for they often find me stuff out of my comfort zone. Sometimes they really hit the nail on the head and I´ll check out the artist.
