Usually whenever I'm playing games, I don't have much trouble with basic things. That being said, recently I was playing Ico on PS3, and I spent half an hour running around in a room, not knowing what I was supposed to do, before I realized that I was supposed to press circle to pull a lever I'd passed fourteen times.

So, what are some of your dumbest gaming moments?

Paper Mario...

I spent so many coins collecting the Li'l Oinks. I had some rare ones. I loved them.

I saw a gate, so I was like "Hey, I'm gonna go in there and frolic with all my little piggie pig pigs"

Did not realize that opening the gate was the game's mechanic for "release all li'l oinks at once"

I'm sure I've had dumber moments, but that one just sprang to mind.

Most recent was wandering around the forest temple in Ocarina of Time3DS for about a half hour because I was to stupid to realize that I had went in the same door twice.

Approaching the heavily armed military personnel, assuming they were friendly (in STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl). It worked out in the end though, I kited them back to a stalker camp and there was a big gunfight, it ended up with me getting the gear off the military guys and my fallen stalker brethren.

Yeah, I did that too. After I got one rare oink I loved I thought I would go into the pen and just bounce around him in victory. I never opened that pen door again.

As for me, A very simple case of mistaken identity in L4D2. Thought I was a Charger, ready to bash someone in. Turns out I was looking at my teammates health bar cause I was tired and I was a boomer. I'm sure I did something worse then that at some point but can't really remember anything to memorable.

A few occasions in League of Legends come to mimd.

The time when I pulled two level 1 tower dives within 2 minutes... In both Top and Bot lane. Talk about tunnel vision. Though I somehow managed to come out well up on kills not that later on despite my dismal start.

Better nerf Irelia.

Level 1 tower dives are just bad, they will never work, no matter how little health the guy is on. Trust me, I rarely dive anyway unless i'm confident that i'm doing well today and have my Merc Treads (if i'm playing Irelia) because that old trick of running back to your turret at low health then dropping a surprise stun on their face for the turnabout kill does shit all to Irelia.

Oh and setting up my elaborate "instakill the guy who facechecks this bush" strategy with Zyra (who is awesome by the way) once got cut well short by having the entire enemy team facecheck it from the opposite angle I was expecting.

Fuckin' fuck... DX

I once chased Singed. Did not go down well.

So I was playing Skyrim on my first playthrough, and I had just gotten a tour of the College of Winterhold. I was told to report to the Hall of Elements for class, so I jumped into the light fountain in the middle of the courtyard expecting it to be a teleporter like in the Arcane University in Oblivion. I spent like 10 minutes trying to activate it until I realized the massive door behind it.

So I did the Arceus event in Pokemon: Soul Silver.

Basically, you get to choose between a Lvl 1 Dialga, Palkia, or an Origin Forme Giratina.

Bearing in mind that this is the only way to get Origin Giratina in Soul Silver.

And I picked Dialga.

I already had one, too.

On (vanilla) World of Warcraft I once sold a Dark Whelpling (which, for reference, is an EXTREMELY rare pet) for 90g (it was worth about 2000g then and around 5000g now, easily enough to possibly set me up for the rest of the game.)

I have never quite forgiven myself for that one, especially given the bizarre circumstances I acquired said Whelpling in in the first place.

Playing FFXIII, now THAT'S a mistake.
But in all seriousness.
Quite a few years ago, I was big into Wild Arms II.
I had gotten to the part where Ashley had just become a demon (not a spoiler, happens early on).
Now, this all happened in a cutscene, but I hadn't noticed that I could move around again.
So I just sat there, for something around half an hour waiting for the game to continue, worrying that it crashed.
Yeah, not terrible, but I was young at the time, so it's understandable.

I have plenty of dumb moments, particularly in my time playing many MMOs over the years. There is one notable occasion that I will share here:

Back when I first started playing World of Warcraft, in the Burning Crusade era, I created a night elf druid. As I was learning the role of my druid in the world I was given a quest that would teach me how to turn into a sea lion so as to be able to explore the more watery aspects of the world. Part of this quest required that I travel to the Eastern Kingdoms, a continent I had never been to before.

So I took a boat from the very small portion of the world that I knew and arrived in Merenthil Harbor. My destination, Westfall, was still quite a ways south through unknown lands so fearing the beasts that might rend me limb from limb on my journey I decided there was only one course of action: swim.

And swim I did. And swim. And I swam some more. Bluffs, beaches and mountain sides all passed by me. Nearly an hour of constant swimming later I arrived on the shores of Westfall. Now that I was there it only took about a minute to finish the quest and teleport back home. Only later did I realize that I could have completed the whole quest in under ten minutes if I had used the train not to far away.

After that I tended to research my quests a little more carefully.

i had one back when god of war 1 came out. there's a part later in the game in kronos' temple, where you get stuck in a room with water and a statue of...athena if i remember correctly. the hint they give you says that she points to the way out which is straight in the water. now then, in order to read this hint, you pull a switch which raises platforms that you jump across in order to get to her. i was stuck in that room for hours. finally, my grandfather came into my room to see how i was doing since i hadn't left it in a while. when i told him i was stuck there and showed all i could do, he went;"why don't you check under the platforms you raised?"....i think my my dresser still has the marks from my face hitting it repeatedly.

another would be in majoras' mask. the 2nd temple boss ghot. since you have to use he goron mask to beat him, and the punches didn't work, i figured out you need to spin at him with using magic to make the spikes appear out of your body. however, i didn't seem to think that hitting him in the side may be the best way to do so, and repeatedly tried spin dash at him head on....it...it uh...didn't...work out well....not at all....

I just started maybe 2 days ago in WoW, and i was doing Razorfen Kraul with a random group i got. I was around lvl 20 Tauren Shaman. This is the first real MMO i've played, all past ones were either things like the Disney MMOs or Runescape, so i had little idea how compliated stats worked or how skill trees worked.
So we get the first boss down, and a peice of mail armor drops that someone else came into the dungeon for. It had better stats than my armor so i need roll on it and win (As a shaman, you can't use mail armor until you reach lvl 40, I knew this). They start yelling at me about how someone else needed it and i couldnt even use it until lvl 40, so i respond "So i'll use it at lvl 40." They kicked me out of the group obviously.

P.S. This was when Wrath of the Lich King first came out, so there was no trading it to group members 2 hours after looting.

Playing Megaman Legends, I beat the big robot boss controlled by the Bonne family in the construction side of town. Barely survived that encounter...but I managed the win. Anyways, the area is known for mean lil' dogs that come up and tackle you, barking the whole way until they connect with you or you time your kick right and they get a mega-boot to the snout. I ran over and talked to one NPC, but just before I had heard a dog barking.

The conversation had just ended and the dog hit me, killing me in the process.

Restart boss fight.

I now wish to nuke all the dogs in all of the worlds.

Like this, except it was jumping up onto a ledge, and it was in Soul Reaver.
I had to go look up a walkthrough. Now I ALWAYS remember, "when you're out of options, look up." Very useful. But yeah I've had some terrible derps in my gaming life.
