Tips for playing Spy:
1. If you're waiting in the set up phase, disguise yourself as a member of your own team. This means you can wander around and see what's happening without letting the enemy know that there's a spy on your tea, and showing them where you are.

2. Learn to take out engineers while they are repairing their sentries and then destroy the sentry. If there's another sentry covering the first, don't even think about it. However, if there's a single sentry you can take it down by backstabbing the engineer and then quickly moving to sap the sentry, going around the sentry as it turns towards you. This is much easier if the sentry is level 1/2, but so long as the sentry is pointing away from the engineer this is quite easy with practice.

3. Don't be afraid to throw finesse out the window. If there's a large number of sentries together, usually accompanied by various dispensers, teleporters and their engineers, disguise yourself as an engineer and leap in, sapping like crazy. If this is done at the same time as soldiers, demoman or heavies attack the defense will crumple. The disguise isn't meant to fool anyone, but it can be suprisingly effective in a scrum; I've seen people fruitlessly hacking at an engineer using his wrench while I've been 5 feet away, still sapping madly.

4. Generally, the 4 best disguises are Demoman, Pyro, Engineer or Sniper. Switch between them frequently so you don't get predictable. Sniper is best as he's slightly faster and due to the general attitude of Snipers you look more normal when you don't speak/don't help/don't contribute to the team in any meaningful way. Sorry guys, but there are a lot of people who play Sniper like this.

PROTECT YOUR GODDAMN MEDICS!

Seriously, I am NOT going to be healing your ass if you just ignore the guy behind you beating my ass!
3) your medic is your biggest Priority to staying alive, if he dies, you shall soon die if faced by more than 2-3 people

4) I shall say it again PROTECT YOUR GOD DAM MEDIC

5)[HEADING=2]THE MEDIC IS YOUR LIFE[/HEADING]

6) [HEADING=1]PROTECT HIM[/HEADING]

7)try spinnign up your minigun before your round a corner
People always run around corners whle being healed and expect the Medic to follow when he's on 50 health. Then they act really suprised when the Medic doesn't follow, even though they are told how much health the Medic has.

I'd also add that it's best to jump around a corner and spin up your minigun simultaneously. This takes the enemy by suprise and gives you a nice big field of fire which makes it harder for them to escape.

Ok here is a list of classes and some of them may have tips that I had conviniently lieing around:

1.) Pyros are fail. Any moron with half a brain can play them. They are the definition of noob. If they use backburner as well then they are an "Uber Noob".
Every class (aside from Spy) can be easily played and still get good results. However, in the right hands every class also has the potential to be incredibly deadly, and that includes the Pyro. There are many good Pyro players out there.

2.) Snipers are a great class. One of the more challenging classes to play. However if they use a Huntsman they rely on pure luck, hence the name lucksman. Learn to get headshots while moving. It is an invaluable asset.
Huntsman Snipers can stay in the middle lines and give their team more assitance with tiems such as Jarate. The normal Sniper usually is stuck in the back away from his teammates. Both types of Sniper are useful

3.) Spys are backstabbers. If they use Dead-ringer or Cloak and Dagger in an arena match they are considered pathetic. Only use the default set up for watches. Use the normal gun as well unless you are excellent on getting headshots.
I've seen spies make effective use of both watches in Arena. It's just a matter of skill.

4.) Medics heal... That is really it. Do not heal the moron, and never go battle medic unless you are the last one standing.
A Medic heals everyone. There's no reason not to heal the weakest player on your team.

5.) Engineers are useful, but are a pussy class. They rely on getting kills from idiots.
Engineers are a support class. They use teleports to aid the team in advancing and provide area denial with sentries. The only pussy Engineers are the ones that sit behind their sentries and do nothing but whack it. When playing as Engineer, you should actively patrol your area and put pressure on any attackers with the shotgun or pistol.

6.) Heavy. Another W+M1 class. Really useful in holding down an enemy position, always look around you and behind you. Spys are your mortal enemy.
If all you is W+M1 as a Heavy, you're going to get slaughtered.

7.) Demoman. The most overpowered and possibly the hardest class to play. You must know what angle to shoot your pills stickys and know when to slash and charge. NOT EASY.
I don't see how the demoman is overpowered. And I'd say Spy is much harder to play as than all of the other classes.

8.) Scouts. They are the bastards. They are very usefull if you are good at them, however if you use the FAN (Force-a-Nature) you will be called a noob until your dieing breath.
Despite the fact that the FaN is just as effective as the Scattergun.

9.) Soldiers. A fun class. Using rockets to blow up anything. Remember to switch to your shotgun when you are out of ammo and getting flanked by a near death enemy.
No complaints here. That's actually good advice.

Here are some other tips for you:

Do not go pyro.
Stop playing pyro.
NEVER PLAY PYRO!
If you use a FAN you might get banned.
If you use a Backburner/Deadringer/Cloakanddagger you might get banned.\\
Nobody bans someone based on the items they use unless they are complete assholes. Pyro is perfectly fine, except for the Backburner because the normal Flamethrower just has to many advantages over it.

(P.S.: No I do not hate pyros it is just a proven fact. I can kill them just fine.)
Yeah I'm calling bullshit on this.

Oh, and does the escapist have a TF2 clan?

There is in fact a TF2 User Group. Team Fortress 2 is unlike most other first person shooters, it's a very difficult game to master and it takes a long time to really get into it, but when you do, it will be immensley fun. Experiment with all of the classes and see which one best suits you best. Soldier and Pyro are the easier classes to play. Stay away from Spy until you get a little better.

