Say your an alien on a spaceship that has reached earth about 50 years after humanity's extinction. All of its records and video collections and architecture etc. are still around.

Basically, after taking in everything and getting to know how humans walked, talked and acted, what do you think?

Personally, I would be glad to have arrived after humanity's extinction.

I would simply find a copy of Earth: The Book and realize just how funny humans could be. Then I would mourn them.

Probably feel sadden. No one could agree on anything. Either who was right about religion (from either groups of religious people atheist). To people fighting over land, government, or just pointless stuff that could have settle by chatting.

Or perhaps they didn't fight when they had to. They let things happen because "it wasn't their fight." instead of helping each other through the time of crisis and let things get out of hand.

I would really wonder why they couldn't get along, and why was their diversity such an alkalies heel when it was such a good thing.

I'd be a bit disappointed. As a group we have a lot of problems, but every individual has something amazing to offer if they put their mind to it.

Okay, firstly unless this alien is some kind of hive-mind where everyone agrees with everyone and there is no division and they love the planet and live in mud huts that decompose into unicorns and rainbows, then I bet they are just as bad as us.

Which is to say, not that friggin' bad. Seriously, humanity gets a bad rap I think, sure we've fucked up, we've fucked up loads, but consider out achievements. We activelly spend time, money, resources and our own lives to help others, whether it be with charity, protests or even something as simple as voting for what we believe. We are curious little buggers as well, not content to dwell in ignorance, but instead finding out how things work, and then using these things to improve the lives of others.

Face it, humans aren't assholes. The reason humans have had such a bad effect on the planets health, have had world wars and eat up resources where as animals don't, isn't because the animals are so much better than us, they just can't do those things.

Geez guys, have a little pride in your species, we aren't so bad.

Well we're not dead yet. Honestly alot of people thought we would have killed each other with nukes by now. I'm impressed that we haven't.

"A race that has allowed Michael Bay's "Transformers" to come into existence is a race that deserves extinction" is what my cold, logic-driven Alien brain would make me say. "A race that also allowed "video games" to exist and provide us with so much insight on human culture deserves a second chance" is what that strange twinging in my warming Alien heart would make me say.

I'd be relieved. If this species managed to group together effectively under the right leadership,t hey would be a most powerful evil force. If they advanced enough they would destroy much the galaxy and concur the rest. Truly a terrifying species.

(The aliens probably think this because... we only document the bad that happens, rarely do we document any cases of actual kindness or greatness.)

*Recording log of Naut unit 131*
*Recording begins in 3...2...1.*

"I'm gonna make this short and simple. I'm slightly shaken by their disappearance."

"They weren't a completely vile race, as many of my colleagues in the galactic counsel's thread suggest. These beings followed a relatively simple path of advancement, not too different from a lot of our owns. Yes, they had prejudices, wars, and moments of low intelligence at certain moments, but they also had acceptance, peace, and significant moments of pure genius. How come they didn't make it? Did they make a too many wrong decisions? Maybe that's all it was, a few moments of failure on their part. It could've happened to any of us, really. What would've happened to my race if we'd made a few too many mistakes? They weren't bad, just unlucky. I mourn the loss of potential. They all thought differently, acted differently, just like any other being in the Universe. The supported their cultures and rebelled against it. Whether or not what they believed in was truly "bad" or "good" is not something I can really discuss. Maybe if they'd been around a bit longer, they would have finally got around to working out their issues. We're not perfect, we haven't figured it out, the truth is this: We've made up for our wrong moves by making the right ones, and haven't blown ourselves up...yet."

"Human's are stupid, ignorant, wasteful beings. Their saving grace is that they occasional do just as much good as bad. And video games."

"They were alright. Some of them kind of had this whole extinction thing coming, but the rest actually seem like some pretty decent people."
