Politicians & news anchors & talk show hosts etc. always damn all video games because they hate FPSs. That's like going to a video store & daming all the movies because you think the availability of horror movies could scar children for life, or damning all radio stations because you hate death metal & rap.

On the TV side, since less people are watching TV & more people are playing games, I'll bet their producers egg them to bash on games, like the way politicians often slander their opponents.

Oh another one. When all these old tossers die off, who will be left to hate on games? I heard a British comedian on TV claim that games have gotten more hate over time from these folks than TV & comic books combined. If the episode had been recent enough, I'm sure he'd have had a chart showing the difference between what American Liberals & Concervatives thing "full frontal nudity" is. A sideboob? The whore!

People scapegoat that which they do not understand. Stupid people being stupid, that's all there is to it really.

It's ignorant, but every new entertainment medium has been bashed before (Rock, Punk, and Metal in music, Radio, Television). It will pass eventually, I hope.

Well, none of it is based on true facts, and even the bits that almost are are blown so ridonculously out of proportion as to be made up anyway.

I hate it, especially when they know nothing about games.

Talking about high scores, levels, stuff like that.

I doubt that they've ever played any of the games that they're ranting about, so their opinions (and that's ALL they are) are totally biased and uniformed.

I'll be so happy when those old farts die off, so we can finally game in peace.

They know nothing about the medium and are only looking to demonize the people who enjoy it for their own selfish gains. They are pandering to the legions of concerned parents who are full of misconceptions about gaming in general and these sicofant politicians and talk show hosts are only trying to fuel these unfounded fears to elicit the undying support of these people who fear the allegedly effects of video gaming. These ass clowns make me sick. We need to counter these lies and defend our beloved medium from those who seek personal gain from the misconceptions surrounding it! That's my two cents on this topic.

It's just demagoguery, plain and simple.

People making usage of popular prejudices to gain power.

It's all uninformed, judgmental and bias used to escape from the fact bad parenting is the real culprit behind all "bad and violent" children.

I don't think they really care one way or the other about gamers or the games they play. They're just a convenient scapegoat for the moment. Just like books, comics, rock and roll, heavy metal and Dungeons & Dragons before them, video games will have to endure a bit of a trial by fire before the public at large realizes they're essentially harmless.

Both Politicians and Journalists who hate games can continue to hate, for all I care. Their opinions are often irrelevant and only focused at getting the majority of society to agree with them.

In the case of Politicians who have a small amount of power given to them (such as Australia's Michael Atkinson), are so insignificant that all their efforts made - which upset gamers - will be filtered out by the growing youth who will take their power in years to come.

Like most bigots, they are scared of what they don't understand. They try to gather support to assure themselves and others that their opinions are correct; so they can live in a world which caters to their own morality.

In the end, they are nothing. We will still enjoy our past-time and there isn't much they can do about it, except troll.

I think its great - if you were able to chainsaw prostitutes in half in GTA IV it would have been so much more fun!

Thanks to JT for that great idea; hope you're reading this R*!

Politicans and news anchors are just pandering to all those parents out there that are worried that video games are going to corrupt their childern. My question is: why is little Johnnie even playing GTA IV? I mean it's not like he can buy the game himself. The parent had to have bought it for him. Parents just don't properly know, or care, about the rating system for games. I mean if violent video games are so bad, why are people getting hyped up about movies? I mean the Saw series is based around the idea of TORTURING people! This whole problem is based upon the fact that lots of people are ignorant about gaming and that mature games, and movies, should be experienced by mature people. Can you really blame pornography for corrupting your child after you let him have free access to it?
