I know the year isn't over yet and there's a lot of November releases coming up, but I want to hear what people have so far.

What's the best new game you've played this year? And is there a game being released this year that you think will top it?

My game of the year so far is probably a game I got early in the year with Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective. The game worked well, it was well written, beautiful animation and even though it wasn't very long and there's nothing new to unlock or see, I've enjoyed playing the game quite a few times now.

I think my winner for game of the year though will probably come later with Saints Row 3.

What about you all?

The year isn't over yet. Why do these keep popping up? If it was your favourite of 2010, then I could see it. But we don't know untill everything has been released.

Do we need to be reminded of what happened with Brutal Legend?

So far, a tie between Portal 2 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

The only game still to come that I can see equaling or beating those in my opinion is Assassin's Creed: Revelations.

At the moment for me it would have to be Gears of War 3. I love that game! But I think by the time the years done, Batman: Arkham City will be my personal game of the year.

So far Infamous 2, Saints Row 3 or Skyrim might take the crown but at the moment that's my favourite

For me so far it was an early one, Dead Space 2. However my copy of Dark Souls got delivered this morning so once my 2 year old goes for her afternoon nap I'll be ripping into that one. Since Demon's Souls was my favourite release of last year this may change things.

At least until Skyrim.

Probably Cathrine but then again I've played very few new releases this year. Either way Cathrine was great

So far?

Dark Souls.

It's everything I wanted in a sequal from Demon's Souls and more. More than enough to distract me until Skyrim comes along and steals the rest of my time this year.

For me 2011 has been a slow year, I have a grand total of 3 games released this year that I was rather impressed with, all on PC as well.

1. Deus Ex Human Revolution
2. Shogun 2: Total War
3. Portal 2.

Portal 2 was great but I hated how some of the rooms lacked freedom and had just one or 2 spots that could have a portal on them, it kinda killed having to discover the solution. Still a great game but it lost points there.

Shogun 2: Total War was a very nice addition to the series imo. Empire was a much larger game but also slower and more tedious, troops all moved very slowly and sometimes marched in very unusual ways that weren't as indicated. Shogun 2 made the gameplay faster and much more responsive, I'm also a much bigger fan of it's warfare than musket warfare. Shogun is let down only by limited units/replayability but there's now DLC that I may try out for it.

Deus Ex Human Revolution: Game has its flaws like still being an action game and getting rid of RPG elements. Lame bossfights and stupid endings yet...I really like it, it was great to have some nice freedom of gameplay and get a good feel for what made Deus Ex my favourite game of all time. It's also fair to say I was really immersed in it. So yeah my game of the year so far.

Only title I'm looking forward to that could topple it is Dark Souls.

So far:
Portal 2 or DiRT 3.

Deus Ex: Human Revoloution just didn't cut it for me. I gave up on it pretty soon after the first boss fight.

Cant really make up my mind, most of the big hitters are yet to be released. The only one that stands out at present is Shogun 2, which is being played to death.

Space Marine for me.

Now before anyone flames me with 'how could you forget Portal 2, Deus Ex and gears of war?' let me clarify.

Valve make good games, that's what they do, that's what we expect from them, deus ex was going to be loved whether it was good or bad, and it wasn't ever going to be bad given its progeny, and Gears 3 already had such a formulaic edge to it that there was no-way it could have been worse than its predecessors.

but Space Marine was unexpected, it came out of nowhere and really surprised everyone. I was all geared up to say 'meh, Gears clone' and put it away, but I did not think for a second that it would be as good as it is. The campaign has a good difficulty curve, it's a decent length, the story is well-written and interesting, the soundtrack is phenomenal and the visuals were good quality as well, add to that the surprisingly solid multiplayer and you have a real contender.

Please can we stop glorifying the big franchises, they don't change anything from game-to-game, so they don't improve, let the stand-alone titles have the spotlight, just for a minute, it's what they deserve.

Well for the whole year, Saints Row: The third, I think that will be the best game of the year.

BUT, so far, Im'a going with...nothing. I just cant think of any game I have brought this year that is truly the best, so nah, cant say until November the 15th.

I can safely come to the conclusion now that my personal GOTY is going to be a tie between Deus Ex HR, Dark Souls and Space Marine.

I have precisely no interest in Skyrim, so I shan't be counting that, and there's nothing else on the horizon that captures my interest either.
