The finale of Red Dead Redemption was a very memorable moment that should go down in gaming history.

My opinion on it I was slightly sad and at the same time very proud of the ending.

(Can someone message me how to do the "spoiler click here" thing so I can discuss the topic further without giving away the ending to those that have not yet reached it ?)

Personally, I loved it. Games with real thoughtfull endings that arn't just the hero walking off into the sunset are awesome.

I personally was stunned at how the game ended; John Marston being killed by a rampaging T-Rex while his family was chainsawed to death by Black Jesus? WHAT A TWIST!

Yeah, it was a great ending. Very dramatic. But I'm still not sure why
The army attacked him

It was beyond the ending to almost any other game I have played. Few have affected me the way the ending to this game.

It was the kind of ending that I didn't want to see and yet knew had to happen to justify the games setting. The west was dying and Marston was being stabbed in the back repetedly. I wanted to believe, same as Marston, that the death of Butch would be the end of it. That I could go home and that was it. But in the back of my mind I knew, it couldn't be so simple. When the deputies show up to kill you, I realized what had just happened. Marston was screwed either way, everyone in the game was. Marston did the governments dirty work, and they in turn sent him down with the rest of former pals he had just killed. Whether he helped or didn't made no differance to the government types. He was always a pawn to be discarded after his work was done.

However, they did to Marstons son Jack what MArston had done to himself eventually. It left Jack with a lot of help and essentially turned him into ANOTHER John Marston. The deputies payed the price for it too.

Also a sidenote: Was I the only one who thought Jacks voice was really screwed up.

I personally was amazed by the ending.

Having such a massive twist as John Marston being killed in my opinion is such a ballsy move, but I personally think it played off, as it really showed that Rockstar isn't afraid to fuck with the world they establish during the entire game for the sake of story.

In a way I don't think it could have ended any other way, especially not with the same level of emotional impact. I was shocked, sitting on my couch with my jaw (literally) dropped wide open.
I think Rockstar are excellent story-tellers. My only gripe is that I don't have the same emotional connection to Jack as I did with John Marston, since I spent the entire game sympathizing and learning about him, as he was a very deep character.
When I got Jack Marston to play as, I was happy because he looked awesome (Rockin' the Will Turner look) but I wasn't attached to him since he was such a whiney ***** when you first met him.

lol thats my views in a very dragged out nutshell.

I was infuriated..the game was one of, if not the best I've ever palyed...but having to play as Jack in the end was a real kick in the balls...John Marston being killed made me drop a single tear, for I had grown Emotionally attached to that man..in fact as John Marston..I havent even commited any crimes..or killed anyone I wasnt supposed to.. as jack..i lost that motivation and my honor is no way below 0. it was an amazing ending..just sad

Yeh I shoulda just quoted you. You pretty much summed it up.
John Marston's death was essential to the story and to the changing world it's set in, as he is pert of the old west that he himself is being forced to destroy.
I wanted to believe as well that it was the end for John, that he could just relax and live out his days with his wife and son, but the music was just too ominous to ignore.

p.s Sorry about triple posts

It was sensational, the only fault I have seems to be shared by almost everybody; Jack's voice and dialogue is horrendous and really tears one out of the game, dealing with his moronic puns were dreadful as well.

I hope that maybe, some day, Rockstar will release a free patch to remove his ***** voice and lines, hell, just allow people to use the John Marston model and dialogue AFTER they've completed the final mission as Jack, don't give a story reason or anything, just allow it so we don't have to deal with that whiny little prick.

You can use cheats so you can play as John again I think, but I know what you mean as you can't save the game while you have cheats on.

I thought it was good, definitely a decent ending when you compare all the other games out there at the moment that seem to end, or rather, not end.
But as a previous poster stated, being forced to play as Jack was indeed a kick in the balls due to the fact that we spent the entire game growing fond of John and actually wanting the best for him (and not whiny Jack).

I'm still laughing. Black Jesus with a chainsaw. Who can think of something like that? There is something wrong about you I can feel it :D

It was a good ending. Too bad it was ruined for me on GTAforums by some twat who doesn't know how to use spoiler tags. Or maybe he did it on purpose. I don't really care. I wish he was killed by black Jesus with a chainsaw.

I agree, It's like if they ever made a videogame based on The Osbournes and you played as Ozzy for most of it going through his achievements and then they forced you to play as one of his ungrateful kids (Namely Jack)

You shuffle along through his trials and then BAM! a quad bike kills you and your playing as a near stranger.

There are too many ranch-missions at the end, and by this point I was getting pissed off. All but 2 or 3 of the Mexico missions are pure filler, now I'm doing 6 missions that are dull as hell. 1 or 2 would be fine, but not 6.

LEARN TO PACE A GAME ROCKSTAR.

The ending was pretty good. John could arguably have just walked out the back of the barn with Jack and Abigail though, although I can see why he may not have.

All-in-all, my main issue was that I was dying for the game to just fucking end by this point, and I didn't care for Marston as much as other people because I don't think he's particularly well written (in terms of his character, the dialogue was fine).

[small]Also, Mafia's ending is so much better![/small]
