An empty room, with a large sign, simply saying:

"You're personal hell."

GAH. THE GRAMMAR.

Having my mom be told that she could bring me back from the dead by beating the entire Half-Life series.

Then watching her attempt this from over her shoulder.

being restrained to a chair while everyone i care about gets viciously murdered by a mentally warped version of myself, or any other sort of thing where those most important to me are forcibly taken away from me while i can't do anything but watch.

No I will never shut up about my undying hatred for her and her constant random orgasm noises.

Oh, come now. I haven't played the game in months, due to my sister stealing my PS3 for all of January and most of February, but for the parts of the game I played (first few hours) she succeeded in genuinely being charming, to some extent. Granted, I play few JRPGs, so I suppose don't encounter the trope all that often...

I am locked in a room, and there are physical representations of all my fears and flaws. Each day, one of them will remind me of how they ran my life into the ground, and I will be shown these memories.

Something involving hornets, wasps, and killer bees. And having cement shoes so I can't run and can only try to drag myself away from the incoming stings.

Having to listen to dance music ALL DAY LONG at loud blaring volumes in the drunken, club-like atmosphere that I just can't stand. I don't want to hear something go BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM all the time. You could say try drowning it with the alcohol being served, but then the hangover would come, and the it would be even worse.
Oddly enough, this would be my own personal heaven.

My personal hell would probably be in a cold basement, chained naked to a metal chair, and be interrogated by Glen Beck on my personal and political views, while a pot of curry cooks close enough for me to smell.

If the human body has its normal adaptive abilities as it does in life, then even the worst and most physically painful torture will become tiresome over the centuries. Worse still for these theoretical hell-spawn officers, regardless if the body can be torn apart and reformed with its former weaknesses restored, they will have to deal with the recipient's inevitable boredom on top of everything else.

Its my theory that, not just for me personally, that hell isn't overt physical punishment, but a compilation of those little infuriating happenstance that occur at random in real life, all happening one after the other. Every step jams a toe into a sharp corner, every joint aches, every gesture pulls a muscle. The cumulative effect of this kind of torture would be gradual insanity, a much more potent kind of result for all the effort Satan must put in personnel training.
