I've said it before, Valve simply could not handle the sheer number of staff. They couldn't do it with the "piss about" structure they have right now.

Why would Valve do such a thing? I mean who would want EA? The only conceivable reason for doing so would be to dismantle it.

The only conceivable reason in deed.

Other than Bioware, nothing of value is affected or lost on either side.

Hey, he didn't say anything about the probably layoffs of unneeded staffers. That's really neither here nor there, though.

OT: I would probably find it very funny. Because Valve has this tendency to make ludocrous amouns of money, I can see a number of things EA's sitting on and doing nothing...starting to get their greenlight for a digital release. Result? Steam makes money hand over fist...errr...again.

Not really. Not even EA are crazy enough not to milk a couple IPs first, before cannibalizing their acquisitions. Milking is the whole purpose.

The value in EA is in the IP they own and in the licences(sports) they have. If hypothetically Valve acquired EA then the reason would be they would want to exploit those.

Taking out a weak competitor(Origin against Steam?) isn't a good reason. Even if EA is near bankruptcy at the time of the hypothetical purchase, the shares would rise again in anticipation, so that's an expensive undertaking, when you can also simply wait for EA to fall over.
When that happens, the FIFA and NFL et all will be desperate to try to find another game company to get into a licencing deal with them and EA's IPs will be on auction. Much cheaper to get a chance at some prime IP that way.

So milk. It would be a very different Valve then we've come to know.

If Valve really were to buy EA and still remain true to their business practices, then they'd have to seperate the wheat from the chaff, which probably comes down to firing 80% of EA's staff and assimilating the rest. That would be really bad for EA but really good for Valve. I'm not entirely sure whether or not it would be good for the gamers.

Don't get me wrong I love Valve and while I'm not a fan of EA's business practices I am a fan of there games I want them to keep publishing them whereas if Valve took over too much would change, besides it seems like a good idea because we all think EA just releases the same games and too many of them at that but what if Valve started doing that? It'd be great at first but after Half-Life 19 billion we'd start hating them in the same way we did EA and that simply isn't a good thing, we need EA to direct our anger...

Would not seeing a Dragon Age 3 be such a bad thing? I loved the first one... but its starting to feel like the Fable series... which can only mean its on a downward slope...

That would make me happy.

Buy EA, tear out all the IPs, and give them more worthy homes and love.
That would be pretty cool. I wonder if they would keep any of the IPs for themselves. I would rather see CD Projekt RED buy Bioware though and hire back all of the former employees. Perhaps Valve could sell Bioware to Obsidian.
