Since school is about to start again I wonder, what was your school experience like?

In high school I pretty much didn't learn jack shit. But I passed most of my classes so I can't complain. And I had some pretty cool friends too. It was pretty much smooth sailing all the way through.

Oh boy, high school's a very hazy memory. I remember playing lots of Diablo, and losing my virginity at some point. Everything else sucked.

Oh school days, as I look back on them its a mixture of good times and wanting to chop my own hands off....

Middle School: Fuck middle school. I hated it with a passion, then and now. I had few friends and I never got along with staff(other then two amazing History teachers). The classes were boring, the kids were fucking stupid(even at the time I thought they were retarded) and apparently I couldn't be trusted to walk down a hall alone.

High School: Much better socially, but academics were still a chore. Got into JROTC my Freshman year, and while the program itself was kind of meh, I absolutely loved the people I met there and became commander of the Armed Drill team by the time I was a senior. The classes were generally boring and I did a lot of nothing in them, but some like Physics and History still peaked my interest.

All that said, really fucking glad I'm out, despite the fact it puts distance between me and some brothers.

Middle School was awful, I absolutely hated it. Didn't feel like I fit in, didn't have very many friends, and absolutely hated the classes. There was lots of busywork which bored the hell out of me, and I frequently didn't do my homework because I felt like it was a waste of time. Ended up doing quite well on tests in most of my classes, but my grades were incredibly mediocre because I was lazy about homework.

The thing I remember most was my last year of middle school I was taking a humanities class (basically a single class that taught both history and english in two consecutive periods. Why? I don't know) and I had forgotten to do a large assignment in it, and had a C in the class because of that. It was getting close to graduation, and the principal of the school decided that he wanted two students to speak at graduation, so my teacher gave an extra credit assignment, anyone who submitted a speech got an extra 50 points in class, and anyone whose speech got chosen would got an extra 100 points. I submitted a speech, and it got chosen, and I had to give it in front of 500 people. The teacher never gave me those 100 points and I ended up with a C in the class anyway.

High School was a bit better. I still hated it during my freshman and sophomore years. Ran with a bunch of kids who were complete idiots, and in trying to fit in I acted like a total idiot with them (peer pressure is the shit right?). Finally straightened out in junior and senior year, and actually got to take electives I was interested in and enjoyed. Also ran track and cross country and the exercise gave me a much more positive outlook.

Went to University, and really liked it. Classes were challenging, people generally weren't complete assholes (though some of the professors were), I finally got treated like an adult by the professors rather than like someone who needs his hand held all the time, and best of all there was no bullshit busywork which left me with a lot more free time than I'd ever had before. That, and having fridays off every year for 4 years was fantastic.

Elementary: I can't remember very much. I know I wasn't very popular, what with being the weird fat kid.

Middle School: I absolutely hated it in the beginning. Our middle school merges two elementary schools, so half of my class was entirely new to me. The closest things I had to friends left me in the dust, and I was ridiculed constantly (again, for being chubby and weird). I couldn't even read a book in peace. I tried, and a few people just came over to play keep away with it, ruining the spine in the process.

There's actually one particular incident that still angers me to think about: I was going outside for our fifteen minute recess, and was the last person on my way out, because I was slow to finish packing my things up after class. When I tried to open the door, a large group of people from my class decided to stop whatever they were doing at the time and pin the door shut so I couldn't come out. I pushed, but it eventually got so humiliating that I just went back to the classroom. I told the teacher about what happened and rather than do anything, she had to struggle not to laugh (all of my teachers weren't this terrible, it was just this one in particular).

Thankfully, I started to make some friends around the start of 7th grade, and things generally got better. I was still a bit flabby and was considered to be weird, but I was willing to take what I could get.

High School: I'll be starting my junior year when summer is over, and so far it's been absolutely fucking fantastic. Yes, I'm serious. Things are practically the complete opposite of how they were in middle school. Oddly, I'm one of the more popular people in my school, to people in my class, and the upper / lower classes (I'm still not eager to be chummy with those who tormented me in middle school, but I get along with them well enough. At least now I can tell them to piss off in a myriad of ways disguised as "friendly banter"). I'm actually in good physical condition now, and many of my eccentricities have either mellowed out or are now considered charming. It felt so great when I was finally able to read a book without being harassed. I get along well with all of my teachers, even the principal and phys. ed. teacher, both of whom are known for being hard-asses. I've got plenty of friends now, but thankfully, I've found a small group that I can regard as the truest sort of friends.

As far as grades go, they've always been good. My sophomore year, I managed to pull a 4.0 grade average for all four quarters, after coming so close for years.

Junior school: Incredibly fond memories. I was incredibly enthused every day and genuinely enjoyed studying and communicating with my classmates. Other than that, no particular things stand out.

Middle school: That period was a little bit problematic, mostly because I switched 2 schools on that period. Had to endure some bullying, but nothing serious and I could stand my own ground.

High school: The best and the wildest period! During my final 3 years of school I got my own little company of friends, we hanged out, had fun and we are still in touch after 4 years from graduation. And boy, so much stuff happened. I was class clown, always joking around, but I was always protective of my close friends. Then there was epic class-on-class brawl during our winter soccer game... and then there was graduation... that was fun.

School was pretty Hellish for me, being bullied pretty much throughout my school years because I have always been quiet and introverted, bullying pretty much wreaked my self esteem and caused other problems such as self harm in my late teenage years. It wasn't until I got into college and left most of the people that made my life Hell behind, made some great friends and got my first girlfriend that things got better.

