Megaman is a super friendly robot, very protective and powerfull... Link is a corageous hero, that saved the world countless times, Lara Croft is a super smart and friendly person... good wingmen... or wing-girl... and alyx is smart, a good fighter, awesome personnality, and i can definitly count on her has my backup...

Well, the dreams I personally consider nightmares usually involve me catching my an ex-girlfriend cheating on me, or a current girlfriend breaking up with me. In those cases, I don't know of any video game characters I'd want with me. Then again, the character might kill the cheating ex, and then I would have to have an epic battle with the character, turning my nightmare into a pretty awesome dream.

The problem I have when I have "Nightmares" is that they either turn into dreams through the stumbling upon of firearms (HA, looks like the tables have turned mr. psycho with a chainsaw *pulls out colt .45*), and I don't really have emotional nightmares because my mind does not work in that way (I sometimes think I must be a robot or something...)

The other possibility of what happens is that I become concious that I am in fact asleep and having a nightmare, which again completely turns the tables when I realise that I can do whatever I want because it's all in MY head, therefore MY thoughts control everything.

I guess if I was going to choose though (discarding those two possibilities, because if either of those things happen, which often do, then I really don't need anyone) I'd have to choose Sandal from Dragon Age Origins. Why? Because I am really curious as to how he slaughters countless darkspawn all by himself ... Oh, and I may need some enchanting done for some reason.

War from Darksiders. Yeah the whole "we must restore the balance" thing would probably get a little dull, but have you seen the size of his sword? Have you seen the size of him!

Plus he figured out how to kill someone with a portal gun. Shows some damn fine initiative with that, just incase mechanics makes its way into the nightmare.

I'd go with the legendary MacMillan, seeing as my nightmares just kinda flow through random events. Most involve rape though, and he won't let that shit fly.
