I've recently had some experience with video editing, so I decided to combine that with gaming and make a little compilation of some moments I played in League of Legends. I used the LoL spectator client to save gameplay footage, then recorded that playback with Fraps, and tried to edit it using Final Cut on a mac. The issue is that the free version of fraps only saves video as .avi, which Final Cut is incompatible with.
My question to those of you more experienced with capturing gameplay is: how do you get your footage in a compatible file format, like mp4? Is the 37 USD version of Fraps actually worth paying for? Or is there a better alternative?
Also, I suppose I could convert the .avi to .mp4, but every online converter I see looks like it comes with a free virus. Unless anyone knows of any good ones.