On the other hand, I was pretty good at school, my grades were pretty good (well, everything but maths) and I am still in touch with and hangout every now and then (not so much now I've moved away from the area we both lived in) more than 20 years after I met him. So I suppose one good thing came out of school.

Elementary - No friends, ethnic in a nationalistic area, too smart, got bored, parents divorced so spend most of the years in a depressed haze
Secondary - No friends, ethnic in a nationalistic area, was bored, parents still divorced so spent most of the years in a depressed haze

Didnt do any other schooling, yet now doing better than anyone else I saw at the reunion. And dont have the $100k debt either.

Fuck school; didnt learn anything (socially, factually, emotionally, etc) It did get me out of the house i guess...

Absolutly God awful from my first day at infant school to my last day in the sixth form at grammer school. No real firends, constant bullying, usless teachers.

I am abosulutly convinced that the person who said school days were best days of your life was a British soldier who said it 2nd July 1916.

Same here, minus the bullies all leaving, and adding in dropping out rather than killing myself. High school made me rather suicidal. Only good thing about high school was JROTC, but it wasn't enough.

Got killer calves and thighs from walking the 2.5 miles home every day though. Guess that's something. Used to be able to leg press ~250 lbs. when I was in school. Never did recover my full strength after I broke my leg...

This is actually exactly my experience. Grade 2-7 I was bullied most days and the teachers were beyond stupid.
Grade 10 got a little better since most of my bullies were the year older, but the first year of high school was the year where things finally picked up. My interest in school even picked up there's not a single person from my class that I wouldn't mind meeting again.

School was a pretty terrible experience for me. As far as I am concerned, my life started when I went into 6th form.

In secondary school for example, I had around 50 teachers in the space of 5 years, there was a lecturer who came in drunk to my class in 6th form and in my last year former students came in to the staff car park and bottled a teacher. It was the second worst in it's borough/area, and when I left it got bulldozed to the fucking ground.

Now my RAF application is in jeopardy because of the grades I got in that fucking school.

For me, Primary was terrible. While I was at a good school, the kids were gits and I was ostracized because I wasn't Catholic but at a Catholic school. Not fun.

The first few years of high school were kind of lonely for me. I didn't really make friends, and kind of just hung around the library a lot, just reading in my free time. Then about Year 9 I started making friends who were into the same music as me, and the rest of high school passed pretty well. No great tales of bullying, but nothing massively stood out. The only big events that happened for me were being invited to join the school rugby team and forming my first band.

Since my Sixth Form was an extension of my high school, it turned out great. Really chilled out during free time with a good bunch of friends I'd known for years, the lessons had a much more relaxed attitude thanks to smaller classes and familiarity with teachers, and while the work was tough at the time, it was also really fulfilling.

I've had a similar experience with university. The freedom is brilliant, the lectures and seminars are challenging but relaxed and my new group of friends are great. I've tried to get involved with more social stuff, and while it's not been entirely successful, what has happened has been good, like getting on student TV and Radio with my band. Basically, the older I got, the better my school experience.

I miss the friends and people for most of secondary school, they've all gone off different directions in life and it's rare that I'll meet more than a few. We had some very interesting times in the last couple of years and there's some good memories...although I'm glad it's over.

Sixth form/university is so much better, but my best experience of learning is definitely just doing it on your own with support from either wikipedia or a book. I don't know why our education system doesn't put a lot more emphasis on this style of learning, at least at the higher levels.

FOr me it was pretty slow, pretty boring, pretty uneventful. A few parties, a few fights, but thats about it.

Whenever I get together with my mates, I do look back sometimes and wish I'd done it differently though.

Age 6-12 was great. Everybody in the class were friends.
Age 12-16 was different. Was bullied by some guys in the beginning, but when puberty hit I grew to be tall as a mountain. After I beat up a bully I was never bothered again. Most of us were friends and it was a great time of my life.
Age 16-16 was pretty meh. Started in a new school with a really weird schedual, odd teachers(our Swedish teachers spent the lessons singing opera and just talking to each other while taking notes) and a class full of idiots. Decided to take a sabbathical after a few months and switch schools. Developed social phobia from the isolation which is a problem for me still.
Age 17-19 sucked. Had two friends in the class who helped me get through it. The rest were retards. Often came drunk to school just to get through the day. Still, the school had a kick ass music studio were I spent most of my time. Got really good grades in spite of never doing any studying. Assignments were always done the night before deadline.
Age 19-19 I started a higher learning program, but dropped out after about two months. The subject I chose didn't intrest me at all and they lied on their program just to get people to sign up. I was also the only guy in class, and my group was fucking awful.

When it come to education, both Primary and High schools did do their jobs well considering how much jerks they had in them (it wasn't too many but they were disruptive). The social aspect on the other hand was a different manner.

Since I was one of the few Chinese people attending those schools, I pretty got treated differently and no I don't mean racisim or face descrimation for the most part. I was pretty seen as a special kid who get special treatment/ handicap otherwise I could of pulled a racist card to anyone who offended me.

Granted I didn't realise it all until I got older in High school at which then I became depress by all since all the "friend" I made were pretty much lying to me.

Granted the last half of my time in High School was made worse due to my closet friends pretty much became ahole as they oftern picked on me for my flaws.

Sure my life got way better when I went to Uni (made new genuine friends) but I pretty much hold a grudge toward my past friends from High School (and I refue to befriend anyone from High School on Facebook).

Bearable with the acquisition of a handful of close friends.

Otherwise a complete shitstorm.

I've blocked out most of primary school, but I fucking hate what little I remember of it.

High School, on the other hand, was pretty great all around. (Not quite done yet, but only one semester to go, so I'll call it now.) Got along with most people, made a few good friends, and teachers were pretty cool all round.