A fun but useless tactic:

Flyin' scotsman:
Lay down two stickies on your battlements on 3fort.
Sticky jump to the other side with your melee bottle in hand.
Murdeerdeathkill some snipers.

great generaln advice, if you see a teleporter lvl 1, switch to engie for 10 secs and upgrade it to lvl 3. You will most likely save the life of an eng that is trying to hold his position on the fron lines and will be able to focus on his sentry.

Second golden tip: If you see a sapped teleporter, switch quickly to eng and unsap it. A game winner.

Protect your Medic

Protect your Engineer there lives are in your hands.

If your a heavy don't stand still or your will have hole in your head.

If your a sniper check your back for spy's.

If your a pyro use the normal prime weapon back burner is not worth it.

Find a medic if you use a rockets.

If you are a Demo learn how to aim an arc weapon.

Pretend your a heavy if your a spy no one takes a second look at them.

Very much so [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/The-Escapist-Team-Fortress-2-Group-PC]. Add me on steam (hbrutush114) and I'll get you set up.
Say... Would you mind if I added you too 'cuz I'm still pretty rubbish at the game except from the heavy :)

Don't be the 5th anything on any team.
Don't just run at people as a pyro, use corners to come out and ignite people then run...and laugh when they whine about it.

Look out for flashing bombs that stick to walls.

Also Huntsman is my favourite weapon ever!!!
Then you're a bad player. It's not a matter of opinion, the performance of those weapons can be factually measured. They're objectively useless.

And where the objectiveness?
If I told you I got 24 kills in one life with the Huntsman would hat change your mind?

In general there is no shame in rage quitting, take a break and think about why you are failing and how maybe you should improve your strategy. Sometimes just taking a break to make a sandvich and thinking about a game you will find you are better when you go back in.

Any specific questions go here:

http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Main_Page

I also highly suggest you search youtube for things like "TF2 How to play..." for different classes like "TF2 how the play pyro"

Class specific tips:

Medic = HEAL EVERYONE YOU SEE. I cannot emphasise this enough, do not just keep healing the same person as that is the worst noob tactic. Only keep healing someone who is in a head on assault or if no one else is around.
Always heal those who are injured, and even heal those who are uninjured as well (buff up their health up to 150%) as if they get a kill while they are over-healed from your gun or kill as you are healing them then you get a point. Easiest points in the game. My highest ever round score has been with a medic just keeping everyone on my team buffed to 150%. Medic is absolutely vital on 2Fort as there are so few health-packs.
The team with the most medics almost always wins. A heavy+medic rush is almost unstoppable. If your team is failing, turn to medic class and buff everyone.

Soldier = Rocket jump out of danger and never underestimate splash damage. I repeat NEVER underestimate splash damage. So get behind a corner and AIM FOR THE GROUND WHERE THEY ARE STANDING. You can't miss the ground. Do NOT try to hit them directly with the rocket unless you are VERY good, aim near their feet. Elevated positions FTW.

Scout = never stop moving. ever. Also, you will be spending half your time inflicting a bit of damage then running away to get a health pack, there is no shame in running away.

Pyro = Don't just run forward and flame... run up to them then strafe and flame, far more effective. Also, you are NOT an assault class (though technically you are) stay at your base and be defensive, use your alt fire to blast enemies back, and flame EVERYONE on your team as a "spy checker" enemy spies who disguise as your side will catch fire, there is no friendly fire in TF2, also if you can't walk through a team-mate, then they are an enemy spy gusguised as on of your team, same if they have the same name as you.
Overall, stick yo your engie like glue

Heavy = don't leave your base without a medic, you will get murdered as everyone will shoot at you and you can't dodge crap. 300hp will get whittled away so quick it won't even be funy. Till you find a medic, find a health + ammo spawn point and plant your ass there as an improvised sentry gun.

Demoman = hardest class yet also considered by the many to be the most over-powered. For beginners, spam grenades in general enemy location and coat defending positions (like CPs) with sticky bombs.
As a side not, grenades will only detonate on contact with the enemy if they DON'T first bounce off a surface. You should also get learning to "airburst" stickies. Stickies are also sometimes called "pipes" as in pipe bombs as they are effectively pipe bombs that stick to any surface.

Spy = for experienced players only. But if your team is being dominated it is a good time to learn. Very subtle class, depends on you knowing how all the other classes work VERY well.

Sniper = another subtle class, better suited if you have learnt how the other classes move to predict their movements.

Engineer = For a noob, my suggestion is to find another engineer (an experienced one) on your team and help him in building everything they make, two engies hammering on the same structure builds/upgrades it at twice the speed as a lone engineer. Also build a dispenser if you ever have any spare metal and UPGRADE IT TO LEVEL 3, when? AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. From then on as a noob I suggest you build a sentry gun where if will cover your friend's sentry gun, observe what they do and learn.
Listen to your team, if they want a teleporter, put it up. If they want a dispenser, it's probably a good idea.

Probably using my Christmas money for this, along with Machinarium. Played TF2 on Xbox, but doesn't seem to be anywhere near as good. So are TF2 and Machinarium on PC worth it?

1/9 of those sections was actually useful.
You make the note of saying that you'll be called a noob if you happen to stray outside the lines of what you recommend.

I have a question for you: Who the fuck cares?

If I'm having fun and going well, and somebody has a problem with it (Assuming that it's completely legitimate/does not involve cheating, hacking, etc.) then they can go to hell.

I play a Pyro, and I play it quite well. (Not to toot my own horn.) Hell, I've been complimented by team mates for straying from the usual W + M1 style and actually flanking and utilizing strategic actions.
[sub]You know, the entire point of the Pyro class...[/sub]

My advice? Have fun. Don't listen to the naysayers who are looking to make the experience worse for you.
