A dual bladed death sythe the best close range weapon to have when the zombies are at your door, also the best weapon to take off heads

Overdone thread is REALLY overdone. Search bar anyone?
More on topic: I think probably a Laser sword. That or a powerfist. (Good idea btw)

A power fist.
And I don't mean one of those piddly little things from Fallout.
Big enough to block a doorway, lethal without even having to flick, no better choice in personal defense weapon (Well, melee, anyway >.>)
+ The Space Marine armour it came with would shrug off piddly little bites!

Unless the zombies roll a 6 to wound >_>
Also, lovin' the Warhammer humor. Shouldn't be a problem :p They can't throw dice. (Not intentionally, anyways)

I have to call into question how much the people who say Katana actually know about swords and combat as a whole.

They're just well...not good in this situation. Sure they can cut flesh well enough but bone is incredibly dense and durable. You'd never put a single zombie down with one of those things baring some kind of magical buffs ala Samurai Jack. That'd be cool. Yeah. Samurai Jack

Aluminum bat.

Katana would be cool, but believe it or not it would be prone to breaking, and as someone said, it needs to be sharpened constantly, especially since you'll be cutting through whatever they're wearing and bone, etc.

Swords were never meant to last a very long time in battle before they became somewhat ineffective.

So just an aluminum bat, because it's light and packs a -huge- punch. Possibly a wooden Louisville Slugger, with a nail or two in it, but that would probably splinter and crack very easily. So yeah, light aluminum bat.

Real weapon? Probably a good baseball bat (metal) because it wouldn't take much to crack some skulls with one of them, whereas a katana would be too bloody and I imagine it would be hard to use indoors without getting it stuck in a wall.

Fake weapon? LIGHTSABER ************! (I don't care about efficiency, I want me a goddamn lightsaber goddammit!)

Realistically:

Commonly refereed to as a flamberge (flame-sword), this baby will out cut any sword out there (even the katana, despite what the katana plonkers might think a katana is in fact just a sharpened steel bar you whack people with and is not a magic cut everything weapon) thanks to the kriss blade. It also leaves a rather nasty hole when you stab with it. The leather ricasso above the hand guard allows it to be wielded like a pole arm making it effective even in tight areas. Weighing in at only 8 pounds, this well balanced murder-maker will bring down any who oppose you.

Second choice is:

This baby is part hammer, part axe, part spear, all deadly. Chop, poke, or smash, this does it all. Comes complete with a buttspike on the bottom for added offensive power. This weapon has more options than a Cadillac.

Whilst wearing:

Weighing in at around 60 pounds, Gothic plate is the best protection medieval money can buy. No zombie attacks can bother a man in plate. The armor is made to last and made for you to hinder you as little as possible. Many may think a knight is a like a turtle and can't get off his back, but the many are very stupid and should stop being such dummies. Plate armor is made to not hinder you. You can climb ladders, get on your horse, and go through obstacle courses all in full kit without much of an issue.

Unrealistically, I'd go for a lightsaber. Preferably one colored like the max evil lightning from inFamous

Realistically, a knife so I can kill myself and get it over with. The mephitic miasma generally attending such events is unlikely to be kind to an asthmatic....
Semi-realistically, a Guan Dao; the kind with a stout spike on the back end. Against a straggler, either aim for the neck, or chop the legs and then bust his skull with the back end. Against the horde, chop the legs to slow 'em down, then run; holding your ground against the horde is suicide, pure and simple. Alternately, a Spartan shield. Made for both offense and defense, you can knock or push the enemy back with the flat, or crack skulls with the edge.
Unrealistically, I want Hawkgirl's Nth metal power mace from JLU. If it can knock Solomon Grundy across a room, it can damn sure take care of some pissant brainmunchers.

A hand and a half broadsword. Sure, Katana's are fast, bt they require to hands, and sometimes you just dont have that second hand.

IRL: A Halberd, or a Claymore.
Non IRL: One of Siegfried Schtauffen's Zweihanders, and the strength to use it.
