Yeah, but it still just involves memorization in the end. I mostly just suck with languages other than English. Oh well. And I personally don't use study groups, because it doesn't help me learn.
I still recommend study groups. It's the next best thing to dating someone fluent in the language.

I've used a similar excuse, but eventually I noticed that it varied from subject to subject. Generally if I'm having trouble with a subject then a group environment helped. Otherwise I studied by myself.
What I mean is, I've tried study groups for the subject before, and it didn't help.

A musical question for drummers and/or percussionist out there.

I need to work on my limb separation, mainly the fact that I can get my feet doing a basic steady rhythm(4/4 for instance all the way up to 250bpm sections) and my hands doing offtime beats, but I can't do viceversa at all. Help?

I need help!

Back in August I went to a music festival with a chum from school. VIP passes and it was free because his Dad worked there. My friend's family went and he was allowed to bring a friend (hence me going for free) and his sister brought her friend. I fell in love with her (the sister's friend) and I still think of her. For the entire concert, I just dumped my friend on his own (selfish, I know) and stayed with said girl. However, the festival was only for five days and I haven't seen her since but I can't stop thinking of her. I haven't felt the emotions that I have for her for quite sometime and I can't imagine myself with anyone else at this very moment in time.

Now, in January I have the possibility of seeing her just for one day at another concert. I want to ask her out and express my love for her but I don't believe I have the courage. Even if I do she'll most likely say no or will be currently taken because I doubt I have much chance with her. There is also the possibility that she won't come to the concert, if in that case should I move on or attempt at contacting her some way or another by getting her phone number or something off of my friend's sister but then I'll appear as a stalker and I wouldn't know what to say?

If someone can just give me advice or suggestions, I will truly appreciate it.

-Ricky

Believe it or not the worst thing to do is to 'confess your love to her'. It puts pressure on her and you.

This is a long subject, with lots of conclusions and intricacies (it's one of those self-discovery things).

If you want more info PM me. Most advice I can give might seem like advertising even if it's free.

I might have to answer after the weekend FYI.

What do you do for memorization?
I've tried a bunch of different things. Mnemonics, repetition, note cards, etc... not much works.

You're screwed my friend. I'm just glad I never went through the whole tedium of studying. I've only ever studied for one test to see if it would really improve my grades like everyone said. I couldn't get a few of the facts I studied out of my head and ended up being distracted. Studying hurts my grades so I never study. It's kick ass.

Does your university require a 201 proficiency in a foreign language to graduate? That's why I'm screwed.

im a little OCD(who isnt?), so i always wonder if anyone truly cares if i capitalize those damn i's. as you can see i dont right know but i would if it bugged people.
Little help here.

Have you approached the prof/teacher on this? If you're a student it's their (or their teaching assistant's) responsibility to help you. Don't be rude to them, but it is their paycheck. If you can't keep up and they don't have any other help in study you can always try to address the concern by asking for extra ways to get your grade (write an essay in latin, more homework, etc).

Sorry to go circular here, but: if you go to class more often the prof will also be more interested in helping you.

I care more if you capitalize the first letter of a sentence and used grammar marks ('";:,.?/). Otherwise I will read it as you communicating your meekness, for which I will chortle then ignore the mistype.

I know. I have approached him, but he's one of the folks that feels that you should help yourself. He directed me to the on-campus tutors, which also didn't help. I was never able to get help from other people; it's just who I am.

It bugs me, it really does, but I'm not going to hate you for it. It's one of those things that comes from the fact that both my Grandad and my Dad were both grammar and spelling freaks.

EDIT: Yeah, folks, he's got a point. This is a thread for everyone's problems. Don't be afraid to introduce your own!

Hmmm... can't say I really mind at all. I only capitalize mine out of force of habit. It's just my way of getting used to writing properly so I don't mess up in a situation where I have to write something serious.

xitel, imo everyone has their own way of memorizing things, if their memorization skill even lets them. When I took French in school, I'd have all the words I had to memorize written on the back pages of my notebook, & I'd circle around in my room, notebook in hand, & pronounce each word carefully, then silently read its translation. I did great in my exam.

I also have a problem I'd like to ask about: I almost always have this sensation in my chest, as though the weight of my ribcage is crushing my heart. I'm not sick, so I'm pretty sure it's this sense of dread I have, dread about life in general. How life's been, how life will be, worrying about my parents, worrying about my studies, worrying about our financial situation...

Stupid thing is, I'm the kind of guy who normally shrugs off troubles, & doesn't let anything get to him. But when I'm sitting here in my dark room, everyone else asleep, but me still feeling it's too early, it just happens. I'm not even thinking about anything bad, it just happens.

It's going to sound silly, but the solution is crying. Just sit there and cry. I used to feel the same way, almost all the time, and I still just shrug things off. But you can't totally shrug them off. They still sit in your subconcsious. Like I said, sit down and cry for as long and as hard as you need. As long as you can even. Let yourself feel sad and angry. Force yourself to cry if you need, and then let go.
