No i dont want to know your real birth date, i just keep getting annoyed by those "insert your age here" before you can proceed. do they honestly think that we are gonna go " oh noes, im not old enough to watch this trailer/play this game etc, well i better find something pg 11 rated to waste my time on instead".

dont think so

so i ask, have any of you actually used your real birth date before you actually were old enough to view it? i know i never did

No. It's the Internet. Unless someone wanted to come at my house and check, I said 18 even when I was 13. It's not the case anymore, but I still put a 'whatever' date on videos like 1 Jan 1900.

I guess I'm never bothered to actually look for the proper numbers to insert my birth date and just leave the month and day while putting the last year available.

I usualy put 1/1/1980 it makes me 30 years old since I,m not bothered enough to put 8/31/1993 in the system (technicly I,m still 17 and the trailers require me to be 18 but it doesnt matter that much)

Back when I was too young to view those clips I claimed I was 10 years older, I used my actual date of birth, just 10 years earlier.

I did once, but it's because I had just turned 17, and was trying to access a site for an M-rated game. For those who aren't familiar with the ESRB system, an M rating is 17+, not 18+. Needless to say, I was really confused when I got locked out of the site for being exactly the right age to play the stupid game, and then annoyed as soon as I realized what had happened. If anyone is interested, the game in question was F.E.A.R. Combat, the free multiplayer only version of F.E.A.R..

I think it has something to do about legal issues.
I you are lying about your age, then it is no longer the publishers fault that you watched M-rated content.

Of course not. When I was younger, I lied God knows how many times to get into adultfanfiction.net. Then I pretty soon realised there was nothing there remotely worth reading and went back to my non-age-restricted smut.

I think I lied about my livejournal age first time I used it too, and probably other non-sexual sites. I was using the internet at like eleven or twelve so I had to lie to get into things where you had to get your parents permission if you were under thirteen (like Neopets). Screw that; I aged myself up.

I usually used my parents' birthday, or just my own and rolled the year back enough.

Yeah I've lied on stuff like that. On a side note when it asks for our age on escapist stuff I've always wondered why the thing that needs age verification couldn't just get it from our profile.

It's a legal liability thing. Showing an 18+ vid unrestricted is illegal, but by asking you to enter your age the site clears itself of all legal responsibility. If an underage person then lies about their age the legal blame falls on them for lying, not the site for showing graphic images.

And no, I've never lied on those things. Not because I'm stuck up or holier-than-thou, it's simply because I'm an old b*stard and the age verification stuff didn't start up until I was in my 20's, at which point there was no reason to lie about my age.

I don't want to be arsed with dropdown menus, so I just drop the year down and put 1/1/1977. Close enough (I was born in July).

Yea, of course. There are way too many good games out there that I wasn't considered old enough to play, but I did. In a sense, it made me better (I was always far to mature for my age), but of course when I turned 17 last year, I thought that gave me unrestricted access to any game-related material rated by the ESRB system (where M is 17+). Of course, the fat p***ks who wrote the script thought that means you have to be over 17.

When I lie, I use by birthday/month, followed by my brothers birthyear.

Dude they don't really care about your age. Yep it's true. They just don't want to be held responsible in case you parents find you on red tube and decide to get a few extra bucks by suing whomever is responsible for that site.

They are protected under the "he told us he was old enough" premise.

My birthdays Jan 1st so I only have to change one box anyway.
No point in lying about my age, although I wish I was younger.

when I was younger I would actually put my real birth month and date but never the year.
so I would say may 14 1980 which is just ten years older than I actually am.
but it does not really matter any more.
